  1. Aaah I see. Quite a turnover!
  2. Simple question to anyone. Where does he get them?
  3. I have to say, I find this side of the scene a bit bemusing. As I remember it, towards the end of the seventies, a lot of the Northern crowd started getting into the funkier side of soul music, and before you knew it, the jazz funk scene was born, and the two scenes were quite seperate, though shared venues quite often. On another note, I read with great interest on Chalky's site that Richard Searling played You Can't Hide Your Love by David Joseph at Stafford. What was going on there??!!
  4. When you think about it though, it's a good way of passing the music on to the next generation.
  5. Totally agree! Now, is it just me that defines a good DJ/set as one that plays records that get my feet tapping and (God forbid nowadays) even dancing. Yes I want to hear new/rare stuff if it's good. I want to hear tunes new to me, but I also want a bit of familiarity. The biggest name DJ can stand there with his, rare as rocking horse shit, unheard, underplayed, £800 original vinyls. But if it don't float my boat, he don't get my vote. (Poetry unintentional).
  6. I agree. The ones I had were of poor quality too. A certain chap in Nottingham was knocking them out in the seventies. The soul police never questioned him at all. Corrupt, that's what I say. ha ha.!
  7. Is there a market for stuff like this. I'm sure I have something similar gathering dust somewhere. Any acetate freaks out there?
  8. Who's Ted Massey? Been wanting to say that for months.
  9. That's it now, I'm following you as THE authority on soul music. Nolan Porter, If I Could Only Be Sure. Do we like this?
  10. Thanks for that. Quite a nice track too. Why can't we just chuck them in with the other stuff and do away with all the demarkation lines? That question is not necessarily aimed at you Len.
  11. Help me out here. Can someone name a track or two that you would class as Modern Soul. Again, as someone said earlier, a genuine question, not sarcasm.
  12. BLUE NILE!!!?! Now I'm gobsmacked!
  13. That was the first one that sprung to my mind too. It grew on me very quickly though. Also, He Broke Your Game Wide Open, Frank Dell.
  14. Kylie's version is a lot cheaper . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I'll get me coat.
  15. I remember buying some singles from Oldies Unlimited when I very first started buying vinyl. I don't know how I acquired the catalogue!
  16. It's a fair point. Perhaps I'm just not going to the right places.
  17. I can't see the Northern Soul scene living on for long (I mean after our generation) with records so highly priced. What young person would want to start collecting original vinyl, with anything decent / popular going for hundreds of pounds.
  18. It's called empire building. Mr Manship has created his own price guide (based on what?), and then sells records accordingly. I'm guessing he lets people know continually, what has been sold, and how much for. It just snowballs. Right or wrong, it works.
  19. Absolutely love that record, viral or not!
  20. Just searched "The Spy" on Youtube. Haven't heard it in ages, probably since the Palais!! You've brought even more memories flooding back with the CB thing. Happy (but strange) days!
  21. I quote Ted Massey - "Who's Grayman 45?" - Never did quite get what he was getting at.
  22. Got an old settee in leather, shaped like a foot . . . Is it a boot?
  23. How silly? I can put up with a wobbly chair for the right price, ha ha.
  24. Strangely enough, one of the ones I have is the De-lites - on a demo no less! Must be worth thousands.
