  1. What an awesome piece of investigative journalism. So in-depth and informative. Jordan Wilson take a bow. Your desire and enthusiasm for rare soul, and, to attain as much knowledge as possible, has just gone to another level. Having been around Jordan for many years, it quickly became apparent to me, that him owning the record, didn't quench his thirst. He also has a huge desire to know about the artist, writer, producer, label, pressing plant, recording studio etc. The amount of dead ends, hurdles, brick walls etc he comes up against, never saps his stamina, it's one step back and two forward to Jordan, confident that he will eventually find a route, through the branches in the big soul family tree. High class information which can now be added to previous historic data, that is now a part of Soul folklore.
  2. Hiya Chalky, Mona came 2nd in the 78 final. I remember him going every week in the run up to the anniversary, getting through the heats each week. People like Gray Weaver, Rob Salway etc will confirm this. Best person to ask, if you could get in touch with him, would be Gethro. They were best mates at the time, Knocker Mona's girlfriend at the time was Lisa Bradbury (Notts). She is on Facebook and will confirm it for you
  3. He's not a good business man then, he could have bought it for half the amount he paid
  4. But why buy it and then want to sell it so quickly ? Sounds more like an ego trip to me. If he had offered £50,000 for it, am sure the owner would have parted with it, doubling his money. Or was that another ego trip, look at me I've got £100 grand ? The scene's gone mad, fakes and ego's in your face everywhere
  5. Try my mate Tony Clarke in Nottingham, he may be tempted to cash in
  6. Save yourself a lot of money, as well as the Barbara Banks, I also have another version by the Royalettes. I much prefer this version which goes for about 10% of the price of a Barbara Banks.
  7. My Dentist is black, but I've yet to hear him sing !
  8. You lot are not paying close attention. It sold for £5018, see Zanetti's post above
  9. I thought exactly the same immediately after I first read it
  10. Its a reissue my friend, but thanks for the interest
  11. That's such sad news. Although quite a few years older than me, I was introduced to Swoz at the Casino about 1980 by my best mate Mark Mahony (Mona), who was also big mates with another Wolverhampton legend Gethro. The last time I seen Swoz and had a chat to him would be around 6yrs ago at a Twisted Wheel Sunday Afternoon session. A lovely bloke Swoz, who always had time for everyone, and, always shared his knowledge of vinyl whenever asked. RIP Swoz, Knocker
  12. Tears of joy - Ray Merrill UK Jay Boy no.22 Tel. 07811 205133
  13. Gray, Gaz you have never advertised the Grovenor as 100 mph solid Oldies, its always been advertised as 100% solid Oldies, so I don't know why you are apologising to people, they are obviously not reading the flyers correctly, Knocker
  14. Hiya Chalke, it was his eyes that made him look evil. In reality, he was a pussy, all mouth. He had the funniest of laughs though, if you heard him laughing, you'd start laughing yourself. I remember him playing football for Holmewood, he got a game when they was short. He volleyed a ball into this kids face and shouted "Rioch", could be so funny at times
  15. Hiya Sammy, I was at the 100 Club niter, London about a year ago, also in that night was Johnny Wright, Maria Bowdler, Sue Morris, Sue Tilley, Denise Power, Wack and wife and Gary Churm (Mansfield)
  16. Sammy, the Right Track Soul Club, Grass Moor, was Brit, Gray W and myself. It was named RTSC cos that was Brits favourite record (Billy Butler)
  17. Hiya Chalky, Beetle, Rat real name Philip Deakin, passed away about 6yrs ago. His older brother Dabber is still knocking about. Hiya Sammy, that's not me in the photo, looks more like Johnny Green to me. Hope everyone is healthy, Knocker
  18. Another NS legend that will be sadly missed. When the camera came out, Sue took photos of everyone, whether she knew them or not. She captured the whole event. Will never forget her dancing at Heywood Civic, where the stage ran down the wing and not behind the goals. About 50m each way, or Heywood to Rochdale and back again ! RIP Sue x
  19. They was all fed with tunes mate, mainly by one man, arise Sir John Anderson. The all time no. 1 single contributor to the NS scene
  20. What a lovely story. Its testament to the people and music of our scene, always trouble free and so welcoming, sharing our love of the music. To the people involved, his carer, wow what a guy, Karen n Jason, so kind and very inspirational, Richard Searling, always had time for everyone and you could see he was very moved, and finally the Cobbler (Bobby Bland ?) who gave Anthony some top shoes for his future on the dance floor. Will look forward to meeting Anthony at some point. Stay Soulful, Knocker x
  21. My best mate, Mark Mahony came 2nd in the 1978 final. He was better known to many as "Mona" and he was from Chesterfield.
