  1. in Scotland? as a "scot", i would be interested in the who, what where?
  2. yes agreed there were loads of us willing Andy on, and wished he would have won, but in some respects I'm glad it wasn't Andy that paid 12k Andy has and will continue to have great records to both play and collect - all without spending 12k on ONE
  3. Yes quite a character i remember when I was doing the all nighters at Allanton, I got a phone call from him i had never heard of him and honestly thought it was a "wind up" due to his strong accent - don't recall exactly where he was from he informed me that he was coming up to scotland to the all nighter and gave me more or less the exact time he would arrive in order to get set up told me what kind of floor slace he neede for tables etc. AND most importantly always told me "ALL ME RECORDS ARE BRAND NEW JIM - I DONT SELL ANY SECOND HAND RECORDS" i honestly thought it was one of my mate winding me up But, almost bang on time there he was waiting at the hall - loaded with bloody records quite a character indeed he was !!!
  4. That's the guy Ivor - I got some great deep 45's over the years from him remember buying the Tommy Tate Malaco LP plus quite a few other new jap releases at the time also god I really do miss getting "lists" from people like that and loads of others like me, I'm sure we all had a few people that were dealers in general soul but weren't active on the northern scene - always managed to keep them from the masses!! i vote to ban vinyl sales from the internet and we all go boy back to getting lists through the door i kind of miss those Wednesday mornings hitting redial on the phone to get through to soul bowl - only to be told that what you were after was gone! - then scouring the list again and finding something else later in the day that was still available - off to get my dad to write a cheque or a good old postal order sent to kings Lynn - no PayPal in those days loved it immensely !!!!
  5. Don't know what the guys name was actually Andy But I think it may have been Colchester - will dig around to see if I can find any old lists etc jim
  6. Kind of thought it was MS Dave is he still active at all in buying or selling records ?

  8. Didn't realise this was same guy - used to like his lists - remember buying Alex Brown on Sundi off his list in around 1988/89 - think it was £30 he always had some quite nice things
  9. Just curios as to what happened to the following - apologies if this has been covered Black Grape - got some great stuff over the years from Gary Black Knight - last I spoke to Gary many years ago and seem to remember he was diagnosed with something but can't recall what - cancer/MS? Ivor Allen - used to attend Allanton and took up half the bloody record bar A N Other - cant recall this one but he dealt mainly in Japanese LP's - P vine etc. Boogaloo Records - Leicester etc. Cheers Jim

  11. Figured out what kitches Little Beaver c/u was (jimmy bo horne - just can't speak on DADE) first night he played it at Allanton 1990? 1 days later on the monday morning one if many lists ( remember those - lists?) pops through the door from Black Grape with Jimmy B H on it - cant remember the price - around £15 / £20 from memory regret - i only bought one! however happy days when sold it to Ginger Taylor for £1150
  12. Really? You don't think anyone in the UK deserves this type of accolade for their influence on the rare soul scene - come on - you havin a bloody laugh - if you read Mrs.M's original post, she has tried to use the term "heros" loosely and most people have recognised that!!
  13. Had these from new, cost me about £700 when new - won many awards and for years were one of the best you could buy still have original boxes - a couple of dings here and there on the cabinets - brilliant quality £250
