  1. Great to see the first two acts on Lloyd and Reid, respectively, playing together in that ad. Keep them coming.
  2. Roy Hytower played in Miami for several years in the early '70s -- after his recording days. I have a radio spot for one of his appearances at the Wreck Bar, somewhere around here.
  3. Two other members of the Gospel Jazz Singers recorded -- and both got onto national labels as well: Barry Smith, and Patti Jo (Demps).
  4. Actually, three of the acts recorded -- Bobby Marshall, Frank DuBoise, and E. Lois Foreman.
  5. This show had a big impact on the Marvells. They were blown away by Marie Knight... and, needless to say, worked up a version of "Cry Me A River".
  6. There was no relation between the Soul Searchers groups. Teddy Washington (who just died a few years back) was originally from Jacksonville, and had been around for a long, long time. His most collectable record is a killer cover of "Ain't No Sunshine" from 1973. Craig Moerer lists it often, so it's not all that hard to find.
  7. Thanks to Barry for pointing this thread out to me. Some very interesting comments and observations here. Thanks also to Roburt for all the pix -- I've only gone through a fragment of the Miami Times archives, so many of these are new to me. Great stuff. I did a very thorough history of the Marvells/Fabulettes for Soul Up North a few years ago. I don't remember the issue number, but it was a cover story, and won't be hard to find. The "trio" pix of them were during a transition period. They wound up replacing Annette Snell several times, including a former member of the Twans, but how do you replace Annetta? Even after she left the group, they all remained good friends... and in fact, she had just finished visiting Addie Williams in Miami not too long before her Southern Air flight crashed. When I get the time, I'll add some comments to some of the posts. Keep it coming, guys.
