Hi soulfulfella, and thanks for ressurecting my thread !!!
Is that the same "Hold On To it" record as Barry Smith ? Sorry cant remember the label right now or if Mr D had owt to do with it:unsure:
Cheers Paul
Same group according to "Soul Harmony Singles" book Andrew
The Phil LA of Soul release dates from 1969 whereas the 20th Century release is from "68
A Soul Bowl "front pager" for a couple of quid (on 20th Cent) back in the day, would think its rarer on Uptight but don't know for sure.........nice tune
Cheers Paul
Flipsides called "Go On".............remember Richard Searling playing it @ Newcastle dayer 79/80 after being requested for 'My World....." and introducing it as a much more soulful record. Its also on the flip of the "soul galore" boot
Me I love both sides....................but then I"m easily pleased
Cheers Paul
I would say you got a bargain with Brenda Lee Eager, seen it on sale for 30/40 quid a few times.................mind you I'd say its a snip at 30/40 cos its such a fantastic record.
Cheers Paul
Hope it is an interview with the great man Mrs Maine...........................he stayed in the hotel that Mrs Shrews works a couple of years ago when he toured with "a" Funk Brothers band.
He was really up for talking about the ole days and didn't mind Mrs Shrews grilling him about pied piper productions etc at all.
Do you know if we can listen outside Uk ?
Cheers Paul
Mark, my copy of the Billy Butler 45 spells Lose with 2 O's as in "loose" how chinstrokingly interesting is that
Fantastic record if you ask me and a snip at 6 quid. One of those records that will give you a lifetimes listening pleasure for less than a pack of smokes
Cheers Paul
Hi sunnysoul, I"ve got the "83 Dutch 45 too, have you noticed how the song title is spelt on the sleeve and label?
"Let No Man Put Us Under"
Not sure if there was a US 45 release, Mr Dewhirst is sure to know I would have thought
Cheers Paul
Only have the Paula one not the Contempo so cant compare soulkev, sorry. Just got the idea in my head that the Contempos better sound
There is a longer version (and better sound) Paula re-release which credits another song but plays "Hung Up....."
Cheers Paul
Dorothy Moore made number 1 on the pop charts didn't she ?
Think the Montclairs may well be better sound quality than the Paula one as well so nice one parkash
Cheers Paul
Remember paying 2 quid for Rodger Collins "Sexy Sugar Plumb"after being told by a mate "you wont see many more again" at the time it was "big" tho I was far too young to be going to nighters at the time.
Was pleased to see the record made the UK charts a few weeks later.................still love it tho
Cheers Paul
Yes Rod, tho Trouble Funk and Chuck Brown played sellout gigs in London back in the mid 80s and go-go was a mainstay on dj"s playlists there(London) for a couple of years.
But you"re right it hardly broke through pop like hip hop did
Cheers "good to go" Paul
Thing is jinx74 , Mark Res probably does like this stuff check out his web site www.resolutionrecords.co.uk
Thing is Mark Res , jinx74 has sold non soul stuff on here before
Peace guys its all good.....................I'm interested to know whats on the Pharoah Sanders LP fer sure............but then again y'all know I'm twisted
Cheers Paul Thi
