  6. Only went 4 or 5 times in 1980.......and about the same in 1981......usually oldies nights and anniversaries when there was enough interest as most of my mates were turning into funkateers by then, started going more to dayers and clubs like Smarties in Manchester. This is some of us in 1980...
  7. "That's groyt that is" Only heard a bit so far, will have a proper listen tonight.
  8. The essence is that its music from the soul of the performer/s which has a profound impact on the listener This particular type of music compels the listener to get more of the stuff to fuel his habit. It is not possible to replicate the music simply by performing the tune/song as this particular music has a quality which comes from a particular era and the manner in which it was recorded, arranged and produced is peculiar to that era. The music has a certain dignity which is borne of the fact that most of the recordings were not commercially successful and thus neither heard nor appreciated by the majority of people and what identifies devotees of NS is their recognition of that dignity in the music and the feeling that they are not buying into the mass exploitation engineered by big business in the music industry. The profound impact that the music has on its devotees,is denoted either by an urge to own a recording of the track and then search for more, or to share their appreciation of the music with others by playing it over a PA system or by interpreting and expressing the music in a particular style of dance influenced by the style of the artists themselves and also by the dance styles of the era in which the recordings were made. Insomnia's a b*stard innit.
  9. RIP Cody

  16. Won't ever hear me dissin' the Wheel or it's music mate.....massive respect for the old guard and have never referred to any soul as YC music. Often wonder why the Mecca & Cleethorpes don't get more time on here so not a one-track Wigan mind.........but bored rigid with the constant put-downs like the front end of the Wigan era wasn't legit..............it was to me and its because of it that I've never stopped dancing to the music

  19. think Pomonkey's thread started yesterday is based on the same article...... I would have my "disc" on the inferno label.....and I think the article says you can pick a couple of tunes.... Still thinking about the first tune......but the second one, which I'd also have played as the box disappears behind the curtain, is Ella's version of get ready https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3p1dvNjaPG4
  20. ......can you choose your own label..........or are they all on "Stiff Records" ?
  21. I'd get involved if there was enough genuine interest.
  22. That's already happening every weekend.....sounds like most of the venues I go to
  23. Maybe the answer is to look at a new foundation, rather than the national heritage route, "The Soul Hall of Fame" foundation with the idea of putting a memorial plaque on all such sites rather than just Wigan? Just an idea.......and I haven't had my medication yet !
