  8. not actually looked into this uploading malarky on the new SS but if no one posts the B side i'll have a do for y'all! Or i could sing it for you if you want? 'say that you love me booooooooooooy...............and i'll give you all my time' How's that Cheers Steve
  9. will the new owner of the Len Jewell on Mr Wood please stand up don't tell me there will be three copies of it in boxes at the next Orwell
  10. Yes, I bought it (from Young Robin if i remember correctly) for this version BUT on tracking th'album found the version of 'Let my love bring out the woman in you' and it blew me away!!!!!!!!!! I'm sure you already know BUT Jesse Butler was the lead singer with ZZ & Co. The LP version was him re-recording the orig 45 a couple of years later! Cheers Steve
  11. Yes, the copy of Len Jewell on Mr Wood that was on JM's auction was from Paul Capon (originally owned by Charlie from London) The only other two i know of are owned by Barry Maleady & meself............that's why i was very keen to know if there were any others around as i've an obvious vested interest in it I always wondered whether Andy Dyson, Butch &/or Tim Brown had it but always forgot to ask them! btw Before i got my copy, i was offered the Paul Capon 45 a couple of years ago for £2000 (don't laugh, it's true!!) I believe the copy on JM's auction went for £364, which even for a relatively beat up copy is a bargain in my book! Wonder who won it?????? Anyone know???? Cheers Steve
  12. A few more.............70's this time! Chee Chee & Peppy - So glad you came my way - fookin brill mid tempo from an impossibly rare late 70's LP The Diddy's - 'Can't remember the title cos i'm at work' (that's not the title by the way, i really can't remember the title, will post it later when i remember it!) - 'well off the wall' 70's dancer from another tough to find late 70's LP! Jesse Butler - Let my love bring out the woman in you - another tough LP and a way better version of the former Lonnie Youngblood Modern spin!!!!! Oh and Bobby Hutton 'Lend a hand' More later Cheers Steve
  13. No takers on this boys and girls? C.B. just heard it via JM auction........so by default that must make it a toughie Anyone else????? Cheers Steve
  14. How many folk have- Len Jewell - She went her way - Mr Wood It's not an out and out dancer but is a pretty lovely mid tempo crossover mover! The beat up copy on JM's auction was the third copy i knew about BUT i'm sure there's a few more out there - come on, hands up all who have it? Cheers Steve
  15. A few from me- Lori Burton - Gonna make you love me - from her late 60's Mercury LP? Great old school Northern Soul (for want of a better description!) Or the fabulous Jazzy Bluesy Northern dancer from Della Reese - I got the blues - from her late 60's ABC LP? Or the brilliant Baby Washington Northern classic - I got it bad and that ain't good - from her Veep LP Will come back with some more later! Cheers Steve
  16. Ray Hi Ray The thread was about 70's & Crossover '3rd scene' one room venues BUT this is EXACTLY the type of stuff we're talking about that gets played at these venues Some phenomenal tunes in that lot, it's hard where to start!!! The bentinck welfare is very priveliged to have tuneage like that played imho - bet you've got folks going up and down to the decks all the time throughout your spot as there's plenty of quality stuff that's off the beaten track, so to speak Cheers Steve
  17. Aye, many a Willie tune gets played at The Orwell.................................I think 'Just another day' is well ripe for reactivation............total Yarmouth classic! Seany baby - what about that wonderful deep cut on 'Ode to my lady' LP?.........coincidentally, was only playing the LP yesterday night - had to sit down and listen to the whole thing - total classic Willie was THE man!!!! Cheers Steve
  18. Sorry, gotta disagree with you there Jason! 'Steppin' is a killer track and the version of Bessie Banks ain't half bad either. Don't want folks to get the wrong impression - worth it for those two tracks alone (and no, i ain't got any for sale!) Cheers Steve
  19. mmmmmmmmm that link looks familiar
  20. I don't think anyone's claiming to have discovered it recently................most folks know of it's plays sporadically since the mid 70's at The Mecca etc...................it's more of a recent re-discovery which is what loads of 45's are still waiting for 'Re-discovery' Seany baby, i agree, wasn't hard to get yonks ago - think i've had two or three at less than a fiver BUT not for the last five years or so! I recently traded one at £125 so I reckon £75 will be a good price to bag one today! Cheers Steve
  21. Have a Chuck Jackson - IOGTF (ABC demo same both sides)........although better to get an issue as the B side's pretty decent! Moments is LP only - don't think i've ever seen a boot 45 of this either? Cheers Steve
  22. 1st Soul 45 - Donnie Elbert - Where did our love go - UK London (1971 I think - a monster record at our youth club!!!!) Last Soul 45 - Gene Redding - Do it with love - US Haven (NOT on the LP) - a blind buy from a few minutes ago on eBay for $1 - Not heard it yet - It could be a future monster dancer, an OK ballad or a funky little mover or maybe just a pile of pants Steve Plumb
  23. www.soulmusic.co.uk Just added a few bits, removed the Sold 45's and have tweaked a fair few prices around the site! Worth another look before Christmas methinks? Cheers Steve Plumb 11th December 2006
  24. Fabbo double sider oh Poser man 'Let's get to the point' is SO right for now. Has bin going down well Wigan way of late Don't think it's so cheap though, bin a ton or so for years imho Sorry if this hurts but ya gonna have to dig deep....................saying that though 'if' anyone can find it cheap it'll be you Cheers Steve
  25. Got some good posts coming in now Particularly like the one above..................I'm sure there's a lots more of us about BUT still not enough to get us all together to make a 'truly' ATB one room venue though (imho)! Essence is the nearest but still even with all likeminded souls together in one place, Northern Soul & Soulful Garage still maketh strange bed-fellows that put the dancers into quandries, hence the lack of either extreme! BUT as this thread is about '70's & Crossover' venues..............I do buy into the idea of 'if it sounds right, then play it' though.............particularly for a night with a set genre! i.e. If it sounds like it will fit into a '70's & Crossover' type night, then it matters not if it's mid 60's (say, Sunlovers) or 2006 (say, Heart Attack). Same goes for Nu Soul/R&B venues, which very often nod back to late 70's/early 80's classics or even the Northern scene playing 'Rehab'!!!!! Cheers Steve
