  1. oh........thanks for clearing that up!
  2. wow.......can't imagine them being played at Lifeline......!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. Cheers Ken......sounds like a different artist to me?
  4. Anyone identify this track please ? ......................
  5. Staying with M's........Brian Rae (Culcheth)...........Billy Paul (Ashton). Must be an old thread on here with all the info? I remember Fred posting a copy of an old flyer with the original M's DJ's.......Peter (?) Fishwick?
  6. great clip.......thanks for sharing.......went with Ronnie Hanley to my favourite all day venue
  7. Hiya Fred, yeah I know why it was taken down and didn't mean that, looks like Pete's had enough "feedback" from some of the genius's on here generally.
  8. Some of the people in that video were part of the backbone of what "the scene" was to me when I was introduced to it. I am not and never was a collector, just a dancer minding my own business and drinking it all in. Footsee was wank but it was a floor filler in its day. There is no secret society, let it go ffs. Those who are glad they were too young and so missed the early 70's clapping, music, clobber and gear and snear at it now aren't really qualified to express anything other than a totally unqualified point of view......you weren't there and you obviously don't get it. If Pete Smith has taken his ball home then who can blame him? A lot of quality, knowledge and fun seems to be evaporating from this site, which is a real shame.
  9. sorry for the late vote! Davy's and Swinton were on the list......didn't make Swinton last night.....still recovering from Davy's last week and too much work to do Tomorrow so bottled out.
  10. Just starting chapter 9 of 11. Great Book.........even "The Motown" in Shaw gets a mention! Now that's truly comprehensive writing.
  11. not gonna argue Steve.........only reference to time I can make is that we picked Douglas up from his Mum & Dad's, so it was before he moved out......and he had a couple of handfulls of G&C's......which were like rocking horse shit by then......so it was late 70's........but I deffo heard OB and remember thinking WTF as Douggy did his Jazzfunk strut to it!
  12. I remember it was a big and frequent play where we went. Legit copy Stereo on one side and mono on the other......snides mono both sides?
  13. ........heard it at the last nighter I attended there with Dougy Ling, Mick Malone, and Bry Millard........no doubt in my mind. Go figure?
  14. PIAS.........Prince George- Wrong Crowd......JJ Callier - Pusher Man.......and George Benson - On Broadway..........Sams memories for me
  15. how do Barry, was chatting to an old pal of yours from school, wigan etc can't remember his bloody name now! He was at Davy's Niter with his missus. Nice to see you back on here.
  16. ....Blimey, don't know if the original poster will see this some eight years later, but we went over from Shaw a couple of times. Thought it was Sunday nights?...could've been Thursdays. All chrome and mirrors (and I can confirm that John Willey's gnats p*ss was from Miggy, not Oldham by the way). Colin Curtis was DJ when we went and Prince George - wrong crowd was big and rare at the time.
  17. definitely Wigan, (and possibly Magnet Oldham mid-week) '74 My mate Chaddy's favourite sound then and now
  18. Hiya Fred...yeah we tend to share a similar outlook on here and other forums and I know you're fair and right minded and that you are out and about a lot more than most. I could name several other genuine soul people who have taken the same stance as you regarding GS events. I've voted with my feet from several venues run by other promoters too though 'cos of agro or "agadoo". Victims of their own success maybe? Agree with you though, better security and a stricter door policy would cure it. ATB John.
  19. "In the middle of the night I wake up screaming"....soul twins-QCA Always found that line slightly disturbing! But love the lyrics all the way through Gene Chandler's "nothing can stop me"
  20. Once an event, large or small, attracts the attention of the local beer monsters or becomes the local grab a granny night...its time to move on. Unfortunately, the problems been rife since the revival in the 90's and even some great venues/events have suffered from brawls breaking out. Late bars selling cheap beer with ineffective security...its going to happen. Keep dancing Jim.
  21. ...Just seen this...RIP Joe
  22. Great film that! Regret not taking the chance to go to the Sunday night revival do's early 2000's with regulars Pete Holden ("Niffer") and Jeanette, who are both old Wheelers, and big Lloyd from Oldham.
  23. Otis Blackwell -its all over me- Mecca Jades - where its at/ Adams Apples -don't take it out on this world- Wigan main room James Carr/ Dynatones/ Davis & Tyler - M's Harold Melvin - get out - Ashton Tiff's East Coast Connection - Summer in the parks/ Joe Frazier - Ritz Eddie Foster - I never knew - Rochdale Tiff's George Benson - on broadway - Samantha's GSH - the bottle - Hacienda Lieutenant Pigeon - moldy old dough - Boundary Park
