  1. Though he can't resist the accent.
  2. Does anybody else think that the Velvet Satins - Nothing Can Compare, sounds like Tom Jones' It's Not Unusual at the beginning?
  3. Why do people get so irritable when someone asks a simple question. The guy is a writer, and wants to write. He's asked three questions in a forum where he thinks there'll be people willing to help, and half his replies are totally negative. What's wrong with people? It's times like this I really hate this site.
  4. I always thought Might Joe Drake - Try Try Try sounded as though it was prematurely faded out. At 1.50, it's a short one.
  5. Thanks for that. Need to re-boot my memory every now and then to get it all back in order.
  6. I'm kind of with you. Watched it for the first time on Friday. Didn't think it was as horrendous as some people make out. If you take it for what it is, a light hearted boy meets girl film, it isn't really that bad. If you're looking for a full on, true to life, Northern Soul docu-drama, then it's not for you.
  7. Just out of interest, can anybody put a date to when this was played?
  8. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have had this tune in my head since the 1970's and never knew what it was. Sorry, totally off topic - but a life changing moment, ha ha
  9. Ok, here's my Barry Norman bit. I think a lot of people on here are looking for a documentary, to suit them, rather than a story. It's a tale about a boy who finds Northern Soul and follows him through the ups and downs (no pun intended) that it leads him to. The makers tried to make it look as authentic as possible, and I think they did really well. If the storyline hadn't gone down the drugs route, it would be something else that certain people couldn't relate to. Not everyone went barmy on drugs, just as not everyone found love at Wigan Casino. Certain parts at the beginning of the film really gave me goosebumps - almost like looking at myself. Good choice of music in my opinion. Anybody seen Spike Island? Similar sort of thing, different era. I thought the Northern Soul Movie was better. And why not . . .
  10. That's cool, tell them to bring the popcorn.
  11. Broadway Cinema Nottingham, Sunday 19th. Anybody going? Or have I got the place to myself?
  12. Have I got it right? Is this film only being screened for one day only at most venues? If so, it's unlikely that it'll spark anything other than memories for those people who are already into it, as they'll be the only ones catching it. Confused Graham
  13. That's one for the "Show Us Your Bird" thread.
  14. Oh yes, another great track. It's exactly the tune I was thinking of when Kjw mentioned "Blue Note" in post 25. I have this on a Live At The Blue Note album.
  15. I'll never forget the bass player in Lonnie Liston Smith's band - awesome! If I knew how to post videos I'd put "Expansions" here.
  16. That's the one !
  17. That piano at the start is reminding me of something else. Or perhaps it was sampled. Any ideas anyone?
  18. Daftest thing. I just tried it for the first time ever. Found one of my own records!
  19. Thanks for that. I think I've found the thread you're refering to. I've just sold a vocal to it by Ede Robin. Also, just found the same tune on the same label entitled Soul Over Easy. All new to me!
  20. Chocolate Sugar- Berry Street Sugar on LeCam. I have this record which is basically, Sons Of Moses' Soul Symphony. However, looking around the internet, the same record elsewhere, plays a totally different funky organ instrumental. Anyone know the story here?
  21. It's probably Ibuprofen for the knees nowadays.
  22. Is it definitely a different vocalist, or just a different take Pete? I've only ever heard the one version, that being the one on the British Capital issue (re-issue?)
  23. Didn't know that either!
