  5. Another one for your list. Skippy Devine - There'll be some changes made/You'll never walk alone V-111977-T/V-111977-Y, arranged & conducted by Bobby Martin, Address 1618 N.Broad St, Phila PA 19121 Keep the good work up folks Des Parker
  6. Adding to the snippets of trivia, was played at Stafford by Guy as "Jimmy Castor - Believe Me" Des Parker
  7. Don't want to be tooooo "Anal" about this, and yes Pat Brady did play "Heartbreakin' Time".................but he did play Little John "Just Wait & See". From edition 4 of "Midnite Express" this is part of a review of records Pat listed in Black Echoes on 22/01/83 (prior to Keb D.J.'ing at Stafford) "JIMMY RAYE - I'M THE ONLY ONE" The title is a bit dubious, and judging by the number of times it's repeated, it is probably "True True Love" Des Parker
  8. Keb did play it, but I'm pretty sure Pat Brady spun it before Keb as "Jimmy Raye - I'm The Only One", Des Parker P.S. Whilst the World around us is crumbling to shit, thank God we can absorb, and discuss bits of trivia like this!
  9. What's King Coleman worth on Columbia Promo? Des Parker
  10. Sounds kinda boring, but same here, just recovering now! Des
  11. I think it's admirable to set a professional stance, and possibly one of the reasons why venues like the "100 club" have achieved such longevity, but we all know that "favouritism" is out there. To be frank, It's something I just accept as the norm, and not worth losing any sleep over. Des Parker
  12. The professional way is to book people purely on merit, but BACK IN THE REAL WORLD......................................................Let's put it another way, would you book someone who "slags" you off, honestly, no B.S. Des Parker
  13. Promoters putting their mates on, surely this doesn't happen. I very much doubt if anyone DOESN'T let their personal feelings towards others influence their choice of D.J.'s - It would me!! Des Parker
  14. How many D.J.'s or "budding" D.J.'s even on the "cutting edge" are attempting to break any new tunes. The only "fix" I get, for listening to something fresh and exciting, is listening to the likes of Butch, Andy Dyson, or very rarely, digging through boxes of odd 45's in the U.S. I'm sure that in a set of 25 records there is room for 1 tune that is GENUINELY different!! Des Parker
  15. Always a difficult subject, on the one hand we don't want a "closed shop" in terms of D.J.'s/Niters/Soul Nights/Weekenders as this often leads to complacency and boredom, but on the other hand we don't want 20 of the same thing. New D.J.'s/Niters/Soul Nights/Weekenders are a good thing, if they are bringing something new to the party, and not just "cashing in" Des Parker
  16. For me the "bootleg" issue is pretty irrelevant, what is relevant is having fresh, exciting and awesome sets from people that are passionate about the music, and have the b*ll*cks to push the boundries, whilst keeping a floor. Unfortunately people what play "boots" are unlikely to have anything "tasty" in their armoury and are, by virtue of this.............CRAP D.J.'s. Having said that, there may be some that have a large disposable income to spend on these wonderful "originals", but can only spot a "good" record if it's got a high price on it. Des Parker
  17. Didn't the food thing used to be a way of getting round some of the old Licensing Laws, not always an act of benevolence on the part of the promoter. I think I remember going to a Sunday "All Dayer" in Gloucester in the 1980's where there was a "buffet" included. Des Parker
  18. Hopefully you'll get yourself on line soon Martyn, as perhaps may of the frustrations and debates you want to have, may be better suited to this medium, rather than a Magazine format. As I've stated time and time again, it is probably one of, if not THE best Magazine around, but I still maintain that the "politics" in it needs to be rethought , the following passage typifies what I feel is detrimental to the overall high quality of the magazine:- "The scene has been hijacked, the music is quite often pushed to the back. It's more about characters with fancy nicknames, telling us about this and that. How they found certain records, and what they've done for the scene. Creating an identity and immortalising themselves. More through image, rather than actual deeds. They have elevated themselves to superstar status" - Many can empathise with many of your sentiments.............................but you obviously had at least one person in mind when this was written, but yet again we're guessing who these "hijackers" are, is it:- Butch, Chalky, Flanny, Ginger Taylor, Johnny Fingers, etc etc. Am I being a bit thick here, can someone tell me who these fancy nicknamed "Hijackers" are??? Des Parker P.S. I do hope Mace isn't the fancy nicknamed hijacker, as I have to sit on a Plane with him soon!!!
  19. I thought Rob Pheasant owned this now. Massive spin, early 80's from Pat Brady, covered up as "Twans - I Need You Baby" Des Parker
  20. Tiny Topsy, who was anything but!! Des Parker
  21. I wish Keith all the best in this, and at the end of the day, it's good for all of us. Anyhow we're doing a Tuesday Night Record swap meet on the 14th October - Admission is absolutely FREE, Cost of dealer tables absolutely NOTHING, and no restrictions on table size, what time you have to set up, finish etc etc. Sellers already coming include Butch, Tim A, Adey Pearce etc etc. Will put up a seperate thread very soon, I'm sure that Keith has no problem borrowing his thread. I'd love to come along to the George on 2nd November, but will be at an allnighter the night before, so not really possible! Anyhow good luck with this - how lucky you are in Stoke, 2 great Record Fairs within 3 Weeks of each other!!!!!! Des Parker
  22. Got a "Supremes - Time Changes Things" (Great Northern) for £4 (includes postage) Des Parker P.S. Positive that I've got a "Four Tops - Since You've Been Gone" as well, have to dig it out, for £4 also.
  23. I fully, fully agree with you and not only are the Holmes Chapel bits valid inclusions, but also interesting reading, but WHY the slagging off, of unnamed venues, promoters and D.J.'s without having the bollocks to state who the Magazine's on about, leaving us, the unnamed wondering if it refers to us!!!!!! Des Parker
  24. By the way, if I cook a Meal for myself I don't say that everyone else in the street is a crap cook.
  25. As I say, yes it's free speech, opinions etc etc but take the example of Bidds, where I'm resident. Not one mention of the venue in 96 pages yet 11 pages on Holmes Chapel, which is no problem in itself - it's Martyn's mag and venue, but when you see the political rhetoric about "inept promoters", "musically average" etc etc and there's no favourable mention about the venue I'm involved with, you can't help but think...........is he having a pop at us!! I'm sure this isn't the case, but it isn't clear for us, or a great deal of promoters,D.J.'s who weren't mentioned in the magazine. Des parker
