Clocks go forward - The Missing Set Playlist!
- Your Ten Top P.I.R. favorite titles...?
My favourite ever* double sided 7” comes courtesy of TSOP (* I reserve the right to change my mind on a whim but maybe won’t on this one) Happy ‘bout the whole thing / Touch My Life. Dee Dee Sharp The output is so classy that whatever you play or hear can just fly straight into any top x list there and then. I played Bunny Sigler Keep Smilin’ the other week and was just so taken by it - more so than ever ! Also recently whilst on a jazzy voyage : Dexter Wansell First Light of Morning ; Monk Montgomery Reality both just smacked me about the chops while revisiting the 14 LP street sounds box that came out in 1986. Great that 32 years on it still brings joy and surprises. Great Stuff- 70's of all sorts: Northern, XO, Funky Vibes, Sweet ...
Sent you a pm youth !- Toronto visit!
Toronto is a great City to visit ; take a walk along Queen Street ; Koppels shop there then Cosmos further out of town - ain't gonna be full of bargains but good browsing. Few more stores in and around town too I seem to recall. neil- Northern SOUL BO-LL-OX...!!
I love the descriptions / blurb "sounds great today" '"Could go big with a few spins" my favourite possibly "getting spins " or "picking up plays" as mentioned already ...."under the radar" always a good one. "One for the more discerning dj" been a few masters of the art over the years Sometimes require a pinch of salt but long may it continue I say 👍- House of Broken Hearts by E. Mark Windle (book) - Hardcover

Roisin Murphy : Jealousy (disco mix : Crosstown Rebels 12) stormer !- Shades Of Soul Issue 3 (December 1984)
Blimey I'd not thought about it like that with the sound files etc : Derek's thoughts is a good idea as well. I was just thinking about a book !- Shades Of Soul Issue 3 (December 1984)
if the run of Shades Of Soul issues were bound together in I don't know maybe something like a book with a jacket it would fill a huge void in the documented history of the, and I hate this phrase but here it is 'UK Northern Soul' scene. I'm sure that someone on here was going to start such a project to write about the period (can't recall specific dares but starts approx mid 80's) , I don't think there's any need it's all here. you could add in Blackbeat too and that would pretty much cover it for that period in time. Just a thought really. Not a clue how you would go about this Could SS collectively fund it if nobody wants to take it on (with necessary permissions)out in time for Christmas !! I guess Derek and Steve have some copyright type control: so permissions would be required as appropriate. Be a bloody good read even as it would for many of us for the umpteenth time like a diary almost. like I say, just a thought. Apols it it's been floated before,- World's Wealthiest Dj's
Mind you I think Pete Tong seems like a decent bloke. i reckon any of us would quite fancy the curve they've been on !!- World's Wealthiest Dj's

Dropped you a pm : thanks- Cheap Records To Start Out A Collection?
I would say keep your eyes peeled for soul packs ; There are some listed on here now with contents named that you can check out via you tube etc. and they are hellish value. Anglo American do some too, 100 count can't remember price but worth a punt. Anything you think is crap put in your top cupboard and I promise over the following years you will find some gems when you return to them. Nothing like getting a box of records to sort through when you don't know it's contents.- Er Youth..... Rob Marriott ... Says Get This On Youth
Nowthen youth have we just publicly uncovered That Funky Kid ?? Good to catch up with ya at the weekend : was thinking after we spoke about it that Mansfield Swann niters don't get the nods deserved. Neil- Er Youth..... Rob Marriott ... Says Get This On Youth
And remember it was Lord Marriott that gave That Funky Kid the name That Funky Kid- Girlfriend Wanted Must Be Into Northern Soul
Cue a hot box discussion.- Owls Effort No1
Those booklets with tiny print were brilliant : full of bargains but full of info too, just used to go through them over and over again. Meticulous rules about ordering it was a relief to get your records in the post not your cheque back. Slightly off topic but imagine going back to sending cheques and ' May take up to two weeks to clear' maybe even 28 days ! What with paypal etc you can get your vinyl now within a day or two.- Cheap As Chips
