My sisters used to go to the Top 20. Don't hear it mentioned much.

Reminds me of a night at Blackpool Mecca, me and my mate, about fifteen/sixteen. Missed our coach so hitched back to Rochdale. Second lift dropped us in Moss Side at about 4:00 am. We were approached by a gang of about six brothers. "United or City?" was the question we had to answer for safe passage. Scary night!

"We" don't think it's politics. "We" think it's a matter of life and death for thousands of people. Sorry.
-
So sorry about that, I got carried away. Could you give me a nudge when I'm allowed to start criticising the government? No hurry.
-
Unlike the celebrity TV Doctor Hilary, I'm not privy to the data released to the WHO, but I can tell you two things. Firstly the Chinese immediately imposed a full lockdown, which the UK have still failed to do. I know people in my city who have had the virus and I know people who know other virus victims, none of whom died. Secondly, as the extent of the UK governments abysmal failure becomes even more apparent, there will be a lot more finger pointing by the media in order to distract from the real fraudsters - Doris and Co.
-
Similar here in China, but no fines. Also, if you go into a public building - supermarket, restaurant, housing complex - you scan a qr code on your phone so that if someone is found to have the virus, the authorities can track those who potentially came into contact. It's breaking my heart to watch what is happening in England. A dead business can be resuscitated, a dead person can't.

My province of Sichuan has a population of 80,000,000. Face covering was/is compulsory in public places. We've had 600 cases and 3 deaths. A lot wore bandanas because masks ran a bit short.
-
Masks also stop you touching your mouth and nose, and make you think before you do things. Even a bandana is better than nothing. Think about it.
-
, Unbelievable, it's like Soweto.
-
HI folks. Is there a reason why nobody is wearing masks when outside? I know that they are not 100% effective, but they are better than nothing. Nurses wear them. Over here, you can't go to a public place without wearing a mask.

Apologies for the confusion. "We" refers to the British expat community in China. Suspicious is an adjective Def: having or showing a cautious distrust of someone or something. 'he was suspicious of their motives' synonyms: doubtful, unsure, dubious, wary, chary, sceptical, distrustful, mistrustful, disbelieving, having reservations, apprehensive, cynical, jaundiced, iffy. I advised someone to avoid social media "initially", during self confinement. I never mentioned this site, though on reflection, maybe I should have. I have never claimed expertise, only experience of the matter at hand, of which, you seem to take exception to any criticism of the government's handling of the matter. Btw, my prediction of 500 dead by Monday is looking about right. This time next week there will be over 3000 dead. Let's hope the government has acted by then.
-
Yes, it's nice at the moment, everyone is out and about. Where I live there is no compulsory masking in the street, but a lot still do. On the financial side here, the government said employers must pay the first month's pay in full and then 70% after then, and a free month of rent or mortgage. The lock-down has lasted less than two months, but it has worked. We can't understand why the UK won't lock down and monitor people entering the country. It's madness, and very suspicious.
-
I think you misunderstand me. If people do stupid, selfish things, they can't turn around and say "it's the media's fault". People are responsible for their own actions. They're not children.
-
Greetings from China, I hope you are all well. Firstly, stop blaming the media, you know that they are scumbags - they have just installed Doris as PM. Secondly, you are going into lock down, it's just a matter of time. The quicker it happens, the less suffering and deaths. It wasn't a repressive regime that curtailed people's individual freedom over here, it was common sense. Everyone here has pulled together and acted for the good of the community, apart from a few arseholes trying to dodge curfews and basic hygiene. You guys are way behind the curve. Think of this; In January you took some Brits from Wuhan and put them in an isolation hospital in Arrowe Park, quite sensible. At the same time, thousands of people were flying into UK from China and elsewhere without any monitoring at all, and as far as I know, this is still the case. Assume that your figures are going to double every day or two, until the lock down. If you have 35 deaths now, in a week there will be between 500 and 1,000 deaths. So that is what you have NOW. The disappointing thing for me is that you guys are being laughed at. What's with all the panic buying? Complaining about events being cancelled? Come on guys, you're better than that!
-
I think you guys have short memories. This list is just merchandise that Winstanley was trying to push through his business dealings. Since when was Tommy Hunt big anywhere?

Does anyone know who designed any of the sew on patches?
Drewtg replied to Lewisdnsc's topic in All About the SOUL
Hi Lewis, I designed two patches for Wigan. What would you like to know? -
I am starting a Northern Soul night in Chengdu, China. Does anyone know what the PRS situation is? I'd be grateful for any advice or referrals. Cheers.
-
Yes Paul, the music was dubbed over. The filming lasted for a good few hours so you couldn't say they were dancing to a particular track. A lot of folk wouldn't dance at all. Would you if you were smashed off your box and people were shining arc-lights on you? Terrible, terrible night. End of an era, etc, etc

Hi guys, I'm moving to China soon and I wondered if anyone knows if our music is getting played over there. Moving to Chengdu, any info appreciated.

So this Odyssey by Homer is just about getting home from the Trojan wars back in the day. If so.......................................... ;-)

Yeah I agree if you are talking about collectors but let's be honest, most folk are not collectors. Even in the early 70's a lot of dj's were fed records"discovered" by someone else who had done the dirty work. Btw what's so bad about the early 70's? That's when most of the best music was unearthed isn't it?
-
That's only true if you are a collector. The vast majority of people didn't/don't collect records thank god! :-)

I have recently returned to dj'ing after about forty years. I live abroad and have sold most of my collection. When I dj I have a memory stick with about 2,000 tracks on it. I don't have a playlist but maybe a few sounds that I want to play. When I used to dj I would have about 200 sounds to pick from but now, with such a vast repertoir, it's a lot easier to follow the dancefloor and keep it busy. I try to stick to sounds that I have owned but......... The (mainly) old crowd that I play for make requests (in fact I print request sheets and scatter them round the club) and I have never been one to refuse a request unless it's really inappropriate - say Dock of the Bay or something. I was asked for Stanky Get Funky, which is a sound which I would never have bought, and get requests for rarer stuff which I would never have been able to buy. I play them. I was in England a few years ago and went to an ovo soul night, there was some good music played but the dancefloor was totally ignored, I found this a massive culture shock. Any definition of Northern Soul must include the word 'dance'. The newer, younger people want to hear music they can dance to and it's a bit silly to try to tell them they can't because I don't own a particular piece of vinyl - it means nothing to them unfortunately. Back in the day we all went to nighters where pressings, bootlegs and EMIdisks were played, didn't we? During the week we all listened to ilegal tapes made from live venues didn't we? Would we have stopped going to nighters if the sounds were more readily available? I doubt it. I have only one queasy feeling about playing rips and downloads and that is PRS, which let's face it has always been a bit of a grey area. A few that were requested at my last gig: George Blackwell~Can't Lose My Head Greater Experience~Don't Forget to Remember Ty Karim~You Just Don't Know Bill Bush - I'm Waiting
