  1. Fab fab tune mind, as us wess countriers say Reminds me of hearing it around the Ady RCA's haul he was playing many moon ago in the basement. The opening brass section still gives me goose pimples now, and I play it out normally twice a night!
  2. I was at the 100 club in something like 1988 or 89 and Mick Smith played an instrumental version of "Stronger Than Her Love" - only ever heard him play it once - anyone know it or any history of it? It did sound the business - then again, everything does there!
  3. Pow Wow Manny Corchado, Long Version How available is this please peeps....label, value etc Heard it at Hipshaker on the IOW in August - Fab tune but the shorter version is a bit more direct - does anyone have info

  5. fabulous kays kirsty not issued but steve plumb may still have some copies kimgs go forth check james troubles post on the site there will be a lot of carolinas things worth looking for . mark Thanks Guys, anyone got any other suggestions for recently released 45's that have been played on the scene? Wasnt there a 45 by Grace Jones played fairly recently?
  6. I suppose an example of a newly made tune that has been played is "Bless Your Heart" by General Johnson, and this got me thinking that there were probably quite a few 45's that certain enterprising DJ's have played on the soul scene in the past 10 years or so? This could include unreleased 45's that got a legit issue such as "Suspicion"..... I'm looking for suggestions - can anyone help on this?
  7. Have just mailed you re one of your 45's
  8. Great thread, I'll scan my no. up later from early 1988. The 100 Club was the FIRST soul event I'd been too outside of Bristol - what an introduction to rare soul eh? Incidently we got the date wrong on the first visit and turned up on SATURDAY morning circa 1am after travelling Friday night on the train, hanging around various places cos we had no money before going in. After 30 minutes of rock and roll music we realised we had it wrong - GUTTED. Then had to wait from 3am til 8am in the freezing cold at the train station before getting home at about 11am to crawl into bed. Still went the next night though and had a blinding time - the era of "Torture", "Pyramid", Maurice McAllister and Butchs cover ups. I still reckon the basement is the ONLY way to hear Mel Britt cos the sound bounces off all the walls and sounds totally different to anywhere else. God I loved this time - got plenty of live tapes I used to do to try and relive the music and learn what the hell was being played! Happy times.
  9. Great thread - I'll scan my number up later - its from around 1988. Also got a couple of Flyers from that era too. The 100 Club was the FIRST soul night I'd ever been too outside of Bristol.
  10. A friend of mine has two spare tickets for the Sunday night Hipshaker do at the Isle Of Wight THIS Sunday. If interested please use this link to The Friday Club website https://www.fridayclubsite.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/ and you'll find his link with the advert. These are only available as he got over excited and ordered too many and he is selling them at the face value. We've got ours - see you near the decks on all three nights!
  11. soulsauce Sep 8 2006, 01:44 PM' THE tune that defines northern soul for me is Man o Man, Little Walter - what a fab intro - watch the dancers run to the floor - gets me every time! Took years to track it down after first hearing it as a cover up, bought every 45 going with similar words in the title (what could I do? What should I do? etc etc etc) and finally got a copy at Prestatyn a few years a go (no not an original!). I love it and treasure it! I would have to agree with you there..... The drum and snare drumbeat intro "baaaaah bah bah bah bah bah bah ba" ......anyone know what the hell I'm on about... I'm STILL getting an original.............ONE DAY....
  12. The last set he done at heavenly blocked was the first time he played it out , the record was Steeplechase Never coming Back . R.I.P my friend I'll miss you xx condolences to Nige B Lynsey and of course all of the family. I saw him at the other Weston Allnighter a couple of months ago, I'd met him just a couple of times. He saw my for sales box and picked out the Steeplechase as described above - telling me about Dean Parish. He then proceeded to get 3 other mates over to my box and they all bought 45's. He was really the first person I'd met who really raved over Deon Jackson apart from me and I listened to him play a set in Bristol late last year. In a smoky pub on the wrong side of town he played a set of what I described as 100 club monsters including The Sinceres, The Sunlovers, and that Deon Jackson "Sun" stonker. The thing that really struck me was that I' d never met anyone who was so totally infectious about what he had on the decks and whenever you watched him play he would be scanning the room to see who else was digging the 45 he was playing and would start singing along with you and getting off with you enjoying yourself. What an inspiration...... I feel proud to have known him.
  13. Good to see the interest in Deon - his stuff is fantastic.... I've got an LP called "His Greatest Recordings" with loads of nice stuff including the following "Hard To Get A Thing Called Love" "Still Remember The Feeling" "When The Love Is Gone" "The Reason Why" All unreleased and on the Smoke label circa 1984! Wonder why the interest in his work at that date - i.e mid 80's Anyone else got this one ? its terrific.....
  14. Got this acitate, who is it,it not Frankie? It sounds like a sooty and sweep outake - hardly enlightening I know but you must agree its rubbish.............. in saying that it'll probably fetch about £200 on e bay........
