  1. It's for a 14 year old girl, she won't be that fussed
  2. Seems to be gone now.
  3. For a Xmas present.. can anyone help?
  4. My experience is that wood glue dries quite brittle and doesn't peel well.. kids PVA glue is perfect.
  5. Jim's already in my sites
  6. DO NOT use abrasives! You're adding wear rather than removing it. Filling the scratches with gunk is also a bad idea. As John S said, it's fucked. Careful cleaning may get rid of dirt that adds to the problem, but absolutely nothing in this world will get rid of scratches.
  7. Glad to see this thread is still running. I've been swamped for weeks so this has had to take a back seat.. for now. I've got a few quiet weeks coming up so I'll be attacking this with gusto!
  8. It's impossible to remove noise if it's scratches, but PVA glue gives it a good deep clean and can improve the sound because you'll probably find it's a combination of scuffs AND dirt. It won't be perfect but you may get a slight improvement. Or find a record shop with a good record cleaning service if you're scared of the glue
  9. Thanks to everyone who's commented here and for the PMs and emails I've received over the weekend. Last week I had a notion to write a short(ish) article for my site, this week I'm considering approaching some publishers and writing a book! Please keep adding to this thread as everything is being noted. I have a LOT of researching to do, and many people to speak to so this is probably now going to take over my life. Comments here are totally invaluable and much appreciated!
  10. I've been thinking about Shades of Soul - I only ever had a few copies and, despite hoarding a ton of stuff, I can't seem to locate them.
  11. The scooter scene has strong links to the mod scene, as does Northern soul, so it's not difficult to see the link. I think the earlier post maybe referred to NS at scooter rallies though (Allniter club of GB was linked to the rallies I'm sure?) rather than scooterists attending the venues we're discussing..
  12. Totally agree Ady. I'll take your comment as an offer to help
  13. Thanks Byrney, if you could that would be fantastic!
  14. Exactly what I'm trying to say. The point of the story is the change in music, passion and attitude that came about in a time when the general consensus is that the scene died. If you can find that thread it would be a big help.
  15. Just read the 80s chapter and it kind of sums up why I want to do this. It skims over what I think was a real groundbreaking era, mentions a couple of clubs and then quickly moves onto Richard Searling's radio shows. As if that period doesn't really count.
  16. This is exactly it - nail on the head Jock. This is the story I want to tell.
  17. Hi Iain, no problem with what you're doing but it would be helpful if you maybe started your own thread as there are now two seperate things being discussed here and it's quite confusing.
  18. Indeed. Don't get me wrong, as I said I won't miss anything out!
  19. Mick, that's the problem I have - I can't simply list every venue and every DJ. I realise that the pieces are spread far and wide and fitting the jigsaw together would be an impossible task. As I said, I'm not going to miss anything if it fits but the focus has to be the groundbreaking clubs and the most influential DJs.
  20. Speedlimit.. That's exactly the kind of response I was hoping for! I'll give you a shout after the weekend. Thank you!!
  21. OK. The first thing I guess I have to do is decide which clubs to focus on. As I said to someone earlier, listing every single club that ran after 1981 will be a chore to read. Obviously they all have a place, but give me some opinions on which clubs were major contributors to the evolution of the scene in the 1980s, and why. I won't ignore any clubs btw or try to write them out of history, just don't want to get bogged down in way too much information.
  22. Forgot all about that - got it in my hands now. Cheers!
  23. That's the point of what I'm writing mate - this isn't my assumption, it's the assumption of TV producers and the media. I know the scene wasn't dying because the 80s was, for me, the pinnacle. It's time the full story was told!
  24. That would be amazing if you could Len. Thank you!!
