Rey Villar And Royal Flush Heaven Is My Witness
Keith Money replied to arnie j's topic in Look At Your Box
Hi Nev, Thanks for info, I always like to hear record stories about who discovered and played them first so apologies for getting it wrong. I remember that night very well when we were both on and the brilliant records played all night which was normal for Paul, Tony, Mark, Budgie and yourself. I think when I got my record it was the last copy that came from the original source as I had to buy it from Switzerland (I think) which is where he had moved to and he said he didn't have any more. Anyway a fabulous tune and thanks for playing it. -

For me a Mr Paul Havekin spin as that's where I first heard it and another Greatstone fabulous tune. It may have been played before that but I first heard it from Paul and what a tune it is (in my opinion) crossover magic. I can honestly say just about every time that I have played it out somebody has come up and asked what it is which just shows what a fabulous underrated tune it is. -
Fabulous taste as always Mark, I heard Paul Havekin play this at the Greatstone in Manchester and it is a brilliant piece of soul music, See you soon, Keith

An absolute gentleman and one of the people you meet in your life and will never forget, such is the impression he left you with, We had many hours of discussion about records and labels over the years and his knowledge and taste was second to none, Luckily I saw Mickey a few Months ago at Taste Of Honey which was great but he will be greatly missed from all who new him, Our thoughts are with Annie and Mickeys family, Keith & Sandra

Mine came via Gary Spencer when he sold up so wheteher he cut it for himself to DJ with I am not sure. Keith

Good taste from Kitch again, what year was that about? Keith

Hi Chalky, I bought this still covered up from KItch (I still have it with part of the cover up label on it) as Hal Miller "On top of the world". I cant remember when i bought it exactly but it was awhile ago and not uncovered at the time, He used to always say "Hal Miller and he's still on top of the world" which always sounded great to me. Not sure who else played it but Kitch for definite was where I first heard it around the time of the White Heather club in Carlisle I think. Hope this helps Keith

Hi Joan, I also remember when Mark thought he had lost the Sonny Herman but it was a couple of weeks later that he found it as you say two records in one sleeve. I think he actually put an advert in Black Echoes to try and get it back. Happy days Keith

Hi Richie, Hope your well, All correct first played by the legendary Rob Marriott who then sold it to Mark Wilson who I think sold it to James Trouble as he doesn't have it now. Unfortunately I don't think Mark is on the scene much these days which is a real pity as he had fabulous records and taste. As you say mine came from Shifty, before he went on one of his trips to America he asked me if there was a major want I was looking for and I told him if he saw a Soul Incorporated that I would buy it from. Not really thinking he would get one I couldn't believe it when he phoned when he got back to say he had one for me which was really good of him as I dont know if he kept one for himself or not but if he did I never heard him play it out. As you say Kenny never had one. Keith

Jim & Trisha's Wedding and the Inuagural Allnighter
Keith Money commented on Dave Rimmer's article in Event News
Fabulous blog Dave, we also had a great weekend and really enjoyed the company, Special thanks to Sian for being an excellent chauffeur especially after I managed to loose my glasses and she took me back to the hotel to try and find them. This was all in vain as I had actually left them in a taxi while going to Jim & Trish's wedding. I actually need glasses to find my glasses which isn't easy. A big thanks also to Phil for being a great host on Saturday night where we had a great time at his house and there were lots of fabulous tunes played. Keith and Sandra -
I was really shocked when I heard that the Greatstone was closing as I assumed that such a fabulous night would just go on and on. Over the years I have been lucky enough to have DJd a few a times and had an absolute ball every time, The amount of brilliant records I first heard there or was put onto from Paul, Tony, Mark, Stevie Z and Budgie is also unreal. I took a couple of guys from Dundee with me once and I pre-warned them there would be lots of record they wouldn't know so we went in at 8 o'clock so we could hear the brilliant records early. They started writing down records as soon as we got in but they gave up as they got fed up going to the decks, I told them they would need to write them on a toilet roll the because of the amount of paper they would need. I just wish the Greatsone was closer to Dundee because I would have been at every one. Hopefully the guys will do something else in the future but it is like banging your head agsinst a brick wall sometimes getting people to attend venues especially ones with upfront music policy. A big thanks from me also for some brilliant nights and fabulous hospitality for both me and Sandra. All the best in the future Keith

