  4. THE ROOM AT THE TOP, MANCHESTER Nobody can deny that the soul scene is having a huge resurgence amongst the younger generation of soul groovers, especially in the city centres around the UK. With this in mind, we are proud to announce our new night in central Manchester, located in The Northern Quarter (Stevenson Square). So wether you're a young soul, or forever young soul, get yourself along to The Room at The Top!! Our previous promotions in Wigan (Under the Wigan [Not So Young] Souls brand) and the surrounding areas have been incredibly successful but we have struggled to get a late-night licence. So moving forward, it makes sense for us to be located in the heart of Manchester (Soul-City!) and bring to you a night of up-front Soul soul music, played on original 1st issue vinyl. This venue, makes our events more accessible via the many transport links into Manchester and we hope that you can support us to make something really special here. GUEST DJ - ALEX JOHNSON (THE HOOCHIE COOHIE, NEWCASTLE) RESIDENT DJs - JORDAN WILSON, CONNOR WHITE & CHARLES SIMPSON Strictly ticket only and a capped at 120 people. We hope you can join us! TICKETS: https://www.skiddle.com/whats-on/Manchester/Aatma/ROOM-AT-THE-TOP-SOUL-CLUB/36368465/ LOCATION: Aatma, 11 Stevenson Square (just off Oldham Street) in the alleyway behind the Hula Bar.

  13. Well here we are quarter of the way through 2023 and MD are proud to bring you our first release of the year we have been busy working away on various things which will pan out through the coming months. But back to this release and what a way to kick of the year with a standout pair of tracks never before available on vinyl. All the way out of Philly comes Alfreda Brockington, a well known and much loved artist with a catalogue of releases that span from the sweet soul and gospel through thundering northern soul monsters to absolute bombs of sister funk. Here we have on the A side a stunning piece of funky crossover magic that pounds along. Written by Howard Ravitsky off Lash records fame and Bunny Sigler - who needs no introduction. Flip it over for a sweet and smooth soul sound that just oozes along powered by Alfreda's yearning anguished vocal beautifully supported by the backing singers and a backing that has more than a nod to the fabulous southern soul greats of the era. So don't delay, turn the volume up and hit play on the sound clips. All the best the MD collective. Alfreda Brockington A.mp4 Alfreda Brockington A_1.mp4

  15. Looking like this is going to be an another busy night! With friends traveling from London, Oxfordshire, South Yorkshire, Cumbria and The Midlands! Where are you traveling from?
  16. Wondering what you can expect to hear? Well here are the DJs selections for Friday 31st March... Of course, the finest OVO vinyl
  17. Not long to go now until our 2nd event! If you want that buzz back... Come along
  18. Is anybody on here from Sutton Coldfield / Birmingham area? Are you in any community/buy & sell type of groups on Facebook, can you share the picture from the doorbell camera into them groups? We need to get this image out to the wider world and not just the soul scene. Might be worth doing Nottingham groups too?
  19. Really devastating news. Just thinking - did Kitch not have some 45s lifted from a Nottingham venue a few years back? Not sure if he ever got them back.
  20. After the great success of our first event - along with all the positive comments... We have been invited by back the club on Friday 31st March for our second instalment of Wigan [Not So Young] Souls. Guest DJ for this night is Tom Dacey (Co-promoter of The Funk Institute, Burnley). If you missed the first one, you missed a superb night! We had lots of long distance travellers which used our night as a stop off point before travelling onto Saturday gigs the day after. Real energetic dance floor, superb sound system... and I know you hear that often 'Top Sound System' blah blah blah... but really... we do boast on having a great high-fidelity system to really get into the spirit of the night! Roll on Friday 31st March...
