  1. I prefer 6T`S and R&B. She prefers modern. Hear, hear to that.
  2. And that`s how much I paid him for it..
  3. Think I`ve got a spare..how much are you willing to pay, Mark?
  4. R.I.P to the great man..And what a man... The twin LP album...DOUBLE DEKKER on Trojan..I played it to death in the early seventies...
  5. I`ve tried living with non-soulies. Doesn`t work. They just don`t get it. This scene has more or less been my life since 1972. I eventually left, moved on. Stuck to women in the scene. Full stop.
  6. GARY GLITTER-ROCK N` ROLL PT 2 (the instrumental) I kid you not..Someone played it-I was there...
  7. So what do you think of these modern 60`s sound-a-likey`s? i.e. "artistes" like Nicole Willis, the (Fatboy Slim?) Frank Popp Ensemble?
  8. I`ve been in this scene since 1973 (some say earlier ) and I`ve come to the conclusion that there`s some good and bad soul in each era! I`m generally a sixties man but I appreciate there`s life after that era... (7T`S 8T`S 9T`S 2K) (and there`s life before it!!) I also love a fair bit of R N` B from the late fifties- early sixties, and also some raw blues-John Lee Hooker from the FORTIES! ) I wasn`t always like this-as some people who know me will tell you, I wasn`t interested in ANYTHING recorded after 1975. But i`ve become open minded over the years..I only judge anything now only if I`ve experienced it for myself. And IMO ours is possibly the world`s greatest ever underground dance music scene because it`s sooo diverse...
  9. Yes Linda that`s him with Hoss in the background? God last time I saw him (Soulie) was...was it Winsford? But quite a long time ago...Refresh my memory someone... I was there..(obviously)
  10. Yeah! Barbara that`s her! Babs for short...
  11. Went to his wedding years ago. Never quite got there though. Saw him before the wedding and after because we`d sent our mate Weasel in the car to get some petrol. He never came back in time. There was me,Bub and a few others twiddling our thumbs in Margaret`s house near Manchester waiting for the car to come back. Got to the reception though.BTW Used to knock around with Soulie regularly. He lived in Wigan for a bit, with his wife of the time (Barbara?) who was an ex-model. Loads of other memories to share but there ain`t enough time or space....

  13. And we all know what`s really good for our energy levels, don`t we brother?. ..Hmmm..just recalling the question that pub landlady asked me in a pub in Prestatyn town centre on the Thursday afternoon... .
  14. Flipside to Candle: "Watcha Gonna Do" Anyway, The Blackburn nighters were later promoted by MYK Promotions (Mick Lyons and friends). I was a regular. They were at Tony`s Empress Ballroom in the middle of Blackburn town centre. Everyone I know loved it even though the dance floor was a bit dodgy and needed a bit of maintenance -nobody cared. Everyone was too busy having a great time. Great atmosphere. I met some great people there. Still see some of `em nowadays.. Great days..
  15. Excuse me, but are you THE Lee Bates?? What am I gonna do? What am I gonna say? No need to ask why I don`t write though...
  16. And yet again..that`s ANOTHER one that I play.(My Kind Of Girl). You really ought to take a trip to our place...
  17. Been trying that with stuff like Case Of Tyme etc. Some sound advice for all you "classic oldies" people. Give `em a break for a couple of years and then start playin `em again. And they sound as fresh as daisies..Again.
  18. Well, If ever you and Tony come to our place, I`ll play it for you...
  19. I`m currently playing it again at our place-Where?-just look under my avatar..they love it!! A thirty quid record that sounds like a thousand pounder... CitationsBALLADKeepTheFaith.mp3
  20. And I also quite like CAN`T STOP MY LOVE by the same group...
  21. But the fact is people in Britain are being robbed everyday. In the U.S. all this packaging sh*t`s free!!! It`s given away by people like the US mail Service to promote business. Over here we`ll stand for the f****n cat!!!!
  22. Mmmmm.....delicious piece of plastic... Be even better if it was mint!! Once offered a guy up on the decks at an alldayer in Conisborough fifty quid for it (Yes FIFTY QUID- I was taking the piss of course-ain`t I always? ) about 15 years ago...If looks could kill.....
  23. And I used to get a right bollocking from a certain promoter called Ray Hudson (R.I.P. brother) for doing so.....
  24. Rosco Gordon? Didn`t know it but...Nice...right up my street..just the type of 45 I like.... I know Jackie Shane and Anna King of old..rare northern. Used to be spun at a certain nighter I used to attend.....
