  1. Or try Really Useful box company : do a 9ltr box which is ideal , holds about 100 plus 45's stack nicely. Can get them in Maplins if you have one nearby.
  2. Also includes great take on I Only Have Eyes For You that I heard played out years ago by Billy Davidson and it smacked me in the chops and has stuck ever since
  3. Copies of Shades Of Soul will probably be quite invaluable to this project as they include: venue reviews sales lists record reviews readers top 10's That fanzine to me was wonderful, I learnt and discovered so much from reading such as Eddie Hubbards reviews of 45's hardly any of which I knew and would probably never of heard out until several years later at such venues say as Thorne. I never went to Wigan so can't comment on that period but during through the 80's and early 90's it struck me, (rightly or wrongly) that a whole rich seam of quality records were finding their way out of collections and bedrooms and into venues and onto dance floors that previously may not have done. Perhaps everyone feels that about a specific given time and I think that's great. Interesting stuff anyway, good luck with it. Setting your parameters, as has has been mentioned, will be a task in itself I think !
  4. Mis-behaving now : I'll try again
  5. Smokey Robinson: Tears of a Clown For whatever reason it maybe over looked or under rated but it's pure class
  6. Did it only come out on a cd ? Never knew this - like it. *reaches for 'wants book' * thanks.
  7. Excellent 12 that is - always really rated it.
  8. Sitting Around My Table : good 45 still dig it out now and again ,his best - not sure an album ever came out despite it being cited on the label. i have got some Jay Strongman shirts from Rok a Cha - I think that was his anyway. RV little label collection - I remember him playing Linda Tillery Secrets, Perry Sisters Maybe Tomorrow,Thomas & Taylor before it got UK release......happy daze !
  9. Here we are- found a fair few old lists rr379 Jeff Floyd 4.00
  10. We may be into 'new thread' territory now?
  11. Dug out a flyer dec 84
  12. Well I just nipped up the loft - not sure Jeff Floyd is on any I have but here you go : who mentioned a time machine ? marks are from the time ; mid / late 80's
  13. This part of the scene does need documenting really ? I agree.
  14. Great read - full of "blimey how about that " moments
  15. Sidney Jo Qualls- I Dont Do This link failed !
  16. Spot on Jim I reckon, ......and he played it out first time at Shotts as mentioned in front page article. Or certainly first niter spin.
  17. I have not been to Detroit so its interesting to hear a take on things from those that have. I find the doc' quite optimistic despite the extreme economic hardship that has hit the City, the Youthville piece with Mike Huckaby helping the youngsters is great I thought and I'm really pleased the words 'soul' and 'passion' are in there as personally I think the soul of the city still permeates the music. Last year Robert Hood released the third part of a Detroit Trilogy, a 3 x LP set that is utterly tremendous, not everyones cup of tea I appreciate but in my opinion great stuff and keeping music in Detroit progressive and alive. Just my thoughts Neil
  18. don't think has been posted up before. Really good 20 mins or so, thought it might be of interest. Hopefully it sits ok in 'all about the soul' Neil
  19. theres a whole thread there ...(so why write it in this thread I hear you say) I especially recall ''Tommo Drops The Bombo'' and a letter in which I think it was Ion likened people - maybe himself or Pete Crampton to Zeus or some other mythological god or character. I could go 'up the cupboard' and check but i'll leave that for now Many of the letters were definitely written first thing on a Saturday or Sunday morning after long night, great stuff. As for OVO I think its one of the better abbreviations that social media has delivered to us. IMHO !
  20. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Chitlin-Circuit-Road-Rock-Roll/dp/0393342948/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1356867807&sr=1-1 I fact here we are,
  21. Just reaching the final chapter of The Chitlin' CiIrcuit and the road to Rock n Roll by Preston Lauterbach It's a bloody good book and I would heartily recommend it to anyone on here, probably been mentioned before but even so it's worth another plug I say. Some great tales of the Chitlin Circuit of the Southern States some tragic some bizarre but a great history of development of black music in the 30's, 40's and beyond and further beyond legacy wise.... I think it was only published in the US but I guess available via Amazon as the Mrs got me it for me birthday last September. All the best Neil
  22. the recent Numero Group reissue of WW Telling The Truth LP is great stuff. As ever well packaged with great sleeve notes etc. The original lp carries the written WARNING: This is not a disco record It's designed for ADULTS of the world TEENAGERS this album may be too lyrically heavy for you, especially if you're into fast music.
