The whole "Newies V Oldies" thing, totally baffles me, and I'm now past caring. From a personal point of view, I struggle with the idea of someone playing a set of records that I was listening to 25 Years ago, being labelled a "Newies" or "Upfront" D.J. - It don't stack up? Des Parker

Just got back from the U.S. with amongst other things a wad of Acetates. Some great unissued things, and one that is standout "Funky" Soul in the style of "Joseph Webster" on a Virtue Arseytate, which I probably won't keep. I've told this story a couple of times on here, usually in a different context, but here goes again. A good friend of mine bought this in the early 1980's off the bowl, off the rarities section, as it said "current spin" or "in demand" thinking it was Keb Darges "Vernon Garrett - This Is It I'm Leaving You Now" which was in fact "Ron Baxter - This Is It" but, obviously as it was covered up, we weren't to know that. Anyhow, he kept it, and a few years later dumped it in a local charity shop, when having a bit of a clear out, I don't think he ever took to the record, I suppose, at least he put it in a store, where someone else could enjoy it, one friend of mine used to smash up his unwanted 45's with a hammer - job done. In my opinion, Lifeline is by far the best Allnighter in the Country, in terms of keeping to the true spirit of Northern Soul, and, although slightly out of your catchment area, Bidds is regarded by many, as the most "Upfront" allnighter in the country.
