  2. What a tune Steve - lovin this one!
  3. I really like that kind of sound and this thread, come on folks get some more suggestions up there!
  4. I used to go to The 100 Club in the late 80's and would hear Butch playing Mr Soul and then this tune called "What Shall I Do". We used to travel down monthly to hear these two and I started to scour lists to see if I could find this tune - obviously to no avail! So I bought Anita Humes and Essex and then Frankie and The Classicals - both ok records in their own right but obviously not THE storming atmospheric magical tune I was after. The song: Little Walter and The Admirations on La Cindy - I was hardly likely to have found it in the local PDSA charity shop!
  5. Is there a Weekender on later in the year - cant find any current info and need to know whether to book a hotel or not!

  7. Chris Anderton' Already mentioned but here it is, from the "Get on the good foot" LP. I used to play this at Albrighton in the late 90s...I first heard it in a record store in Detroit where they were playing the whole LP. I just looked at Shifty and said "this is brilliant crossover"! James Brown "Your love was good for me". Chris Absolutely amazing - now THAT''S what I'm talking about! Straight onto my wants list this one.
  8. I just got The "Lost Someone" track on the Hell LP. Fantastic tune, albeit its recorded very quitely on the LP , once you get past the 'gong' noise at the start you have to turn up the volume!
  9. Wow, so there are some great tunes out there then. Love the "People Wake Up and Live" track - this was played once or twice at the 100 Club I think.
  10. What are the ones that are played or were on the NS scene? I believe there are a few Northern type tunes mostly hidden away on LP's? I don't mean his funky "Say it loud / sex machine / I feel good kind of stuff but the more 'soulful' things Interested to 'discover' stuff 'right under my nose' if you get my meaning.

  17. Jesus, do you know me....?
  18. That you are BORED with what you have? And that you want different 45's or MORE? I wonder if this applies just to those who have say 200 - 300 x 45's rather than those who are blessed with space and money to have 1000's ?? Or do I have it all wrong and actually you love everything you have in your box and do not want more!? In this age of You Tube, CD's and MP3's and so on we can easily listen to and consume hundreds and hundreds of soul tunes in half a day and get access to stuff you have never heard before. So what effect does that have when you look at the few, many, or huge pile of 45's you currently have.?
  19. Thanks to everyone who pm'd Now sorted thanks. Regards, Ian

  22. Yesss!!! Cheers guys. Was this a record length of time to identify? - or just a record...
  23. It's a crossover soul tune with a male singer and a echo of the lyrics at the end of each line It starts off with what I think is a flute but could be wrong "Books were made for reading (for reading) Hands were made for eating (for eating) Handshakes were made for greeting (for greeting) And time was meant for coming and leaving Chorus But girls are meant for loving - OR theres a mandate for loving" Can you help - its driving me mad - and shazam can't identify it - guess the guys in the shazam room don't like crossover
  24. Morning, can you just confirm receipt and that you are happy with your 45. Thanks, Ian
  25. chalky Russ, it sounds more like Rob Marriott from the list Ian gave. On the latest tape I've just copied Butch dedicates The Temptones c/u to him...
