  1. Can any of you help me find some old mates who were all in the army at some time (and one Navy chap). I need them for my 50th Birthday Party! Knocker Cole (Andrew) originally from Stroud - disappeared off the scene when he went into the army. We used to travel all over together Gary Summersgill - ex RHA (Bramcote, Kings Troop, Kirton in Lindsey etc) Sorry not an army type so don't know all the right technical terms for the places!!! Was a PT instructor, chef, horseman - in fact always seemed to be taking on new things Gary Steele from Barnsley - was at Tidworth for a while. Last seen at Trentham Gardens a few years ago. Ginge Halvey - ex Navy - last known working in Thailand but believe he's back now. Features dancing on a famous record cover! cheers Judy
  2. Hi Dave I remember you from the Aldershot days (I used to live in Winchester). You should take a trip over to one of Derek's Bisley events and see all the old crowd - many still dragging themselves onto the dance floor too! Regards Judy
  3. Cheers Also a great of version of "I've Got Something Good" that ran I've got some rice pud!
  4. First heard Shop at Tesco from Rowland (Oxford) at Wigan in 1976. Also remember a song we called 'Tina's feet' (It's the beat?). Now it's got in my brain and I keep hearing it - still not sure what it's actually called!
  5. A blue tile from the ladies toilets in Mr Ms and my Wigan membership (signed by the Exciters) and, of course, a fantastic network of friends and acquaintances across the UK (the world) who get the same fantastic, spine tingling, heart clenching, foot tapping, dance inspiring experience every time we hear one of our tunes!
  6. Yes, its is Gilly and Tony, others are Mark Bray from Camberley, and Craig from Shrewsbury (Manchester).
  7. Hi I need to find some old mates to invite them to my 50th birthday bash in October - anyone know the whereabouts of ... Knocker (Andrew) Cole from Stroud - went into the Army last thing I heard Gary Summersgill - another ex-army chap Gary Steele - Yorkshire lad Dave Stokes from Urmston
  8. I have some that I always thought were the Brit - bad scans below
  9. I loved this place ... used to come up from Reading. Seem to remember it was on a hill with lots of trees around - was it a dance school? The drive up was great too and my friend Kate reckoned the lights of Sheffield spelled out SOUL - couldn't see it myself! Fantastic dance floor and great crowd.
  10. Tony is one of the coolest folk on the planet - his glide over the dance floor was mesmerising. Great guy too. When I first started on the scene I loved to watch the backdrops, spins and 'cleaning the floor with hankie' moves executed in time with the music (not the random 'look at me' stuff you see often these days) - I know I'm an old fogey. One of the best was Steve Gully from Southampton.
  11. I had a strange 'James' experience ... I lived in Reading and was working in London and whilst walking down Regent Street one afternoon was aware that someone was following me - having already had an unpleasant experience with a weirdo in the underground I was nervous and kept walking faster - but so did the stalker ... I waked faster and so did he ... suddenly I was tapped on the shoulder and a smiley faced James said "Hi! I thought it was you". Although I didn't actually know him to speak to I did recognise him by his coat and the square packpack he used to have at St Ives. How he recognised me out of context (business suit etc) and in a crowded street in London I will never know! We had a brief exchange of pleasantries eg what are you doing here (he was buying records) and then went on our ways ... I don't ever remember seeing him again.
  12. Only a measley 297 - but some great membership bingo numbers at Yate!
  13. That was me!!!!!! And this is my first try at a post so hope it comes out all right! Wrong county though - it was a little village in Hampshire! And let's just say Tim got a bargain as I had no idea what it was!!! I do remember the find - crouched down under a table with all the late 60s and early 70s pop was 3 or 4 'possibles' which I bought on the off chance. All those weekends with the lads at record fairs must have had some effect.
  14. Katie from Huntingdon - is sooo cool! Once did a spin at Peterborough in a dress with a full circle skirt - skirt got caught on someone and it came off at the waist. What did she do? ... continued the spin down to the ground and got someone to fetch a coat! Hate talc on the floor - get a proper pair of dance shoes for god's sake! Hate 'tourists' with beer and their partner dancing in the middle of the dance floor who don't seem to notice that what they're doing is unusual or understand the etiquette. Love the scene though and wouldn't have missed the last 30 years for anything
