  1. Whilst busy working I was looking through some articles and came across this post. You can have my thoughts for what they are worth........ I have had a soft spot for the Little John Bowie "my love my love" on Phil-La since I heard it on a tape (Stafford tiime, lovingly entitled "Classy 6Ts rarities from Ion the Greek") I went and bought a copy thinking what a mega sound..... It always seemed to have to have an older sound to it than the "Go go Annie" side. I knew the numbering on the Phil-La singles was a little odd but thought nothing of the differences in the two matrix/catalogue numbers on each side. I always thought the Big John & The Philadelphians records were a bit "too old school" for me.....so I never bothered with them.......Recently I saw the Big John & The Philadelphians "My love my love" on Guyden on that well known internet auction site. This had a soundclip with it......a quick listen cant hurt......bazinga.... I suddenly realised why the Phil-La side sounded older...it was! One cheeky punt later I now have two records with the same track by two different named artists on 2 labels....oh well. Apart from the fact that it would save studio cost and the cost of a master, does anyone know why the same track was used spread across half a decade? Ok so I now know that John Bowie is Little John Bowie and also lead for Big John & Philadelphians. I know the Merben 45 is him but is there anything else worth buying? Also...what is going rate nowadays? Best regards Steve
  2. Callum, How much did you pay? There's no cost structure on the web page. Regards Steve
  3. Haha, is there no end to the lack of imagination in the mind of a rip off merchant? Lets hope they did the right thing and pressed it with the Cliff Richard version/song on the B side Is there really such a lack of good quality sounds around to play? Cant say i've played mine in the last twenty years....should I give it to Johnny Manship to auction?
  4. There's a version of "Money" by Cherry Wainer, organ workout in a mod style....1960. Green Columbia. First UK cover of a Motown song?
  5. This has just made me smile...I have the Billy Adams (£8 buy 20+ years ago). However I don't think I have ever played the "Go (Go On)" side since I bought it, and certainly didn't realise that it was a Keb spin. To my ears the better side is the other one: "You and Me" big Van McCoy thumper/beater....IMHO anyway. Cheers BTW Patti & Emblems is super spin.
  6. hi my copy has same label design as the ebay scan. titles are 'i found a lover"/"stop it' constellation type label (dark blue colour/silver ink for type). matrix is scratched not stamp. had it a long time. wanted their other track but could not remember title at time and thought it was this..... why would anyone boot it? it was never mainstream so not worth bothering. ok tune. cheers
  7. Pete lol rarer than US OVO then! wait for the rush..... cheers Steve
  8. Hi Pete, i thought it was snowy or maybe damons? (upside down?) yep sounds like the same one. don't know the provenance.....I have had mine since early 1990s. i know who it came from and was sure it wasnt legit...could be wrong though...it often happens. not much point in posting a pic as it is just a blank label cheers steve
  9. Hi Pete, is your UK white label just a blank white label with the LYN29461/LYN29462 scratched into it? Does it also have BLL1018A/B scratched in? Steve

Juanita Williams: Baby boy Gospel Classics: More love Little Johnny Taylor: Zig zag lightning Groovers; I'm a bashful guy Four Pros: Just another girl Players: Get right Brothers of Soul: Come on back Ronnie Savoy: Loving you Shirley Wahls: Why am I crying Big Maybelle: Let me go
  12. Hey, a topic i feel I can contribute to. Twenty five years ago these were big beat ballads. Not sure if in today's parlance they may be mid tempo, but for my money i would pick two big and pretty obvious choices: from the ladies......Mitty Collier "my party" chess from the gents.......Walter Jackson "after you there can be nothing" okeh cheers
