  5. One that gave me an ear worm when I first heard it and still does...also agree about Hand in Glove by Arthur C mentioned earlier..
  6. French and Portugese issue EP methinks ? Love it and agree. Taff
  7. Mark, I remember big Ron with his cross hanging from his neck stepping in to a riot between the local Morecambe and Lancaster skins and a scooter crew outside the Club - could have been Preston or Blackpool scooter club ? Riot over, everyone piled back in to hear a Little Piece of Leather booming and get a bollocking from Ron for unchristian behaviour ! The battle on the bridge against the New Planet Nebs was another very unchristian night when the Club regulars objected to the Hell's Angels taking up residence in the old station. Exchanges of petrol bombs and gunshots was certainly a first for me. Always great tunes at the Club tho. On reflection it is strange that a "Youth Club" had such a very loyal hard core clientele of scooter boys and skins who would go to the pub round the corner then back to the Club for the music before heading elsewhere. Happy days ! Taff
  8. Hi, have you tried Steve Middlesbrough ? He may have some from back in Radio Doom days when he was an apprentice DJ at the Club. Taff

  13. Sad news about a top bloke. Morecambe FC mad, I'm sure he used to edit their programme as well at one time. RIP Sean. Taff
  14. Just bagged tickets for Marlene Shaw at Ronnie Scott's, looks like it's close to a sell out for the whole week. https://www.ronniescotts.co.uk/performances/view/2460-marlena-shaw Taff
  15. Swing Low Sweet Chariot did it for me, not the Sam Cooke, 1960 version though. I mean the version that the England supporters were singing to me at the Millenium Stadium last Friday night Taff
  16. Steady John, surely you can't be you thinking of going to another event just yet. Cleethorpes was barely 7 months ago Taff
  17. John, I don't disagree, but that's the only one you went to Taff
  18. Nowt wrong with Sharleen, she often mentions Northern Soul when asked about her musical influences. In fact, in response to the original post, I googled her, saw she was on tour and now have 2 tix for her Southend gig, which looks well on the way to selling out. Mind you, I reckon DILY is still a fair bet to be broadcast all the same...... Taff
  19. Soulboy is scheduled to be shown on BBC 2 on Friday night at 11:35. One of the Films of the week in yesterday's Sunday Times If you haven't already had the opportunity to cringe, now's your chance Taff
  20. Indeed they were, especially with locals who knew the "alternative" ways in Taff
  21. There's a slightly stereotypical, superior southerner, review of the film in this week's London edition of Time Out. https://www.timeout.com/london/film/northern-soul-2014 The same edition also includes a very potted history of Northern Soul. https://www.timeout.com/london/music/a-guide-to-northern-soul It died out by the early ’80s Taff
  22. Going back in time, I didn't ever imagine LJR's Penguin Breakdown being anything other than an instrumental, still don't think the vocal compares. Ditto Al Kent, You Gotta Pay the Price, none of the vocal versions since hold a candle to it. Although the Supremes had a good try....... Taff
  23. Kev, whereabouts in Northampton, North or South ?
