  1. Still much better than the usual programs though. Agreed. Anything's better than the dreaded Jeremy Vine show which usually occupies the same slot. Radcliffe and Maconie on 6 Music are a reasonable alternative to that and Stuart sometimes manages to play a Northern track or two.
  2. Mine was yellow (mid '76?). Don't know the number as it's in a frame with a few others including my Mrs' from Cleethorpes and mine from Leeds Central which I got Martha Reeves to sign when she appeared at Batley Variety Club (or was it Frontier by then?) on 1/3/77.
  3. First hour not too bad - Laura Lee, Jackie Ross, Jamo Thomas and the Staple Singers - can't remember when I last heard these on radio 2, if ever!
  4. Midday New Year's Day, Sharleen Spiteri shares her passion for Northern Soul for 2 hours. Didn't know she had a passion for NS! More celebrity bandwagon-jumping perhaps? Prepare yourselves for The Snake, Frank Wilson and the usual predictable stuff (or am just too cynical!)
  5. Agreed Paul R. One of my favourites that, like so many great oldies, hardly gets played out these days.
  6. Thanks for the replies. Just bought the demo but wanted to make sure it is legit. Never seen an issue.
  7. Was this ever booted? If so, what are the tell-tale signs?
  8. Need 2 tickets for the all Dayer at Wakefield Unity Hall on Saturday 29 November. Please pm me if you have any available. Cheers. Now sorted, thanks.
  9. Surprised no-one's mentioned Right On - Al deLory or They'll be Coming - Sam Ambrose. Both big in their day.
  10. Here are few that I put in a frame years ago. Two from the Four Seasons in Scarborough in 76 and 77 and a sticker from a Cleethorpes soul marathon in Jan 76 that my Mrs went to (before I knew her!).
  11. Understand that the Ritz has been sold and that the owner, Alan, will be closing the doors for the last time this Sunday. I've heard that the new owners will be putting on more events and bands but not sure what this means for the monthly soul nights and the "repossessed" night. Better go to the mini all Dayer on Sunday in case it's the last time we can! Anyone have any more information?
  12. Very sad. I didn't know him well but he was a gentle, quiet man and will be missed.
  13. We saw the Halifax show last Sunday and really enjoyed it. Best acts for me were Dennis Edwards and the Temptations review - Dennis can still belt out a song and did a great duet of Don't Look Any Further with Louise, one of the backing singers - and Gwen Dickey - what a voice! Mrs Dazzler had a tear in her eye when Gwen sang Wishing on a Star. When Eddie Holman sang Hey There Lonely Girl it was so true to the original (including all the high notes) that I could have sworn he was miming. Sheila Ferguson was energetic and very polished and professional but for me not particularly soulful. It was good to see Little Anthony but a pity he did only two numbers. Most disappointing for me were Ce Ce Peniston and Jodi Whatley (who sounded like Janet Jackson (not that that's a bad thing)) and Candi Staton. Overall a good show - even David Gest was amusing at times!
  14. Oops! What an idiot - just noticed Mick Howard's post earlier on the forum so ignore my previous post!
  15. Interesting documentary on BBC 4 right now about the rise and fall of Detroit. Not much about music yet but I guess they will mention Motown at some point. Worth catching on I-player if you can't watch it tonight.
