Just a quick note to say we are looking forward to seeing you tomorrow. Last month was too busy so we have determined that we will restrict the number for entry in order to avoid the day being uncomfortable. It's still a good number however, especially if you arrive late, you may find house full signs up. We hope you understand but your safety and comfort is paramount. No guest list either other than dj's and partners. DJ times tomorrow 2.00 - 3.30 Vance Butterworth 3.30 - 4.30 Angie Bretherton 4.30 - 5.30 Glyn Hanford 5.30 - 6.30 Kev Murphy 6.30 - 8.00 Pete Eccles

OLDHAM POLISH CLUB CHARITY SOUL (NO TALC)
Stretfordender commented on Stretfordender's event in Alldayers
Thanks to everyone who came down yesterday and made it a great day. Your generosity meant we raised £775 for Stockport Stroke Information which could increase with gift aid? In addition £153 was raised towards the convoy taking vital goods to Poland for the Ukrainian people. The club were really happy today that the dancefloor was clear of talc. Thank you all for keeping it clear, it means we can continue to hold such events. Finally a big thanks to the dj's on the day, some great music was played. A real team effort. Take care and see you at the Soul for Heroes event on Easter Sunday. -

OLDHAM POLISH CLUB CHARITY SOUL (NO TALC)
Stretfordender commented on Stretfordender's event in Alldayers
Back in October 2021 we ran an event in memory of a couple of good friends who we lost and couldn't say a proper farewell to. A good friend Val Mears co-ordinated that day and we raised over £1,200 for the heart fundation. We were being asked on the day when the next one was. Hence we now have another day with a registered chairty (see flyer) as the beneficiary. The DJ times will be posted later but look at the flyer all good local dj's giving their time and energy for free. We have tried to avoid other events within the locality, apologies if it clashes. The Polish Club is a great venue with a great dancefoor. NO TALC is need and is BANNED. Please, if you are coming, do not bring any it will only lead to embarrassment Thanks -
Always better to post feedback from an attendee rather than as a promoter. This from Geoff Green. When I read on Soul Source that Ted Massey was appearing at the Spitfire Soul Club in Farnworth I thought it worth a visit as I knew I'd hear some of the soul music I really like. Sandra Green too was keen to go. We got there at about 2.10 and the room was already very busy, luckily we did get seats. The first DJ was Vance Butterworth, one of the regular DJs there, he played a good mix of Northern, Modern and R&B, the latter getting Sandy on the dance floor. Next up was Ronnie Hanley, I had never heard of him but he was good, playing some generally fast records, might have been a bit of a challenge to me to dance to them. I didn't know most of his set, that makes things interesting, don't want to know every record that you hear. Derek Whatmough who followed Ronnie is a local Bury DJ. He did a very good set including quite a few medium tempo Crossover tracks. As is often the case I heard a particular favourite as I returned to my seat after going to the toilet, this time it was 100 Wonders by the TSU Toronadoes. Vance then did a 30 minute set, then Ted took to the decks. First track was Royal Texas Slim Bell's Sweet Little Girl, that got me out of my seat, and so it went on, a mix of tempos with His True Love For You and Foolish Girl, my request, then speeding up gradually with She's Gone, Joseph Webster's My Love Is So Strong and then United Sounds' It's All Over (Baby). I had to have a rest after that lot, then the opening bars of Beside Myself by Pee Wee, Shucks & Huey brought me to my feet. One of my all-time favourites that I have to dance to. Ted slowed things down with I Just Can't Speak and ended his set with Count The Days and I Won't Be Coming Back by J D Bryant. A great set that made me feel I was at an all nighter, just the soul music I want and need to hear. For the last 90 minutes Pete Eccles took over and again really mixed up the tunes, he said he was playing records that he'd not played for ages: Hush Don't Cry, Stolen Hours, Good News, etc. Very nice. We left at about 7.45, very happy and satisfied with our afternoon. Sandy seemed to know nearly everyone there which I suppose isn't surprising, for me it was good to catch up with Ted, Nige Brown and Elaine Sawetz. It was a very friendly crowd and I'm beginning to get to know people here. The Spitfire Club is now on our list of soul events that we don't want to miss. Thanks to the organisers and the DJs.
