This is what I posted today on The Soul Toon FB page most people on here know what my previous employment was for 26 years and those who know me know I am meticulous in anything I do. I made my decision to cancel on a number of issues yes fiancé was a concern, but not on a personal level, no one likes to loose money, I can live with the money I have lost to cancel, but my biggest concern was the people who travel far and wide to attend my events, they have booked hotels train tickets etc etc, cancelling sooner rather than later will hopefully prevent anyone else loosing money. I am not saying other promoters should follow suit far from it, this is my decision for my event and I now feel comfortable that I have made this decision. Take care everyone lets hope nothing is enforced Cheers Paul

The test pressings I have been involved with have been a max of ten which usually arrive at least 6 to 7 weeks prior to delivery I have never been asked if I want more or less copies I took it as the norm receiving ten no more no less I have never sold any I give them away for others who listen to stuff for me and Paul Mooney the reason being very often when you constantly listen to a track to see if it's OK you sometimes cant see the woods for the trees if you know what I mean and having fresh ears and opinions helps us It has never crossed our minds to exploit test pressings and to be honest why press more if you intend to press the track anyway will it not cost the label more???? in my opinion yes why take the chance of being out of pocket , but everyone's different I must agree with Chalky seems to be a money making venture out to exploit Don't often raise my head above the parapet so fire away lol Cheers Paul

Newbeats.....'crying My Heart Out'.....'non Grata' These Days?
Paul Conroy replied to a topic in Look At Your Box
Don't know how I have missed this thread must be an age thingy, re Crying my heart out is my number 1track of all time event thought it nevers get played nowadays, why is it my fav track as it was around 73ish age 13 in Felling Youth Club or Leam Lane Methodist youth club this is where I first heard it blew me away and lead me on my long life passion with all forms of Soul Music. When it was first played on scene I have no idea but what I can say when this track was played at those two youth clubs lads who are on Soul Source nowadays where dancing to it and I was told there were 'Northern Souler's' Cheers Paul Conroy -
The latest in an occasional series of 'looks' at northern/rare soul clubs/events... Paul Conroy has passed on the latest Soul Toon news for the rest of 2015... The Lancastrian suite Gateshead is home to Soul Toon Alldayers and Allnighters Alldayers are lined up here at the Fed in the "Soul Toon" for April 11th and the summer sees a August 1st event. But as well as the alldayers we will also be holding on Saturday 23rd May our inaugural Northern Soul Allnighter! All three events will consist of three rooms Northern Soul in The Lancastrian Suite, Modern Soul in The Ramside Suite and 60's newies and underplayed via The Ramside Suite. All three rooms will consist of National DJ's such as Richard Searling, Ginger Taylor, Sean Chapman, Nige Brown, Roger Banks, Horse Mick H, Andy Dyson Terry Jones to name a few amiably assisted by North East Djs Davy Mason, Toma, Harry Crosby and Tonge and guests. Since the inception of the Soul Toon Alldayers they have gone from strength to strength attracting travellers' nationwide from Brighton, Newquay, London, Nottingham, Manchester, Yorkshire to Edinburgh, Dundee, Glasgow and Aberdeen with attendances being over 1000 On May 23rd this year there will be the first Northern Soul Allnighter at the venue! It has been many years since the last allnighter on Tyneside and has taken over 20 years of persuasion but the management finally relented, so fingers crossed it will be a huge success and will hopefully pave the way for many more at this outstanding venue All the best Paul Conroy Alldayer Info Allnighter Info ?do=embed' frameborder='0' data-embedContent> ?do=embed' frameborder='0' data-embedContent>

I know it has been mentioned on previous page re her denying singing this, what I know is I helped put Candi on Newcastle few years back and we were chatting whilst driving back to her hotel and my mate Toma put a cd on with this track and he asked her the history behind it, Candi told us both at first she never recorded it and it was not her singing, but as the conversation went on she also said she was sure she didn't record it but if she did she couldn't recall doing it, Cheers Paul

Joe When the producers came to The Cricket Club and we were talking to them about the programme it was very apparant very little research had been done and when the innacuracies were pointed out we knew they wer'nt bothered, why ??? probs cause the script had already been written and approved and they could'nt change anything at that stage, might be wrong though, never mind

