  1. What about David Ruffin's super version of 'Blackmail' too? From his last hip-o select double CD - most of the unreleased tracks on there are simply awesome! Cheers Steve
  2. I missed this thread sorry! I only bought it last week from Amazon, bunging it in the shopping basket cos it was free postage, after ordering loads of stuff for the kids! Glad i did now cos there's other good stuff on it, although nowt else remotely resembling 'Northern' Cheers Steve
  3. Wasn't aware that it might not be DE? If that's the case then maybe it could be Chris Bartley as Van McCoy did loads of stuff with him in the mid/late 60's (all brill too imho!) Anyways, glad it got some debate going! I loved it when i first heard it cos I love Aretha and it's not often you hear an 'on the fours' dancer from her! I also love the song - Nice n catchy, good to dance to and written by a maestro! Cheers Steve
  4. This posting deserved a reply Dave! Really enjoyed reading it mate - many thanks for posting it Cheers Steve
  5. Are you letting me off mine too Mark
  6. Apologies if this has been mentioned before BUT isn't the track 'So Soon' a potential Northern monster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's the same Van McCoy song as done by Donnie Elbert (that was unreleased too - came out on a Joe Boy 45 a few years ago taken from an unreleased acetate). Can't recal who else has done this song off the top of my head BUT Aretha's unreleased version from her latest CD sounds the business to me? Anyone agree (or not as the case may be!) Cheers Steve
  7. Yeah, I tuned in at 10pm (it was playing fine before that on sky) and it sounded really really low - got the first 45 (Mary Moultrie on King) then it went all yucky and couldn't hear anything..........turned it off and when i tuned in again later it was as clear as a bell BUT it was Evelyn King 'I'm in love' playing! Hmmm either Mark's changed his stylee or it's a generic studio tape! Yep, you guessed it, it was Mark LOL sorry it was a tape, so obviously summat went wrong so the question is 'Where are the lost Bicknell tapes' Actually, I always had a soft spot for Evelyn, maybe you should be playing more early 80's boogie Mark? That was a joke by the way in case folks jump down me throat Look forward to NEXT Sunday then Mark? Cheers Steve

  17. I do like to balance out the 'JM auction' threads with what i consider to be a bargain and this one's no different! Wendell Watts at £186 is much lower than most dealers will have it for set sale and in my opinion is a bit of a bargain Cheers Steve
  18. That be fair enough Chris Cheers Steve
  19. Hi All I know there's been no replies on the thread BUT I've had lots of PM's about this, so I thought I'd update you all on what's happening. I've had a couple of offers at or around £500 BUT I'm afraid this is just shy of what my mate's looking for at this present time. Just for the record, one went for £800 recently but I think an offer somewhere in between may well see it nestling next to the Christmas Tree in a couple of weeks time Cheers Steve
  20. I've just burnt me master - should be able to burn them and send them all this week - so should be with you a week later than planned! btw I've still have only received about 11 or 12 so still loads to come - what date is the 'cut off then name and shame date' Chris? Cheers Steve
  21. Many thanks John Cheers Steve
  22. A friend of mine is considering 'outing' his copy of 'Where there's a will there's a way' It's in fabulous shape (although i believe there's a teeny weeny tear on the label but the vinyl is excellent) He's looking at cash only unfortunately and he ain't giving it away either! (well, you wouldn't would you?) If someone's willing to pay the 'normal' price on this 45, it could be yours for xmas! He is open to 'sensible' offers but nowt daft please! Please PM me if you're interested? Cheers Steve
  23. Hi John In your opinion, is the 1971 2nd 'monarch #85897 ' press a legal ABC repress? (presumably for the UK market cos of it's popularity at the time?) It'd be a bugger if it turned out to be a boot after all this time! Cheers Steve
  24. I have a photo at home of when i was lucky enough to find 4 copies in the early 90's. All laid out nicely in me study Got them after hearing it first played by Rod Dearlove at an early Yarmouth..............in fact one of them went to Mr Cosby if memory serves? Never had any more since though! Yep, roll on Yarmouth - cannae wait! Cheers Steve
