  1. Sorry Tone can't think of any right now, but is there any chance of you getting back on the Diane Jenkins thread? Cheers Paul
  2. No one's scribbling on my records, or LP sleeves come to that, no way! I don"t care if your'e Jean Carne, no way! PS Good luck with the new venue Dave, good to see you've got Thierry from Brussels lined up, top bloke, great modern DJ Cheers Paul 'n' Mandy
  3. Agree Them i think she's a great artist, not heard "Recycle" is this also on Creative Funk? Any one got a Creative Funk listing?
  4. Steve, In the same Black Echoes with the ad for the Oak modern soul night(14-3-81) there's an ad for an all-nighter at Brum Locarno featuring northern, funk and upstairs "Soul Sam's 70's Scene" supported by Arthur Fenn. Seems strange to me that if Sam coined the phrase then why not to use it ? While the Shrewsbury collective were! Cheers Paul
  5. No mention in the "soul harmony singles " book so that generally means a rare one. Happy hunting! Sound's wonderful Cheers Paul Woosnam
  6. Any chance of a soundfile of this spoken intro release? None of my non Soul Source mates believe there's a spoken intro version!
  7. Time to start the Go Go thread then Simon, now that you've dropped the bomb! Try to be cool y'all.
  8. With a spoken intro? My demo's dark purple vocal/inst I was assured this was original. Never seen a white. Really confused now, 'specially after I gave away a light purple demo thinking it was a boot! ........Still it went to a good home.
  9. Aye up Ken, I've still got the two LP's you sold me yers ago, one's called "First Impressions" on Trip which features "You Don't Mean It'' T'other one's just called Ohio Players on Pickwick Neither feature "Love slipped......" Don't suppose this helps much oh well Cheers Paco
  10. Not 100% sure on this but aren't the paler "demo" copies boots? The original's are a darker purple Cheers Paul Woosnam PS I'm confused 'bout this spoken intro business.
  11. Good enough for me Simon
  12. Er yes Steve had you mentioned that I would have worded my reply somewhat differently Still believe the Shrewsbury collective coined the phrase tho'. I'm sure they were using the term prior to the ad in Black Echoes but didn't want to mention it because I don't have any documented evidence, which is what Simon's after. Unfortunately none of them are on 'ere to put their case. I'll try and do some "research" later. Are you in touch with Sam? Would be worth asking him I think (maybe better not to mention computer forum's tho'!!!) Cheers Paul
  13. Hi Steve, I'm sure if Martin were on this forum he would confirm that Soul Sam DID NOT ,coin the pharse "modern soul ". In the article you have so kindly re printed the term does not crop up once! I'm sure he mentioned it to you in conversation, but I believe it's a term he picked up whilst DJing in Shrewsbury! Rather than Soul Sam inventing modern soul I would go so far as to say modern soul re-invented Soul Sam! Cheers Paul Woosnam
  14. DJ line up; Soul Sam-Pip-Kipper-Dave+Andy G and the Dave Thomas roadshow This was basically the line up for all the night's with Richard Searling alternating with Sam. Also the late Steve Plimmer would play a selection of mecca/70's oldies. Pip,Kipper,Dave&Andy+Steve were also known as "The Shrewsbury Collective" and DJed at later modern 'dayers and nights in the north west. Simon you've met Kipper yourself at various weekenders/gigs hes the one bothering you about wether Bobby Tayler records got a US release or not! Unfortunately I can't scan these ad's but if you PM your address I can post them to you. Cheer's Paul PS Do you really need your grandkids to tell you you're a boring old git Mr Bridge? Thought this was common knowledge PPS Simon on the same page as the Oak ad (14-3-81) is Richard Searlings Wigan allnighter top 20 1 "Feel It"-Revelation (Handshake 12) 3 "Hung up on loving You"-Will Collins(12-mix) 4 "Your Love Keeps Me Dancing"-Lee Moore(Source) 5 "I've Got My Secound Wind"-Tata Vega(Motown LP) 6 "Giving My Love To You"-Esther Williams(Pip Int)...,Cheryl Burdell I believe. etc etc
  15. Hi Simon, I have a copy of Black Echoes March 14 1981 which has an advert for a modern soul night at the Oak hotel in Shrewsbury (where I believe the term originated) The following issue (March 21 1981) contains the same advert next to an ad for the Clifton hall, no mention of modern soul in the Clifton hall ad. Modern soul nights @ the Oak began in October 1980 and continued on an irregular basis untill 83/84 with local DJ's plus Soul Sam or Richard Searling as guest's. Playing mostly new releases and rare recent ones. Cheer's Paul Woosnam PS Did Facey come from Shrewsbury Mr Bridge?
  16. Ah Ken, the voice of reason. Never thought I'd say that 'n' I bet he never thought it either! Alcohol, the most destructive drug there is (hic)
  17. According to "Soul Harmony Singles" no. Cheers Paul Woosnam
  18. He's been back on the scene, did you miss it?
  19. Wasn't it some kind of talent contest with the winner's getting a record put out? Mid 80's kinda time or have I got this horribly mixed up after too many bud's?
  20. That's our Lucy!!! Cheer's P&M
  21. My Kellee Paterson reisue/boot LP recorded in LA, cover design Chicago My Doug Carn ''Revelation'' LP recorded in New York, overdub's Chicago, mastering Minneapolis! Confused? I know I am, but then again I usually am. Is the Chicago connection to do with distributer Ovation records? And why's my mate Dave (Black Jazz collecter) not on this thread?!
  22. Just dug out my Kellee Paterson "Maiden Voyage" LP and both track's on there rest of the LP very good too. It's a reissue LP from '98 legal I think as it has Black Jazz adress & website clearly stated, nice "heavy' piece of vinyl too! Did she do anything else on the label? Cheer's Paul Woosnam P.S. I'm after Doug 'n' Jean Carns "Little B's Poem" on 45 anyone?
  23. I'll put it on my want's list, or at least 'ave a listen to list. Alway's liked her "Turn on the light's" from her Shady Brock day's. Was a Mecca/Ritz spin?
