  1. It all began back in Derby in 1971, listening to the music that a freinds older brother was into. Turned out he was going to a club in Tunstall called the Torch. Sadly it closed almost as soon as I had heard of it. So, off we went to The Brit, in Nottingham. From then onto Wigan casino, Blackpool Mecca, Samantha's, Nottingham Palais All-dayers, Cleethorpes, the list goes on. I even gave up a job because the wanted me to work late on Friday, and Friday was Brit night, end of !!!
  2. I'd just like to support what Boba is saying in that this is very much a personal perspective and opinion thing. He has his views. At the same time Pete S has his own opinions. Both of these are equally valid. It seems to me that we concentrate on the negative rather than the positive. It would be nice if, just for once, if we focused on the tracks we like, rather than the tracks we are less appreciaitve of, and respected each others points of view. .
  3. Hi Boba, I know that there will always be some sounds liked and some sounds not liked, but i'm really pleased you gave your time and listened. Thanks.
  4. Hi Boba, A message from a friend. " I never said the Jones Girls were from Chicago, I said THAT song was. It was produced by Richie Tufo and recorded in Chicago. So were their songs on Curtom. David Ruffin and Jimmy Ruffin came from Mississippi, but it didn't stop their songs being from Detroit. That song is bloody PURE Chicago." I hope you were able to get the player working again and listen to the full podcast. Best regards
  5. Put your prejudices aside and give this lot a listen. I'm sure everyone WILL find something they love.
  6. I can see that both you and Ian have, what could be called "differences of opinion". That in itself is no bad thing. Your views are no more, or indeed less relevant than his, however he is denied this platform to respond to your criticism. Please do not infer that Ian has no knowledge of soul music. That is just insulting and rightly belongs back in the playground. That said, I would indeed be pleased to listen, with respect, to any podcast you may like to post. I have an open mind, across the board policy when it comes to soul music. KTF
  7. I have listened to all the podcasts Ian has posted and whilst some of his choices are not to my taste, they are exactly that, HIS choices. I am astounded that some people see a need to condemn the choices of others. Everyone has a right to their own opinion, whether that is right or wrong is merely a matter of perspective. I have enjoyed our music in it's many forms, and on balance, have a lot to thank Ian Levine for. The fact that he is "Banned" is quite immature. I thought we were all grown ups here. It seems I was wrong.
  8. Any time, any place, anywhere. You simply can't beat a bit of Bobby.
  9. Corrina Greyson and her band
  10. Reading that was just like time travel !!!!
  11. Just listened to the whole thing. Some great tracks on there. Some others that Ian obviously enjoys, not to my tastes but hey that's fine. I like that he takes the tempo on a journey too. Nice one Ian, I'm looking forward to the next.
  12. I remember the Sunday All-dayers in '72-'74 ish, I think they were mostly organised by the WMSC Mick Flello and Pep. One legendary weekend went like this. Friday night down the Brit on Trentside with Denny on the decks, then over to Cleo's in Derby where Hector was on. That finished about 1.30 or so then it was up to Samanthas in Sheffield where John Vincent resided. Saturday it was over to a mates in Horwich where we layed low until it was time to go to Wigan and catch the free bus to the Highland Rooms, remembering to get our hands stamped so we could get back on the bus to the Casino for a helping of Rus, Kev and Richard. Then back to the Palais for the dayer. Good times
  13. For me it has to be Major Lance at the 76 Club, Burton-upon-Trent, sometime in the early seventies. Such a tiny venue with a stage no higher than two foot. Then a week or so later they had J J Barnes. Happy days
