  4. Again, I don't really know a lot about albums, and not as much as this one, but the "Turner Brothers" goes for a few quid, don't it? These albums aren't your traditional "Northern" albums, though. Is there a "Northern" album that goes for more than £200? Des
  5. The one off Gemm, from Adey Pierce, maybe - I remember being on a trip with him about 8 Years ago and finding a few of these (in Springfield , Missourri, if I remember rightly) I couldn't make my mind up about it then.....and still can't. I kept one for ages, as Pete says - great backing!! Des Parker
  6. John, happy days, but before the days of internet, I'm afraid. If you ran it now, you would NOT get that amount of people, those were days when paper lists were the order of the day, what you did was groundbreaking. It's simple economics, unless you can get people through the door NOW (not back then) which Roger Banks, Adey Pierce (with his Record Fairs in Manchester) proved to be difficult (and they did an excellent job of promoting), you're taking the piss out of dealers, by charging them £20 - £40 a table, if there's no F***er in the room, and they barely cover their costs. Listen, I want to sell records, and I would love this idea to be a success - but, maybe 10 Years ago, eh! Des
  7. Minor hit for the "Five Emprees" on "Freeport" in the U.S. Des
  8. I do think if I had a choice of a record fair mid day in Manchester, or setting up at something like your Droylsden Allnighter in the evening, The evening would win hands down, with the addition of some quality music as welll!!! Have you thought about a night, mid week in somewhere like the "Greatstone" , I'm sure they'd be glad of the business, I'd be up for something like that, and be happy to pay £5 to set up, maybe not London Victoria, but a realistic start. Des
  9. The record fair your proposing is EXACTLY the same format as the ones Adey Pierce and Chris Gwatkin ran in the centre of Manchester a few Years ago. They ended because there weren't the people coming through the door, the dealers were getting pissed off, coz they weren't covering their costs, less dealers each time, downward spiral, and I keep banging on about it, but I can get a table at an allnighter with 300 people passing through for £10, even if you charge £20 for a 6 foot table, it's TOO much. Des
  10. Mark I will come and support this if you don't charge me for a sales table, because - You are charging to get in, so getting income that way - If you've got any business acumen, your costs for use of a pretty redundant room on a Saturday/Sunday should be minimal, as they will make money on beverages/food - I can set up at a guaranteed busy Allnighter for nothing
  11. The ones that Johnny & Myself did were good, and we'd probably do some more. The reason they were good and could be used as a blue print for future events of this type were - We held them on a Tuesday night so getting a function room/back room of a pub for F*** all was no problem - We let dealers turn up and go when they wanted, so no commitment to stay all night - Free entry for buyers - Free tables for dealers - A set of decks, where dealers/ buyers can play out tunes that are for sale. The feedback/support we had for these was fantastic. The problem with your traditional record fair is it DON'T WORK!!!!!! Firstly they're held on a Saturday or Sunday, when a lot of folk on the scene are going to/coming from events, or more so nowadays, can not really get a "pass" out from the other half to do a Day as well as a Night (whereas it's a bit easier to slip out for a couple of Hours on a Tuesday night) Also as a promoter of such an event you charge £20/£40 a table and what exactly is that paying for.............Use of a trestle table in a village hall? This could quite easily be construed as a bit of a scam, especially if your charging buyers to get in as well!!!!!! If you're going to charge me £20 or £40 to use a 6 foot table in a room that would normally NOT be in use, then can you GUARANTEE me that there will be healthy amount of customers through the door? Our Blueprint for a night when EVERYONE gained was a success, traditional record fairs are NOW just a bit of a "cash cow" for the promoters, and don't get continued support from the dealers they have charged, especially when we can set up at busy allnighters for absolutely NOTHING. Des

  16. I don't recall thinking the Moments "Hurts On You Baby" was the Springers, I think the confusion there was during the conversation, when I made a comparism with Thaddeus Wale who gave the "collectables" label the tapes for the "Springers" as well as the "Ethics" and how some "Springers" tracks got credited to "The Ethics" on "C.D.'s" Back to the side in question, I haven't got the Album, but the 45, credited to the moments, does not sound like them at all, totally raw, unpolished (right up my strasse, in fact!) maybe the Moments were having a bad hair day in the studio, or the "Willie & Mighty Magnificents" track was thrown on as a "filler" Des Parker
