  3. Fantastic record, first played by Greg Tormo, I believe. Des Parker
  4. Picked one up last March, in Pittsburgh, feel ashamed, but I still like it. Des Parker
  5. Bit of herecy now, but Margaret Little is NOT a brilliant singer, fabulous backing though!! Des Parker P.S. Much as I love a lot of his tunes, why does Joe Simon's voice grate on me AT TIMES (I'll be burnt at the stake for this one) but honestly, only my opinion!!!
  6. No, The RCA group were a Pennsylvania, Blue eyed group, and "Bump Ball" was used to promote a toy - have a newspaper cutting with them in somewhere. Des Parker
  7. Don't get hung up on the issue of "rarity", the Northern Soul record "market" can be summed up in 2 words - Supply & Demand. Des Parker
  8. Been playing this out for about 3-4 Years, sounds fantastic out loud, managed to get another off gemm about 6 Months ago via Craig Moerer for $40. Like the Jimmy Moore, always thought this would have it's day, and is probably quite obscure and well worth a 3 figure price tag!! Des Parker
  9. Talk to John Anderson about the records he had in quantity (in the 100's) :- Caressors, Ringleaders , Billy Hambric, Towana on "Romark" etc. Then look at what people used to buy for a £1 - £3 back in the day, talk to people like Blue Max & the quantity of stock he had from places like Global, back in the day e.g. Vonettes, Edwin Starr - You're My Mellow. Add to this the U.S. dealers that sent over 5,000 copies of Epitome of Sound, and all the other dealers, importers etc etc, then what does surprise me is that more records don't turn up in Junk stores over here!! Des Parker
  10. Chuck Corby reused the backing and some of the phrasing of the "Soul Communicators - Those Lonely Nights" when he was asked to reform the Dell Vikings (even though he wasn't in the original line up) , on "Finger Poppin' Woman" in the late 1970's Des Parker
  11. Maybe there should be some guidelines, if people are going to use Soul Source to promote a"charity" event?? Des Parker
  12. It's the "All Profits" thing that bothers me, you need a publically declared set of accounts, so all can see what the costs are, otherwise it could be a scam! Des Parker
  13. P.M.'d you, Martin Des Parker
  14. I know people who have done very nicely out of charity events, if it's "All profits go to Charity". I could quite easily put on a charity night, charge £200 expenses for my D.J. services, £200 for hire of my Kit, £50 travelling Expenses etc, etc. and once I've come up with an "Expense List" then, yes, all the profits (if any) would go to Charity - SCANDALOUS!! Totally in favour of worthwhile events, and have, and WILL wholeheartedly support them. D.J.'s charging, for chucking on a few "Oldies" for an Hour, my Kids can do that, it's not Rocket Science, get off your high horses, any muppet with 25 out of the Northern Soul "Top 500" can do it - Of course D.J.'s should do Charity events for Nothing, as long as the promoter also isn't making on the event, and they are asked to D.J.on that basis. There are some fantastic charitable events, let's give THEM the support, and Cash they deserve. Des Parker
  15. Updated, more titles added tonight. Des Parker

  17. Films aren't really my thing, and I'm gonna sound a bit thick here, is this a pukka film that's going to be shown at my local Canon multiscreen , or a flick that's for Art House consumption only, or something I see for a £1 in Tesco's DVD racks. As I said, films aren't my speciality, but I took a look at their website, and hadn't heard of any of their output (which means nothing, I'm afraid) , though "School For Seduction" sounds as if it has artistic merit. Is their other stuff any good?? Des Parker
  18. Updated. Des Parker

  22. Ducky & Glowlighters - Over & Over Des Parker
  23. Forgetting the R & B/Latin/Funk/Modern etc that's been lovingly thrown into the mix (which I do wholeheartedly agree with) I still lOVE the idea of fresh & new "Northern Soul" , just don't seem to be hearing a lot of it being played out lately. Just in case I've been guilty of napping, or not paying attention, what are the best "60's" discoveries this Yeari.e. 2009 , I mean about 75% of this site is made up of budding D.J.'s ,scouring the net, there must be a swathe of cracking new stuff I'm missing out on? Des Parker
  24. I totallly agree with what you're saying about Acetates, John, and I've a penchant for them, myself!! I've probably "dissed them" in a rather clumsy way, as I'm not disputing their rarity, but we could end up with a list of almost every title in the Manship book on it's "rare" Acetate form. Maybe include them, if they're unissued cuts? Des
  25. If we're looking at rarity and not price, how people seem to mix the two quite distinct concepts is beyond me, then it's got to be something where there is only ONE known copy, so all your Don Gardners/Eddie Parkers/Salvadors should be forgotten, as should arseytates/test pressings et al. Contenders so far - C.O.D.'s - Combinations - Jnr Mcants (are there 2?) - Contessa - King Moses (are there 2?) - Inspirations (surely there's more than 1) Surely if theres confirmed 2 copies, then the disc is out of the running for this accolade, well that's how I percieve it? Des Parker