Brilliant, As always Thanks for posting -
I have both the original which ive had about 10 years and the re-issue which I bought about 5 years ago and as I already had the real one it was very obvious when you see them together but maybe not so obvious when you don't. The run out groove matrix gives it away as the real one has mw-736 with the number scored out and 738 next to it on the "Ill Run" side, And on the "Aint that something" mw-737 with the number scored out and 739 next to it. The run out groove on the boot has NSLAR-52710 - B GEO on the "Ill Run" side and NSLAR-52710 - A GEO on the "Aint that something" side. Hope that helps Keith

Dave, I am at work so I couldnt check but the My heart remembers side is pure quality which I dont think I have heard out anywhere. As for price who knows pick a number and either double it or half it as it is just pot luck on the day just now with record prices. But both sides brilliant in my opinion Keith

Hi Dave This is the same as mine with the 'Demo not for sale' stamped on the issue which I have had for a long time, I bought it from Pat Brady many moons ago when he still had hair so you can imagine how long I have had it. As mentioned about the B side "My heart remembers" is way ahead of its time when you consider when it was released I think it was 1962 and its one of my favourite Willie Tee songs also. When he played at Cleethorpes a few years ago I had the record with me to get his autograph and when he saw it he asked if he could get take it over to show his wife which was pretty unreal. He then asked me if his son could come over and video us getting his autograph and looking at the records I had brought. An absolute gentleman and sadly missed.

So sorry to hear about Bishops Wood closing as its another quality venue struggling with numbers through no fault of your own. Too many nights with to few punters through the door is a recipe for disaster for everybody as we know. As I said when I was down if Bishops Wood was was closer to Dundee I would been a regular attendee as the music policy was great. Hopefully you will get something else going and the 3 years you had will give you great memories. Keith

Hi Phillys, Go and see the show as you will enjoy it, We saw it in Edinburgh last week and it is really good, Melvyn show goes through the various times from the slaves right up to modern day and it is well worth seeing. He is described as "Movin Melvin Brown" and his voice is still superb. After his show there are some CDs for sale and he comes out to have a chat with anyone who wants to talk to him and he is really nice bloke. I was there with Phil & Sheilah Ross and after the show I said to Phil there is a guy called Melvin Brown who sang "Loves Stromy Weather " but that cant be the same guy as there is no way he would be here in Edinburgh. So Phil goes out and asks him and I expected him to say "no that is another Melvin Brown" but he said "yes thats me but how do you know that record" which completely blew him away. I still thought this cant be him so I asked what label was "Love stormy Weather" on and straight away he says Philmore and then he said it also came out on Grapevine a couple of years ago as well but he was amazed that anybody knew it especially in Edinburgh. So we got our picture taken and autographs done as you do and spoke to him for a while about some of the acts that he had worked with which is a whos who of soul music including, Marvin Gaye, Isley Brothers (who he was at school with 3 of them), Smokey Robinson, James Brown, Stevie Wonder when he was Little, Four Tops, Temptations,BB King, Archie Bell as he lived in Texas and the list is endless. Reluctantly we said goodbye as he was still soaking with sweat from doing his show and we left to go home. As we were going to get a Taxi Phil said lets go in that pub for a drink before we go home so we went inside & I went to the toilet. when I got back Phil says you arent going to believe whos at the bar so I go and look and theres Melvin having a cup of tea. So I thought I dont want him to think we are stalking him but when can you get a chance to talk to some one like him. I appologised for doing his head in but you could tell he was really enjoying talking about some of the acts he had known and was surprised by the amount of things we knew which he wasnt expecting. I even asked about one of my favourites the TSU Toronadoes as he lived in Texas at the same time they were on the go and he knew them as well and I asked him if he could remember Cal Thomas who wrote and sang lead vocal from the TSU which he said he did so that made my night. I could ramble on even more but enjoy his show and if anybody doesnt know "Loves Stormy Weather" have a listen on Refosoul as I am sure it is on there and you will see what a talent he is. Back to work now unfortunately Keith
