  1. Hi Don That was summat i did for a very short while in the mid 70's.........................along with the stupidest thing ever, an 'X' on the top side! I soon realised this was a stupid thing to do though.............Thankfully, I could only afford pressings and cheap originals at the time, so I never defaced owt rare! I remember getting that lovely 'Green' label Ebonys from a Soul Pack and only sold it cos i replaced it with a 'Gold' issue. Don't think it had an 'X' on it though? I see you played it recently at soulgalore too? Fabulous record that still sounds great now! Cheers Steve
  2. Just logged on at 4pm today and it's taken me best part of 4 hours to get thru the thread! Very interesting stuff but we shouldn't be surprised at it's popularity should we? Love him or loathe him BUT you can't ignore him! Surely a shot in the arm for Soul-Source! Good evening Ian - hope you're well mate - thanks for the mention above, can we discuss The Orwell then As it happens, yer good mate Mr Curtis did an authentic 'Last Hour of The Mecca' set at our last one and it was superb Cheers Steve

  10. Dene/Gold isn't it? used to write for Delegation & other Brit groups, that's why I assumed it was the original and promptly pulled when Aretha & Jackie wanted to record it! Uncle Tony will sort us out I'm sure As has been mentioned they are a good little group and of course their 'One more step to take' still gets plenty of spins on the Modern scene! Would loved to have seen you on them bongos mate - bet you had a little goatee and looked as cool as f**k Cheers Steve
  11. Isn't that the original version Jordi? Sure Tony R will know? Cheers Steve

  15. A tasty little tune Paul that I've heard on't radio as well as Yarmouth/The Orwell etc I also rather like the previously unreleased Northern track on the CD 'Candy from a baby' too - real driving dancer that I hope the Northern folks pick up on Cheers Steve
  16. Was just going to post this info too Wasn't he involved in one of those New York mid 70's Soul/Disco labels? Mainstream, IX Chains, Vigor, Fast Track or something like that? Or have i dreamt it? Steve
  17. Quote of the week (and I don't mean in the context of the thread, don't want to get involved in a Timmy/Johhny debate, just a funny quote!) Steve
  18. I agree Whether you were around at the time of the early bootlegs or have only recently got into collecting, this is an essential guide Also, I've used it on occasions to 'prove' to someone that the £500 rarity that they want to sell is simply a £10 boot from the 70's! John, you also need to tart it up so it makes a good companion on the shelves to the US & UK guides So when's Volume 4 due Mr M? Cheers Steve
  19. Hi Ian Hope you're well mate? Yep, the B side's a good un ain't it? Here's the blurb i wrote on first hearing it......... 'Sounds like an old record that should have been recorded by Betty Wright in the 70's! (Maybe it was?) Nice 70's style dancer with a 'Southern' feel!' Think I'll dig deeper and get some more info? Cheers Steve
  20. Gloria Shannon has beaten everyone so far (except Sean who already had it ) and they are currently winging their way to all points of the globe!!!!!! Gonna be a monster methinks? All gone now, although I've managed to grab an extra couple of copies so please email me on sales@soulmusic.co.uk to reserve one once they arrive as they won't be available on the site unless they do a repress? For those of you visiting the site, can I suggest that the Rhonda McDaniel 45 is worthy of a listen too? Came out the blue this week and it's a great double sider with a very tidy UNRELEASED version of the Shirley Wahls classic 'Why am I crying' Take the challenge at www.soulmusic.co.uk Cheers Steve

  23. Hi Mark Great show as usual mate Had to laugh last night..................at 11pm they put the wrong tape on and Norman Connors - Take it to the limit (Arista) came on. I was just thinking that it sounded great and as I remember it being a monster Modern spin back in the day and was thinking that it sounded good on the show...........when on came this DJ to announce a Jazz Funk special LOL 5 minutes later the Silhouettes came back and so did Mark Glad they got it sorted mate BUT that Norman Connors sounded great Cheers Steve