Not too sure about Si King going to Wigan, bearing in mind he was born in 1967, bit too young me thinks, Not sure about him being on the Northern Scene either, particually up here on Tyneside , may be wrong though, just I cannot recall ever seeing him untill he was on the Telly, must admit I do like the two of them amd they are very good entertainment If am wrong about Si King nee probs

A couple of months ago Toma had the Cricket Club on in Gateshead, DJing were Davy Mason and Matty Turner, anyway one of the producers of this programme came along with a wardrobe woman and asked for extra's for the show, as it was to be filmed in Hartlepool later that month, it was so funny as we were nearly all in our 50's and we were all measured up for costumes, our names and mobile taken and we were all told if we received a call we would be in the show, needless to say I know no one from that night that is in the episode. Can you inamgine the expense with makeup and CGI effects to make us lot teenagers again would have busted the whole of the BBC's budget!!!!!!!!!!!! It was mentioned by quite a few of us that if the episode was set in 1968, Northern as they knew it was in it's infancy and that the fashions they were expecting was'nt worn untill the 70's, it sort of fell on deaf ears, I did tell the wardrobe woman I still had some 40'' in the house and could still get into them, she looked quite surprised, and said 'if your picked will you wear them' I said 'yeah but would'nt it be a bit strange me on wearing them with the bottom of one trouser leg's round me waist!!!' it did'nt go down well Am sure there are a load of photographs some where of us all being measured i'll try and dig them out and post them

Articles: Colin Curtis - Too much to Swallow.
Paul Conroy replied to Stevesilktulip's topic in Front Page News & Articles
I was gong to try and keep out of this but never mind, I am the promoter of The Swallow in Gateshead and I knew before booking Colin what format he would be playing from, when I first booked Colin it took him some persuding to do so because of that issue, so why persevere to book him The night is an nostagia night and for many years people up here have had to travel hundreds of mile to get to venue and listen to 'Big Name' DJ's, and others, some people for what ever reason cannot travel any more, and it was those who made me change my direction of booking DJ's approx a year ago, people mentioned to me 'It would be great to see Colin Curtis up here' or 'When was the last time Colin Curtis was up here' and that applied to the others i have booked Kev Roberts, Chris King ,Carl & Maria Richard Searling etc etc etc The night is a nostagia night 5 times a year not a progressive ( done it got the t-shirts) and it 's working well people are well chuffed ( so they tell me) and the dance floor is rammed all night with all the DJ's I put on. I was and only have been spoken to by one person who did not like Colin playing CD's and i respect thier point of view, ow I hear there were loads complaining, well if they were they never said it to me, in fact it was the opposite the amount of people who asked me to get Colin back was a hell of lot more than one , he had the dance floor rocking. At the end of the day to me am too old to fight about what format the music is played on just enjoy ( or not) the night and the choons we love or hate All the best Paul Conroy -

Articles: Best Soul Nights in the North East Ever
Paul Conroy replied to Stevesilktulip's topic in Front Page News & Articles
God how many nights have there been in the North East, too many to answer, must admit the Dunelm house All dayers were brilliant and the nighter, Aycliffe all nighters were class to and if i recall correctly it was the only nighter that was running when the Torch Closed before Wigan opened or something like that correct me if am wrong, The Mayfair in the Toon on a Sunday night was very influencial for me met people who I made lifetime frienships with, Me Toma, Davy Mason and Matty Turner ran the Broadway Ballroom in Gateshead in the 80's, mini Wigan but the choons were way ahead of it's time and the DJ's who came Gary Spence, Pat Brady Dave Evison, Marc Bicknell to name a few , the place had a unique atmosphere for a Soul Night that was only on to 12 but we had a following from Scotland, North West and midlands who travelled regually , the place even got on Dave Evisons Millenium Calender . Am still putting do's on with the lads today and the places we have had since, Arts centre, The Fed and even now The Swallow all good places and well attended, but for some reason not sure why, The Broadway has always been me fav place i'll try and post up some photo's of place -
