John (TNT)Grant....... no less (due to his love of pyrotechnics) was the main man for a period time last I heard he lived in a lighthouse!

Box number 01620 arrived purchased from Amazon £38 all present most play well a few play less well but no jumps even though none of them lay flat on a standard SL1210 platter matt, also there appears to be a greasy residue on certain sides. In addition to the above some appear off center when playing (or spindle hole is over size) - this along with the warp could cause tracking error( skipping) if the arm is not correctly set up Oh yes! and my box was not sealed sounds like last minute quality control ? Overall I'd rate the package 7/10 Richards sleeve notes are in depth and detailed 10/10 Triode

New 7" Single - Melvin Davis (Detroit Soul) Gure Gauza Records
Triode replied to a topic in Record Sales
Great recording from Mr Davies ....tried to purchase a copy it says sold out! On there website? -
MJC aka Martin Christie what a rogue remember him doing a hour spot at the Carousel using "One Bootleg L.P." Trying to chat over mike while flipping the album and randomly dropping the stylus mid track with the volume full on. Also recall him paying me for a spot with a bag full of 2 pence pieces! of course it was well short but he had disappeared by then..... God help you if he was your Barrister? Triode

What exactly is the point you are trying to make in that last line?......or was it just a joke...Ah ah I feel that somebody of Van McCoy's "genius" deserves more respect from folk on a site like this & in any case who really cares about his sexuality? Triode

'www.gzvinyl.com' !!! So they were manufactured in the Czech Repulic this company is known for its poor quality control and also for doing work for Universal .......... Triode
-
What with records skipping, duplicate copies and missing discs Universal obviously have pretty poor Quality Control considering only 2000/2200 units were manufactured! I doubt EMI would have made errors like this - still I guess we are fortunate they have even considered pressing them on Vinyl in 2013,

I guess it's an "age" thing really when you are receptive to new interesting things ie. music, fashion, girls and clubs and you are also looking for your own identity, For me it was initially seeing incredible dancers and thinking bloody hell wish I could do that ( never could!) This led to listening to more and more of the music, for years only tried and tested oldies would do eventually attending a few of the monthly oldies allnighters and progressing to more upfront and more recent releases..... When the collecting records thing gets you that's it nothing else compares your a "lifer" you can recall producers names and release dates but forget birthdays and anniversaries !!! Great post Barry reflects your taste and passion and certainly got me thinking! PS I also love the Chris Bartley/Van McCoy Acetate in fact just about anything by the man... Triode

Anything else known about the "Mandingo" Four Tracks - love the record - both sides! Any connection with Four Voices or is that a myth.....

Has Sandy Golden On Masterpiece Been Booted?
Triode replied to Col Wolfe's topic in Look At Your Box
It must have been mastered at Artisan (on the west coast) due to matrix but it's also possible it was then sent for pressing just about anywhere, maybe a budget pressing plant hence S.S. using the company as well. I don't recall any of the previously mentioned boots with the same typeface having any matrix stamp..... Triode -
I would really like to hear "Since there's no doubt" is it available in any form? Triode

-
Hi Lorraine, Thank you so much for your reply, below is a link to YouTube featuring the B side "say that you love me boy" only available on the rare stock copy, DJ/Promo copies are double A sides featuring " After you give your all " these appear more common but this is still a great side My data states a release date of July 1975 both sides are "Just Productions" It sounds earlier than 1975 to me? And I cannot find any other prodigal/Motown releases by them - I hope you like it Lorraine it's my preferred side! Kind Regards Triode https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zdzlKX3mX6g&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DzdzlKX3mX6g

Hi Lorraine, Could you shed any light on a group called Softouch who recorded for Prodigal? It sounds like at least 2 female lead vocals? Is one of them you by any chance sorry if this question has already been asked it's just I was listening to this record earlier this evening I presume this was after the pied piper project probably 1970? I guess. Thank you once again for your continued knowledge and patience on the forum it is appreciated. Kind regards Triode

Very good and worth watching, Interesting how all those featured are so complementary about the U.K. and European fans. According to those interviewed this would eventually lead to the demise of Stax when often little known singers and musicians returned home demanding super star salaries similar to Otis who was already earning big bucks.
