  1. I must admit I went on a fair ramble there, it just frustrates me how people expect you to be a certain way if you ride a scooter or listen to northern. Then they look t you like your a fake because you dont live up to the stereotype.
  2. The problem is most "normal people" cant comprehend thats there is so much depth and more to the scene than just baggy trousers and talcum powder. Theres only so many conversations you can get into with people who either take the piss or have no clue. You get a completely different response when you say "rare soul", people who have a clue will be interested, the divs wont. So instead of people with half a clue on northern soul taking the piss, you will most likely end up in a reasonably intelligent conversation or no conversation at all. Its just as bad when I tell people about riding a Lambretta, a typical response is "so your a mod" or "do you have lights and mirrors". No I dont, and no I am not! I dont wear a parka either, it's not safe! I like rats, rustorations, street racers and cutdown. But people still cant get past lights and mirrors, no wonder people wore t-shirts with "im not a fucking mod" printed on them. Yes people are more aware of subcultures nowadays, but they are only aware of the stereotype. And there lies the problem for most people on all the scenes, they have grown past the stereotypes and the more people associate people with them, the less they want to be associated. It's like the original mods, when mod went big, most of the top mods called themselves stylists to disown the masses.
  3. ODMO Original Dance Moves Only, if you cant do the moves from 1969-1974 you will have to find a more suitable venue...
  4. I am now expecting loads of "Dancers Only" nights, in wich there is a dance floor and no music!
  5. I know what you mean, ive bought a few records that now dont do much for me. But, that is a rarity! Just the sheer number of quality tracks out there is unreal, it's a real joy just to keep finding all these tracks never mind owning them. I normally listen to an album till I know every word of every song and I normally then need want to buy 7/10, hence the reason why list keeps growing!
  6. But these lads are massively into music (break beats/rave), not just your average clubbers. Maybe that has a bearing on why they like a few tracks?
  7. I only play people the odd track every now and then, but what they've heard they quite liked. Some people get it, others dont. Simple as. The ones who get it are quite impressed with the record collecting thing and DJing. Tracks that seem to go down well are; East Coast Connection - Summer In the Parks The Notions - Superpeople Skull Snaps - I'm Your Pimp Curtis Mayfield - Do Do Wap Is Strong In Here/Move On Up/Most of his stuff is great and seems to be liked. Silvetti - Spring Rain Sliced Tomatoes Alot of these have quite a contemporary sound, and lyrics which I think appeals. Especially the Curtis stuff. To most on here they will be classics, but, if you've never listened to soul it's a different story.
  8. As a 19 year old, I say rare soul. My likes have moved away from just the trad northern soul tag, so "rare soul" is more suited. But, tbh, alot of younger lads I know who are big into break beats and drum and bass (which I also like, despite never know what I am listening too lol) do really quite like a lot of the mecca/cleethorpes/Curtis Mayfield type tunes when ive played them o them.
  9. ...So Little Money... Maybe I should stop buying new CDs to listen too, each time I do the list of wants goes up tenfold! No real point to this post, just the sheer amount of quality soul music out there is so vast even on the cheaper end I cant even make a dent in the wants list. Even when I pick up my priority wants, it keeps me satisfied for a few weeks then on to the next few. But I suppose that why collecting becomes a bit of an obsession. Haha.
  10. I am also after; Cant Stay Away From You - The Fascinations If I Was A Kid - Billy Kennedy
  11. Cheers Steve, wish I could find tunes like this just in boxes haha...
  12. I thought so, just needed a grown up to confirm. What is the going rate for the album? Cheers
  13. Really liking this song at the moment, cant seem to find a 45 of it online. Is it album only? Cheers
  14. Didnt pick up a copy, does any one have a decent copy going? Please PM with price and condition. Thanks,
  15. Yeah, I guess your right. I just had a quick scan over the article to be honest, but the impression I got was they weren't all that aware of the mod thing. They aren't bad, but I can take them or leave them. Dont think they are particularly amazing.
  16. They were in scootering the other month... They didnt seem to seem all that interested in the Mod thing surprisingly.
  17. Like I say, please let me know what kind of price and condition. Might be easier if I get them all in one hit, let me know how you get on Pete?
  18. Just too add, as some of these came out on 12" disc, I am only really interested in the 7" versions.
  19. The Niteliters - K-Jee Marboo - What About Love Black Nasty - Cut Your Motor Off East Coast Connection - Summer In The Parks Jobell & The Orchestra De Salsa - Never Going To Let You Go And to a lesser degree the boot of Skull Snaps - Im Your Pimp Please PM with price and condition, no daft offers. Cheers Jordan
  20. The record arrived today as promised. It plays great, many thanks! Top guy! Really appreciate it!
  21. The Parliaments - What Have You Been Growing Thats got some far out lyrics, escpecially the Mary, Mary bit.
  22. I dont really know, and I am not going to pipe up some far fetched story either. All I can say, is it will be played, enjoyed , well looked after and out a smile in my face. Jordan
  23. No I dont Pete. I didn't think tbe OVO police powers stretched to my own bedroom :O
  24. I want to listen to it at home on my record player, as this is hooked up to a great quality sound system... I think the song is great, but cant justify the £200 price tag.
  25. The original seems to go for stupid money, is there any quality 're-issues out there?
