  3. Never got pulled at a niter, got ripped off and rolled as a youngster though, so used to drop it before we went in. Two near escapes though... One time me and Ronnie Hanley squeezed in the passenger seat of Bry Millard's triumph spitfire and we got pulled by a ford angela panda car a couple of miles from Wigan, just as we got out to be searched, a big noisy motor, zephyr or some such, went passed at about 70mph, so the bobbies said "be on yer way" and raced off to catch the "zephyr".....which was nice, especially as one of us had 10 years in their bag!!! The other time, me & Bry had scored off some lads from Rochdale. They got bubbled by a "mutual friend" who also bubbled Bry but only knew his surname. Bry's older brother, who was an old Wheelie, had a thriving business and a 911 was targeted by mistake, they searched his house and dug his garden up but found now't. We sh*t ourselves and I ended up wearing our stash round my waist for a week until we got shut!!!!

  9. just found this thread on here about Disco Classics, where "Frosty Jack" says the LP I've mentioned above was referred to in Vol 3 as being the first volume of the Disco Classics series....
  10. Yep, "Motown Memories - 16 Non-stop Tamla Hits" continuous play, no gap between tracks. In the spiel on the back cover he talks about the tracks being popular at "Discos"!! Don't know if it was a one off or part of a series.

  16. Only went 4 or 5 times in 1980.......and about the same in 1981......usually oldies nights and anniversaries when there was enough interest as most of my mates were turning into funkateers by then, started going more to dayers and clubs like Smarties in Manchester. This is some of us in 1980...

  18. The essence is that its music from the soul of the performer/s which has a profound impact on the listener This particular type of music compels the listener to get more of the stuff to fuel his habit. It is not possible to replicate the music simply by performing the tune/song as this particular music has a quality which comes from a particular era and the manner in which it was recorded, arranged and produced is peculiar to that era. The music has a certain dignity which is borne of the fact that most of the recordings were not commercially successful and thus neither heard nor appreciated by the majority of people and what identifies devotees of NS is their recognition of that dignity in the music and the feeling that they are not buying into the mass exploitation engineered by big business in the music industry. The profound impact that the music has on its devotees,is denoted either by an urge to own a recording of the track and then search for more, or to share their appreciation of the music with others by playing it over a PA system or by interpreting and expressing the music in a particular style of dance influenced by the style of the artists themselves and also by the dance styles of the era in which the recordings were made. Insomnia's a b*stard innit.
