It's great to see the young guns out there, my lad went to every Cala Gran with me ! and he's now 27 a Well thought of DJ on the scene (Blackpool Tower,Jersey, Shap weekenders) with a great Soul collection. So there is a place for them if we give them a chance. So well said M BARRETT

Can remember Richard Searling playing Flashback on Jazz (Smooth) fm on Sunday lunchtime shows! And always having to talk or put jingle on to stop bootleggers. Like you ! I think it was a thumping northern track that you just don't here now. Rod

The other day whilst looking for a certain record out of my collection, I came across The Wrong Side of Town by The Four Vandals ( Steve Brookstein). I had bought it a few years ago when it was one of the most requested records played out on the scene. I put it on my turntable and thought to myself, you know what, this ain't a bad record. I think over the years we have all read of the deception by Ian Levine, but I do think that now is the time to give it a spin again.what do you think( and no swearing ) Rod

Brenda Holloway performed at the Togetherness Weekend at the Cala Gran in September 1998, She still had the voice and like you say! What a stunner. Reconsider got to be one of the best Unissued Motown records at that time. Rod Clegg

I was at CHRIS GILBOYS Funeral on Thursday at Southport Crematorium. I was so proud to be part of The Soul Scene that showed so much RESPECT, PRIDE AND FRIENDSHIP to Carol and her Family. It was truly a fantastic send off and a day I'll aways remember. It was a privilege to have been called friends of Chris. Well done everyone. Rod & Sue And Danny Clegg.

Chris Gilboy's funeral will held on Thursday, 6th February at 3.20pm at Southport Crematorium, which is on the Southport to Ormskirk road. Then on to the Prince of Wales Hotel for a farewell gathering. Carol wishes to thank all their friends on the Soul Scene for their kind words and thoughts x. Rod Clegg

Thanks Kev, Think you've said what I was going to say, only one thing to add, I was with Chris and Carol on the coach to Blackburn last night and can only say what a great time we had. Could not believe when I heard this morning that he had passed away. Chris will always be remembered as a true Soulie! He loved the music and was such a happy and friendly person. He worked so hard to provide for his family and Carol has lost her true soulmate. A wonderful husband, father, grandfather and mate! Our thoughts are with Carol and her family at this sad time. God, Who could forget the great Barbara Lynn at the 1999 Togetherness Weekender, Dave Godin faverette female singer"who he presented a lifetime Achievment award to: ( I think ? Or was it the other way round ) also the is a Barbara Lynn live at Cala Gran CD that was released some time after. To see Barbara strutting her guitar to some of them class tunes was just BRILL ! and I've got to give a shout to Snake Davis and the Suspicions for there excellent backing as always. Rod Clegg

I saw Marvin Gaye/Edwin Starr on that tour, Southport theatre in early 80s. Edwin was warm up! He did hell of a job with Soulies dancing in the Aisle, did all his top numbers: Double O Soul/Back street/SOS/War/Etc. He was brilliant. Marvin Gaye came on and you could have heard a pin drop.He played a great set, so laid back but a polished performance ,but only a bit disappointed he didn't do his 60s stuff. It Was great to see two Motown Soul Legends in my home town in an intimate venue. they where BRILL. Rod.

Who could ever forget Richard Searling's 50th bash at the Ritz Manchester, The Originals. Marvin Gaye's favourite group and I think they Where Richards as well. It wasn't too long after that trip that Freddie Gorman passed away, I think Freddie's daughter sang with the group that night. One word, Brilliant. Suspicion has to be in everyone's top 20. that wasn't ten years ago was it ? Better ask Richard" Rod
