  1. if rob and karen have had an disagreement surely the rest of the midnight hour team have got to thrash it out with pontins and try and get them back on board I hope they dont leave them stranded, pontins must make loads on these out of season weekenders, and I have always enjoyed them especially the showcases anybody know the reasons yet??
  2. DJ Honky - thanks for the memories great compilation donation going to cancer research john m - have you got Itunes??? open up the disc in there if you have and the tracklistings come up
  3. Rob Wrigley might be the one to answer this - remember asking him at one of the weekenders and him sayin "Just to much to bring em across", I am sure if it was within range Dickie would have put them on before now, I am like the rest of the board just the best act I have ever seen, although The Masqueraders on the Saturday Afternoon at Prestatyn runs a very close second still a cryin shame the promoter lost money on the dells, £125 to see Led Zepplin??? I should coco
  4. good starting off point would be Eddie Pillars Crossover soul meets Northern soul CD in which there are some cracking salsoul tunes on there
  5. best live act of recent years for me was Bobby Hutton singing "Lend a hand" at Prestatyn, the vocal was good, but approx 1500 people actually clapped in the right places which to me elevated the performance tenfold I still Listen to Pete Smiths mp3 of Gloria Jones tainted Love what he taped at wigan about 74-75 which he put on site last year to really appreciate what a atmospheric soul night should sound like, I know we are getting old and another post mentions Beer which adds to the malaise, but queing up at the entrance and hearing soul claps to a great record you just knew you were attending a proper soul night
  6. you have to respect his determination, but to avoid the "samey" feel to a lot of the tracks he should have drafted in another producer with a couple of different ideas and tempos, ("footsteps following me" wasnt a on the 4's bouncer) surely he has contacts stateside, --- paul riser or clay macmurray anyone?? quite agree with the vocalists though they are spot on
  7. Love this to bits!!
  8. one room playing 40 years of soul has got to come, probably hung my soul boots up by the time it comes mind you but Anne nesby to Cody Black sounds fine to me dont you just admire artists who have changed the sound over the years to keep up with the times, the dells didnt go up to Sonny sanders in 81 and say All about the paper? no we cant record that we are into the sixties stuff we did for chess Dells, Tymes, melvin davis, frankie beverley, you could play any of those in northern or Modern rooms and I admire all their back catalogue not just a small part of it, they have had to adapt for longevity and I think we should as a few people have said we are not getting younger
  9. just a word of thanks - heard records that took me me back "Bettye swann- heading in the right direction" - fantastic and both Doris Duke records you played were the business this community radio is as usual at ground level - I despise the word "Corporate" in all its guises steve manchester

  18. seconded, you have to remember he produced and arranged a few records for other people as well alongside luminaries such as Carl Davis, Sonny Sanders, Tom Tom Washington and Otis Leaville. A chicago legend
  19. Dells v the Dramatics John Edwards on Aware 1973 Johnny Taylor just aint good enough David ruffins unreleased Cd from last year cant take any of these off while playin

  21. Trouble is its not just a sample its nearly the complete chorus, she has a good voice but to have your first album written and backed up by the cream of miami muscians I am afraid the only way is down get to philly and detroit quick girl for another 2 albums
  22. eddy apparently you can get it from Mike Ward who lives in Sheffield I am sorry but I haven't his address but i should imagine it will be available in the usual outlets soon - it really is that good
  23. mike terry came on soulful detroit forum about 3 years ago and said its time to make some more music, so after doing a clenched fist yeees! and posting a couple more e-mails to him I haven't heard a word since, only redeeming thing is that he does know that the northern part of this fair isle thinks he is a musical genius which I bet confuses him no end - Mike Randle did a great interview with him in one of the great fanzines Mr Pearsons or Mr Rimmers (sorry lads I dont know which) about 9 years ago
  24. anybody got any info on the belita woods sam is playing at the moment will these detroit gems ever dry up, they just seem to be getting better imo
