  1. Prior to the "Book" there was a quite an extensive "priced" wants list doing the rounds amongst a lot of American dealers, from a U.K. dealer. I'd be interested in how many copies of the Book, in it's various incarnations have been sold in the U.S. , it seems to be EVERYWHERE!! I'm philosophical about it, and certainly don't see JM as some sort of Pariah, if it wasn't John, someone else would have quickly cornered that market, so good luck to him, it just irritates me that people don't know how to use it - £100 in the book, top price for a Mint Copy of something DOES NOT EQUAL $300 for a trashed piece of Sh*t with no label!! I've mentioned this before, and although not a complaint, it's a real WTF moment! A guy came up to me, whilst D.J.'ing with a list of about 6 English Tamla Motown numbers (No Titles), you know the TMG 5... etc etc, and probably tough ones, anyhow he asks me to ask out over the Decks if anyone's got these records - I asked him if he was after them (in an attempt to point him in a more suitable direction, as far as servicing your wants, as I had NO intention of reading them out) He then says " I've got them all, I just wanted to see if anyone else in the room had them!" Hi Got one here, few light scuffs, but otherwise a nice copy - yours for £25 including postage Des Parker
  4. A young music devotee, Clay Barclay set up a recording studio in his Parents basement in Orwigsburg Pennsylvania and recorded this tune for posterity, as well as "The Traditions" (Barclay), "Bobby Penn & Penpals" (Up-Tight) and "Vic & Catalinas" (Barclay) as well as unreleased stuff by "The Motiques" and "James And The Incredible Showmen". Although a real budget outfit, "The Traditions - Girls - Barclay" reputedly sold over 10,000 copies! Des Parker
  5. The group on "I'm Losing Your Love" were from Pennsylvania, and part of the "Barclay" group of labels (Traditions - My Life With You etc), and amazingly nothing to do with the groups of the same name from Harrisburg, and Philadelphia. Quite a low budget stable of labels, so likely they "borrowed" heavily from the Capitols track. Des Parker

  8. Hope to catch him at Groovesville, are all events doing tickets? Des Parker
  9. This is a bit a non story, as far as I'm concerned. I've been fortunate to have D.J.'d at Dozens & Dozens of venues in the last few Years, never talked about Money before the event, always been looked after, made welcome, and don't think there's 1 promoter I've had dealings with, that I wouldn't D.J. for again (though whether they'd ask me is another thread) - Sorry for not being controversial, but let's have some balance here. Little Ben & Cheers £10 (including postage) Des Parker
  11. Frank Bendinelli told me that he rated her as a Singer way, way above Patti (Patti & Emblems) but Ann Byers was an absolute nightmare to work with, he thinks she committed suicide - a troubled Soul. Des Parker
  12. First copy bought in Toledo for $7. Just a theory, but I'm still convinced this is a "Custom" record, although the backing is good, her voice is not good (to say the least), in comparism to the people that "Popcorn Wylie" had at his disposal - which would explain why nobody ever got a copy from him, he didn't even have a file copy, coz he made it for somebody else. Maybe all the other copies are in Margaret Littles loft? Des Parker
  13. Sorry Guys , I do have a criticism of you, stop wasting time, and breath on these people. Des Parker
  14. This old chestnut again. There's a variety of reasons as mentioned before, why people don't dance, mine is a combination of laziness, obesity, being sat behind boxes of sales. Each to his own & all that, but to make some bizarre link between D.J.'s that dance, and the quality of music played is unfounded. Butch and Andy Dyson are not currently known for hitting the dancefloor for Hours at a time, yet in many's Eyes are the best D.J.'s in the country. Surely, It's how the music takes you inwardly! Next we'll be having "Who's the biggest Soul fan - based on the number of patches you have sewed onto your clothing" Des
  15. When you've paid up at River, and in an attempt to get you back, he also has the "Room Out the Back" full of records that "no one else has been through" don't fall for that heap of Sh*t, I did!! Des

  17. A couple of years ago had 2 copies of "Roy Hamilton - Let The Music Play" on Adey C's "Kent" label. These were large centre hole, black & white labels, 4 Diamonds design, even with Kent address - I assume they weren't legal, but haven't seen any copies since, anyone shed any light. Des
