    Well here we are quarter of the way through 2023 and MD are proud to bring you our first release of the year we have been busy working away on various things which will pan out through the coming months. But back to this release and what a way to kick of the year with a standout pair of tracks never before available on vinyl. All the way out of Philly comes Alfreda Brockington, a well known and much loved artist with a catalogue of releases that span from the sweet soul and gospel through thundering northern soul monsters to absolute bombs of sister funk. Here we have on the A side a stunning piece of funky crossover magic that pounds along. Written by Howard Ravitsky off Lash records fame and Bunny Sigler - who needs no introduction. Flip it over for a sweet and smooth soul sound that just oozes along powered by Alfreda's yearning anguished vocal beautifully supported by the backing singers and a backing that has more than a nod to the fabulous southern soul greats of the era.     Is anybody on here from Sutton Coldfield / Birmingham area? Are you in any community/buy & sell type of groups on Facebook, can you share the picture from the doorbell camera into them groups? We need to get this image out to the wider world and not just the soul scene. Might be worth doing Nottingham groups too?

    After the great success of our first event - along with all the positive comments... We have been invited by back the club on Friday 31st March for our second instalment of Wigan [Not So Young] Souls. Guest DJ for this night is Tom Dacey (Co-promoter of The Funk Institute, Burnley). If you missed the first one, you missed a superb night! We had lots of long distance travellers which used our night as a stop off point before travelling onto Saturday gigs the day after. Real energetic dance floor, superb sound system... and I know you hear that often 'Top Sound System' blah blah blah... but really... we do boast on having a great high-fidelity system to really get into the spirit of the night! Roll on Friday 31st March...

Please can we ask that you use this entrance which leads you directly into the function room, instead of going through the 'members lounge'. Kicks off at 7.00pm it's looking like it will be a busy night.

    Thank you!!! To everybody who has shared their Lowton Civic Hall photographs throughout the years. It has helped to create this great collage of images! Although this might be hard to view on a computer screen/phone - I'm organising a large print to be on show for the The Spirit of Lowton - Anniversary Special @ Culcheth. In the meantime, keep your images, memories and sounds coming! We hope you can make it along for a great night on Saturday 4th February 8pm until 2am! Note: this anniversary special will go on until 2am!

    To answer a few questions: How close is the venue to Wigan Town Centre? The venue is 6 minutes drive from Wigan Wallgate and North Western Train stations (Both train stations are opposite each other and located in Wigan Town Centre). The taxi rank is directly opposite the North Western Station. Where is the closest hotel? The closest hotel is Premier Inn (Wigan Town Centre) which again is a few minutes drive in a taxi or if you fancy a walk, it will take around 10 minutes. There is another hotel in Wigan at The Swan & Railway... Although these rooms seem to be more expensive than the Premier Inn. Hope you can join us on Friday 20th January.
