  1. TBF I didn't say I had one. I have an original FWIW.
  2. Absolutely cracking alldayer, best we've been to in decades! Do yourself a favour -this is truly worth the trip -however far to whack in your diary.
  3. Really high quality event from start to finish. Highly recommended and a really excellent across the board (not just in name but in delivery too!) rare & northern soul. Hats off to Ruth for the hard work that's gone into this. A 2 hours drive each way for us -but we'll be back -for definite!
  4. None bad -to be fair I really didn't do many after the 80's anyway. One very memorable one that still scares the heck out of me was NYE Stoke. Felt fine until I got back to my mates (who was giving me a lift the 4 hours south) and realised when I got in my car I felt a bit odd (i.e. whoozy/pissed). It certainly wasn't the booze as after the pre drinks in 'spoons I'd stuck to red bull and only had a few of them & water until the last song and farewells. I managed to get to my home in one piece, felt a bit odd/slightly sick all day, so having a shift the next day (Railway) I tried to sleep it off. Lo & behold I got half way to work and realised I'd better ring in 'sick' as I still felt pissed (Rail limit was instant sack at 1/2 the DD limit)! This was at least 18 hours after the event and over 24 since my last alcoholic drink so there is no way I'd have been OTT. Spiked drink? I bloody well think so. No wonder the kids hang onto theirs for grim death nowadays,
  5. Yup, the Suncut one released in 2018 is a legit re-issue.
  6. intercity soul club was Yate. I bumped into a chap from Cambridgeshire up in Blackburn (selling patches funnily enough) recently who showed me photos of his personal very large patch collection from back in the day. He had several ICSC ones which I had never seen before.
  7. The first time I saw these sorts of 'dance offs' we were all much younger & it was all regarded as a bit of fun, nothing more. Unfortunately some people/promotors/ & yes -organisations making a few quid off the scene yet again, are making & taking it all far too seriously nowadays. Not being much of a dancer myself I really appreciate seeing someone who can dance well, fluidly and perhaps throw in the odd trick in the right place of a song -it shows a depth of knowledge in the tune which I can respect as much as technical prowess. In saying that I've seen people who no one would ever call a 'great dancer' on the floor immersed in a song with such emotion in their faces, close to tears sometimes - now they truly would win any competition hands down -no argument if I was judging it!

  9. Pretty lazy article really. Not very well researched -and it shows. If it was about the youth 'spin off' of NS then it didn't mention anyone outside of London, if it was London-centric but 'all ages' it missed out at least one major long running club and if was supposed to be country wide 'any ages' it missed dozens of easily found venues. It's laughable to pronounce anything connected with NS can not be retro -it's a scene largely built on releases 1965-1975 ffs. Like most other NS media stories -it had a tiny crumb of accuracy wrapped up in two tons of shite.
  10. Exactly what I thought too. I'm pleased he was given some sort of comeuppance, but as you say he could still be 'trading' had he been sensible, since he knew the records were dodgy from the outset. I'm actually disappointed that he was only fined about 1/3rd of what he took people for and would guess that's pretty much his profit margin, so all that would say to me if I were that way inclined is: even if I get caught I'll end up with a slap on the wrist, 4 months suspended is hardly a disincentive either for a scam that can clearly net millions if carried out sensibly.
  11. Now I remember: Walls club Gloucester alldayers allow overnight camping too. I think also Lawns Club Taunton allows it (but it'd be best to contact the organisers Drew & Trevor 1st as the car park there for the club is very small.
  12. West Wilts soul club (Trowbridge, Wiltshire) has a large secure carpark which is camper van friendly -in the warmer months we have quite a few overnighters in camper vans.
  13. https://gofund.me/7b60ace8 Mick H has set up a crowdfund to raise £10k as a reward for successful retrieval of the discs. Great idea Mick.
  14. Absolute scum. Stolen after the NOTTINGHAM Alldayer (Rose & Crown) Yesterday Sunday 26th February. Photo (colourised by Tom Romark & from Teds own doorbell camera) attached of one of the suspects. Obviously anyone with any suspicion who this person might be should contact the rozzers or Ted.

  19. A great musical & civil rights pioneer. RIP. Mr STax
  20. Nice young lady, often see her at SW events including our own. Great dancer.
  21. I think we did take him for granted. Edwin seemed such a workaholic it became a bit 'fashionable' to groan and say 'not Edwin again' when he performed at a scooter rally. To be fair -we all still dutifully rocked up and went to see him -and always had a great time. Very much unlike so many old original acts who could be pitifully dire, Edwin always made an effort -no matter how small the crowd. In some ways, the smaller the crowd the more intimate it became. My favourite memory goes back to a local festival in 2002 and a 'phone call from a mate 'Edwin Starrs playing down the park tonight' -after checking we found out it was indeed true and trooped down there with around 30 or 40 local soulies/scooterists. By crikey, I can feel my neck tingling now -a warm summers evening and a couple of lame support acts despatched with, we'd managed to get into the front rows at this point and when the man himself came on we were shouting out all sorts of stuff and he came to the front of the stage with a wide smile and announced 'soulies and scooterboys here!' Local press reported there were 20,000 people there that night -I think that's about 10 x what was in the park, but for us in that front row or so it was Edwin and us, no one else. What a great night. He'd still be gigging now if he hadn't gone far too soon.
  22. You do hear RLSD and similar at some south west events but only very, very occasionally. I don't think I've heard it played out this year yet. It does tend to be those events that tread a fine line (whether by design or in error) margining into handbaggers territory to be fair. As Russ says, it was very popular indeed in the South in the 80's a real scooter boy compilation anthem in fact. I don't have it and wouldn't play it, there's plenty of overplayed but still genuine soul to keep those type of audiences happy without having to merge into pop.
  23. Definitely a 'scooterist soul' record. Nothing wrong with that -and it's favourite of mine along with the normal culprits like 'love really hurts etc. We had some new faces at west wilts Saturday night, and requests came in, which all of the residents had lurking in our 2nd or 3rd boxes at home, but which we never get any call for and so we didn't have. predictably: the snake, footsie, red light. I actually offered to play Greg Perry/Jeff Perry, but that wasn't good enough. Apparently we were all only playing 'underplayed & mega rare' stuff no-one knows! Apart from the 60+ people on the dance floor for 5 hours that is! Frankly 99% I hear the phrase 'underplayed' as some sort of critique it's always from someone that never goes anywhere -it ain't underplayed mate -it's underheard -by you!
  24. Maybe it's just my interpretation, but whenever I see that I read: non OV handbaggers 'do'. I'm sure some must be great nights with varied music but of those we've heard of they've not been my cuppa for sure.
  25. It's an odd thing grading and since I've only really collected seriously since 2020 it's also been a steep learning curve. Those dealers who I can rely on to supply decent properly graded records in a timely fashion, packed properly and at a fair price get my repeat, repeat & repeat again business -they know who they are! I'd probably say JM and silver fox are at the very top of my 'sigh of relief' score board when I see they have what I want. They won't be the cheapest, but they'll tick every other box. NB: I'm ignoring the complaint within this thread as I have nothing to add or comment on it apart from to say the thread asked about JM grading and these are my views.
