Best, Mark
  3. Pretty certain Brantley was.based in New York. Don't know where the early Ohio Players sides were cut. Best, Mark
  4. She's cute, and I hope this serves to get younger folks into the scene, but I will stick with whatever Ace/Kent puts out. Best, Mark
  5. I think Compass was a New York operation. Best, Mark
  6. Thank you, Robb, for mentioning Cleveland in your post! In addition to Way Out, we also had the Boddie Recording family of labels (e.g, Luau), DeBrossard and maybe a couple of others. Best, Mark
  7. From two weeks ago Saturday...I hit a record show at the nearby Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland... Christine Adams-- Loneliness is Always Around (Cyclone) paid $3 Chris Bartley-- Truer Words Were Never Spoken (Vando WLP) paid $10 Imperial Wonders-- Love Coming Down (Musicor WLP) paid $15 Johnny and the Expressions-- Boys and Girls Together (Josie) paid $15...this was one record I was hoping to find, and damned if I didn't find it! Major Lance-- Ain't No Sweat (Volt WLP) paid $3 Junior Lewis-- Where Do I Go From Here (Scepter) paid $7 Lorelei-- S.T.O.P. (Stop) (Columbia WLP) paid $3 Mob-- Give It to Me (Colossus) paid $2 Magic Tones-- It's Better to Love MAH's) paid $3 Roy C.-- Gone Gone (Shout) paid $5 Ike and Tina Turner-- Gonna Have Fun (Modern) paid $1...and worth every penny! Gene West-- In the Ghetto (Original Sound WLP) paid $3...early Barry White! Donald Wilson-- Poor Man (Columbia WLP) paid $3 Best, Mark
  8. Saw one of these on Rich at the record show I visited yesterday for five bucks...I almost picked it up! Best, Mark
  9. Big regret of mine...I found not one but two copies of this, excellent condition, for $3 apiece. As the song really didn't do anything for me, I traded both copies to my friend in New Jersey. For what, I don't remember, but whatever I got, it probably wasn't a fraction of what the two records would've got me had I hung on to 'em! Best, Mark
  10. Jerry Butler is still the man as far as this tune goes, but I'm after this as I'm still collecting all Amy/Mala/Bell soul sides. Best, Mark
  11. First I'd ever heard of Frank Dell and Big Frank Murphy being the same guy...RIP and thank you for the music... Best, Mark
  12. I believe this act was previously known as the Presidents (of 5-10-15-20-25-30 Years of Love fame). Best, Mark
  13. Are these limited editions? Best, Mark
  14. Does anyone else besides me like the flip of Eloise Laws' Love Factory? I think Stay With Me is equally great! Best, Mark
  15. Well hell, I'd best be saving my pennies then? Best, Mark
  16. How about John Gary and Hang On to Me? He was a typical middle of the road singer who appeared frequently on variety shows here in the States like The Mike Douglas Show. There's a DJ over there who's spinning the Johnny Mathis version of Evil Ways, which really isn't that bad. I actually put it in my box for a gig, but never got around to playing it. Someone mentioned Mayf Nutter...he was a country singer here in the States who had a few minor country hits, but was far more recognizable as a regular on the TV series Hee Haw. Best, Mark
  17. Not Northern, but I love the Persuaders' single on Brunswick, Another Time, Another Place. It's fantastic sweet soul. Best, Mark
  18. Due to improper storage, my copy of Cynthia and the Imaginations on Blue Rock broke in two, as did my copy of Getting Mighty Crowded by Betty Everett. I also broke a promo of A New Day Begins by the Parliaments with my foot (don't ask) Best, Mark
  19. I would too, but he did use my copy! The guy DJ's rare soul in his own right every now and then. He always plays Sunny and the Sunglows on RPR, which is a big want of mine. It's great to hear that one played out. Best, Mark
  20. Still have the Citations? I have a few items here that I'm willing to trade, including a VG+ Barbara Cooper promo on RCA and a VG+ Volumes My Kind of Girl on Inferno. Let me know. Best, Mark
  21. I noted that I did take s break at one point. Since this is during the venue's Sunday brunch (they have different DJ's and styles of music every week), and I get all my drinks and food for free, I certainly do sit down and partake of one of the brunch offerings. Not to mention that I had.a couple of people, my brother and a friend of ours, pop in to see me. The place does fill up during the brunch every week. Best, Mark
  22. I don't do intros...no one who DJ's at this place does that. Glad you liked the playlist. Best, Mark
  23. Carl Burnett and Capitols were both promo copies as well. I should note...the Bobby Bland I always play (my good luck song), the Outsiders will always be played (in memory of my late friend and mentor Tom King, who was their founder and lead guitarist), and Bobby Hebb will always be played in honor of my late friend Tony Urso, who tended bar at the venue and loved Bobby Hebb's music. Best, Mark
