I play vinyl at home most days..... I generally only have enough patience to get maybe 1 minute through any track before wanting to hear another one ....it always starts out as spinning one or two but always ends up as dragging big piles out to play..... I normally (ha) end up making a set fit in style and content.... :-)

Martyn,....easy..........if it isn't new then it's old........ you played what was advertised for the venue....oldies with a little bit of thought and imagination.....box ticked.....I thought your set went down well. My take?.....+Oldies are any tunes that have been played out at any time across the 50+ year history of the "rare" soul/r&b scene....just a few then? A good set can be composed totally of oldies but put together with thought, feeling and imagination......that "!!WTF is this?" or "I'd forgotten about that!!!" type of moment....... The real hope is that people are receptive enough to want to listen to sounds they don't know rather than just a narrow choice of what they already know....but that's' another debate.......Best regards
-
Not funny really but i had a copy early 1980s....I was really taken with the cover...my tastes were a bit more r&b at the time....I thought the music was pants.....I ended up throwing the lp and keeping the cover....certainly not the dumbest move i've were made, but up there with a good few more (with 20/20 hindsight) ... If the lp is £5's worth, whats the cover worth then? :-)

I put some photos in the Gallery section over the weekend the last database update went on. They are from the NME dated 02 September 1978. Article is write up of visit to Kay Gee Bee Sheffield. Anyone recognise anyone? Have to admit it made me want to go buy Ray Charles "I don't need no doctor" on import. Regards

An Evening With Motown Sound An Evening With Motown Sound“AN EVENING WITH THE MOTOWN SOUND” You are viewing “Motown Collectors Trophy-piece” … as far as “Motown-Memorabillia” is concerned.. A 1967 ....blah blah blah... Essential… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 64.00 Bit shocked to see what this went for as well. I was going to comment at the time of the results, but thought I would wait.........I knew I had one of these somewhere........ Just spent the day "tidying" in the garage. Found one ! ... along with some promo photos (Yvonne Fair, Chuck Jackson, Blinky and Marv Johnson), some post cards (from Cadet and Hot Wax), Fan club cards (Martha and Vandellas & Marvelettes) and some Innocenti promo photos and dealer information sheets.....in amongst all the other stuff I have accumulated.... Probably off topic and old news, but just thought I would say.......

Thank you Phil. I enjoyed it...top Yorkshireman's outing.......like playing at home but with free electric...Not sure about the bloody candles though.... On the music front...I know there was a bit too much soul-type stuff...easily rectified.....I have been busy going through my collection of gomersal r&r and batley skiffle sounds.....I think I have some "real" 78s to play next time! -
