    Soulghost

ps somebody going to get nice xmas present

    25,000 records i think

  2. I'm so pleased other collectors find the SOUL SOUNDS label so attractive! I think they are extremely collectable:

Interestingly I'm lead to believe that the run was 500 of each..(anyone confirm that?)

Without doubt every SOUL SOUNDS press is infinately rarer than its UK press counterpart. Just underlining how many copies of the original EMI etc. releases are in circulation. I've had countless Incredibles on Stateside only ever had a couple of it on SOUL SOUNDS in 37 years.

Mentioning no names, but if you check the Jay Boy releases against a SOUL SOUNDS you'll see they were pressed by the same company..

I think Sean's collection of the label is worth much more than people think. I've got a few titles in stock, maybe I'll auction one and see what the market thinks they are worth. Or will I get "blasted" for doing that?

PS I can remember BJD label in Selecta-Disc long after the SOUL SOUNDS had disappeared, so I think maybe these your after SOUL SOUNDS although they look to have come from the same pressing plant. Keith Rylatt he's older than me, he'd know for certain.

Soul Sounds are certainly a cornerstone of Northern Soul history and should be considered highly collectable. I wish I had a full set.

    hi john

  3. I think you may be mistaking me with Keith Williams on here - My name's Kev

I wouldn't know how many were pressed up - I guess someone like Ian Dewhirst or Rick Cooper would be your best bet for an answer

sorry about mix up on your ID  kev

  4. I've had about 3 copies of each label design in recent years and have sold them for around £30 - £40 max

I'd guess roughly the same quantity of each were pressed up and as Nev says - it's not a rare record

I would think most people would buy it as a collection filler

I'd put the value of the first press at £40 and the second press at £25 - £30

keith as your'e a well known dealer would you think this record was pressed in low hundred counts or high?

  5. It could take you years to add them all up mate. This was a reasonably common 50p record in the early to mid 70's, even with the fancy script. There are 100's of 'em over here, most of them probably in collections.

    Ian D :D

I've got year ahead of me yet me tinnks ? :hatsoff2:

  6. Bob Cataneo was wholesaling 'em to the UK and I can remember them coming through in abundance. It was a Mecca only tune so it didn't translate anywhere else so there were probably more copies than actual demand at the time. Mind you, same with Marvin Holmes, Don Thomas, Oscar Perry etc, etc. There's got to have been 500-1000 of each in the UK I'd have thought......? Maybe it's spread out a bit over 40 years so the copies are dispersed around the world now.......a great record though, as so many of 'em were.........

    Ian D :D

    hi ian

can you remember if they were the fancy italic labels or the upper case one's ?

  7. I've still got mine!! I bought it in about 1979 or 1980 from Wigan.

(didn't reply earlier as I didn't think you serious about trying to count 'em up!)

    cheers,

    Kev Bod

    cheers for your reply kev

  8. You didn't count the two copies that jinx74 mentioned above that he's had.

I have no idea how many copies there are out there, but just because only 11 copies are accounted for by the people that have seen this thread on SoulSource doesn't mean that there are only 11 copies in existence.

Why not phone Manship and ask how many copies he's had through his hands over the years? Or John Anderson. Or any of the other major dealers.

i haven't counted jink's because he said he had them not got them now

yes i agree with you there will be more copies but there are thousands of collectors on SS as there as not been a big response

    to this thread
