  9. With the upcoming Learning at work week, I have been tasked with finding out what is the known highest amount that has been paid for a 7" single? I know that you guys will know. Is it Frank Wilson or something else. I would like to hear the reputed value, Artiste and track Title. If you clever people know the same outside of the Northern arena that would be cool too. Many thanks in advance. Yogi

  12. 1) Where do you live? - The South (20 miles north of London) 2) How did you get into Northern Soul? Saw some 'dancers' at a club in Watford, all in black, some with a single black leather glove. Was already into Soul and was at the club to watch a soul artist, which I guess is why the dancers were there. My interest grew from that night and explored who they were and why they dressed and danced differently. The rest is history. 3) Where do you believe Northern Soul originated from? (Through my research I have found many different theories) The term was coined by Dave Godin a writer for the Blues & Soul magazine I believe. My investigations (see above) all led me to somewhere up north, but there was a certain 'underground' element to it so cannot say for sure. 4) Do you have any interesting memorabilia that you are proud to own? Records, Badges, Baggies, damaged/aching joints and a piece of the toilet wall from the Catacombs club in Wolverhampton. 5) What do you know of Northern Soul in Stoke On Trent? Nearly made the last night of the Torch in Tunstall and do attend current all nighters now at Kings/Queens hall? 6) Do you have any particular memories of visiting The Golden Torch? Missed it but was the icon venue at the time along with the Twisted Wheel in Manchester and I'm sure a raft of others Good luck with your submission.

  18. Hardly hard core, but I drove an escort van with 6-8 of us in it from Hemel every fortnight, which was the pre curser to Jon Buck doing it properly in a coach. Then migrated to a mini bus (well a VW caravelle) with 12-14 in it. Also did trips to the Cats and the Howard Mallet on Friday's. Being as young as we were then - Question - Did we really appreciate the 'scene' and the music we had then? or did we just go along with it all, moving from one nighter to the next, enjoying it of course but did we realise how special it all was? Just a thought! Cheers Yogi
  19. Great stuff Paul! Enjoyed the play twice....great memories evoked on both nights Cheers Yogi
  20. Hi Russ, I agree with most of Winnie's summary, 1) The Floor - most important for me, sprung wood and a reasonable size (Preferably no or limited Talc) 2) Decent music policy, although I love oldies, a touch of something a bit different. a little smattering of modern and only a few of the funkier stuff (fussy I know) 3) Easy parking - agree on Win's point about not the City centre venues 4) Size wise, 200 - 300 5) DJs, Not fussed really, if a lesser known DJ played a track that a Top name one would, does it sound any different. I go for the music not who plays it. 6) Timescale: Quarterly Cheers Yogi
