Soul Packs.....remember Them?
Bought loads in Rotherham, across the road from the tailors, £5 for a random pack of 10. Easily worth it with the occasional hard gem. Most notable find: JACK MONTGOMERY-DON'T TURN YOUR BACK ON ME-BARRACUDA

Babe Ruth Elusive
Seem to remember it (Elusive) was quite popular at Cleethorpes..

Our Miners Welfare Has Closed Its Doors
Yes, Steve. Shame about Annesley-As you know, we had some great nights there (and a great alldayer) and some great memories. A lot of other great venues have gone the same way due to one reason or another. Memories are everything. Keep remembering the venues and they will never really die...

Bradford Queens Hall Flyer
Another of my fave ever niters. Used to come up in the van sometimes with Crofty and Adrian...The other times under my own steam. Great days. Thanks for putting up the flyers..

Our Miners Welfare Has Closed Its Doors
Saw Melvin D appear here in 2005. Sorry about the bad news. But (as Mandy says) places like this are becoming a thing of the past due to the smoking ban and high drinks prices. Villages need places like this though because it brings the local community together-it's somewhere for the locals to meet. Otherwise you'll get a town full of strangers where hardly anyone knows each other. Who wants that?

Manships 5Th Edition
Yes, Chalky. And not bad. As we recall, there were two editions totally dedicated to bootlegs/reissues issued by JM and even had the bootlegs priced up. I gave away the first but kept the 2nd edition..

Steve Mancha Memorial Fund
Only just heard about the appeal for help. Contributed. A crying shame that one of America's most underrated and undervalued (but not by us) musical legends should be reduced to this. Hope this helps. Regards Stuart And Cathryn Bower

Gary Muse (Grimsby) Rip
Awful news. Always was a top bloke. There should be more like him in the scene. Gary will be sadly missed. R.I.P. mate.Â

If EPR was black? We went out and bought stuff by, for example, Dean Parrish, R Dean Taylor, Kiki Dee and loads of other artists at the time didn't we? They were white by the way. But enough of that, the stuff that's happening now is called modern soul. It's called modern soul for a reason. Like Alan Randall and his love for George Formby's music, EPR is a tribute act and should be treated as such. Now enough of this fluff. That's my last word on this subject. I'm off to listen to some real music.

Eli Paperboy Reed
Silliness doesn't come into it and we're not doubting that he's got some sort of vocal ability but Gene Chandler (and thousands of our other musical heroes) he ain't. All we're saying (and I'm quoting Ranger here-thanks mate) that it's a half decent soul/motown tribute POP record -no more, no less. Music is just another art form. No good music, no bad music. It's all about whatever rocks YOUR boat!

What'S Your Take On Rare Soul?
"BIDDS" -Is this connected with and/or affiliated with eBay?
-
Eli Paperboy Reed
Of course it's pastiche-it's a soul/motown tribute pop record in the same league as Wham but it probably ain't gonna sell as many copies. But not as good a voice as George Michael? What do you think?

What I'm saying is we are (and have been) part of the greatest underground dance music scene ever. We are flattered when these imitation 'tribute' pop records appear but shouldn't take 'em too seriously should we? Of course we shouldn't.

Here's more of the same..What's the difference between Paperboy and this?

Rather be playing and listening to the real stuff- "thousands of the real thing" (thanks boba)- rather than "tribute" pop records. Â God forbid if real soul promoters are allowing this stuff to be played at their venues. However, lately nothing would surprise me.Â

Tonys Empress Blackburn
I was a big fan of this place and I only missed a few but only went under the second promoters (MYK Productions I believe?) which was late eighties.. Loved it.Â

Margaret Little,love Finds A Way
Soul Sam's monster and he was spinning it waaay before 2002. Prefer the flip though- "I Need Some Loving" .
