  1. Only just heard about the appeal for help. Contributed. A crying shame that one of America's most underrated and undervalued (but not by us) musical legends should be reduced to this. Hope this helps. Regards Stuart And Cathryn Bower
  2. Here's one I'm currently spinning at Oxcroft at the mo. Hardly any money needed to acquire this... THE BANDS OF GOLD-IT'S OVER-SMASH
  3. SEXY BEAST (2000) Starred Ray Winstone, Ben Kingsley, Ian McShane-The soundtrack featured DEREK MARTIN "DADDY ROLLING STONE Wowwwww!! TO LIVE AND DIE IN L.A. (1985) Starred William Petersen, Willem Dafoe featured WALTER JACKSON "IT'S AN UPHILL CLIMB (TO THE BOTTOM)" Must be quite a few more...
  4. You know what they say though...One man's poison...
  5. Awful news. Always was a top bloke. There should be more like him in the scene. Gary will be sadly missed. R.I.P. mate.Â
  6. If EPR was black? We went out and bought stuff by, for example, Dean Parrish, R Dean Taylor, Kiki Dee and loads of other artists at the time didn't we? They were white by the way. But enough of that, the stuff that's happening now is called modern soul. It's called modern soul for a reason. Like Alan Randall and his love for George Formby's music, EPR is a tribute act and should be treated as such. Now enough of this fluff. That's my last word on this subject. I'm off to listen to some real music.
  7. Silliness doesn't come into it and we're not doubting that he's got some sort of vocal ability but Gene Chandler (and thousands of our other musical heroes) he ain't. All we're saying (and I'm quoting Ranger here-thanks mate) that it's a half decent soul/motown tribute POP record -no more, no less. Music is just another art form. No good music, no bad music. It's all about whatever rocks YOUR boat!
  8. "BIDDS" -Is this connected with and/or affiliated with eBay?
  9. Of course it's pastiche-it's a soul/motown tribute pop record in the same league as Wham but it probably ain't gonna sell as many copies. But not as good a voice as George Michael? What do you think?
  10. What I'm saying is we are (and have been) part of the greatest underground dance music scene ever. We are flattered when these imitation 'tribute' pop records appear but shouldn't take 'em too seriously should we? Of course we shouldn't.
  11. Or how about the 'more famous'.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KF3Y5qfnhGc
  12. Or this? https://www.youtube.c...h?v=_lwthVtaocc
  13. Yes. And don't forget the flip- "I'VE GOT THE POWER"
  14. Â Here's more of the same..What's the difference between Paperboy and this?
  15. Rather be playing and listening to the real stuff- "thousands of the real thing" (thanks boba)- rather than "tribute" pop records. Â God forbid if real soul promoters are allowing this stuff to be played at their venues. However, lately nothing would surprise me.Â
  16. I was a big fan of this place and I only missed a few but only went under the second promoters (MYK Productions I believe?) which was late eighties.. Loved it.Â
  17. Soul Sam's monster and he was spinning it waaay before 2002. Prefer the flip though- "I Need Some Loving" .
  18. Got one Steve but unfortunately it's not for sale mate. Â If i come across another one I'll let you know palÂ
  19. Wow..Thanks my old friend..One of my faves.."THE TREASURE OF THE SIERRA MADRE" (1948) Or should this post be in the movie section in Freebasing or summat?
  20. I've still got quite a few cassettes recorded from Cleethorpes Pier and Winter Gardens circa 1976-1978. Might convert em to CD
  21. Like almost everything made in Britain back in the day..almost indestructable, heavy, hard as iron, virtually lasts forever. Making their American counterparts look soooo flimsy. The British sound engineers seemed to take the master tapes and tweaked em to sound even better than the American originals. And as someone else said on this thread.. Two red and whites (or greens) on the decks look so much cooler....
  22. Never went during the fire either. Waaaayyy too hot...
  23. And mine's never been the same since! Â
  24. Already done it years ago. Danced on the supermarket car park with the car doors open and the car stereo blasting out....
