  1. I know you're not, Chalky, I'm not disagreeing with you in the slightest, it's about balance, and as you said....common sense Des
  2. I think it's now an established fact that there are too many venues, and too many D.J.'s ......but would we rather have a closed shop with a handful of venues and a handful of D.J.'s/promoters controlling everything, with banning orders dished out to those who dissent against those in charge, how do we achieve a happy medium? Des

  7. P.M. sent Des Parker
  8. This has been played by Johnny Beggs for a few years now, was probably played before that, and probably before that, so it isn't a new "discovery" by a long chalk, but is largely unknown, by the "masses". I remember having a copy about 7 or 8 Years ago and being pretty underwhelmed by it, though it does sound a lot, lot better out loud! Des Parker
  9. The "Four Chaps" were "The Vogues" who thought it would be a good idea to cash in on the British Invasion, by putting out a disc in that ilk, complete with fake accents, and even changing their name for the disc. If it was done for a "joke" the joke was certainly on them. Des Parker
  10. This is f***ing tremendous, showcasing what can be achieved on this site!!!! Many, many thanks Bob:thumbsup: Des Parker
  11. Bit of trivia, Janeen Henry is Andrea Janeen Henry. Des Parker
  12. Excuse my faux pas, but I've never heard the record - I know it's pretty tough, is it Soul, Doo wap, Group, or any good, how would you describe it? Des Parker
  13. 1,000 copies of Inspirations done, licensed through Frank Bendinelli - virtually sold out, now. TOTALLY LEGAL. Des Parker
  14. I can't get my head round this, assuming it's not some sort of spoof! (It's Not April 1st is it) Mr Tommy wants to come in and flyer his event at an event he has no intention of coming into, which he's more or less been able to do via a "flyer table", and now has some sort of problem with the promotion!! I think you're all being a little unfair to somebody with a few "difficulties" to say the least - best comedy post of the Year!!!!!! DISCUSS - There is no discussion, you're daft Tom. Des Parker
  15. Just turned on the computer this morning and can't believe what I've read! Only got to know Max in the last 10 Years or so, but one of the absolute cornerstones of the Soul scene in the Midlands, who I naively thought would be around forever - I'm absolutely gutted. RIP mate Des Parker
  16. The sound quality of this "reissue" is terrible, AND the labels are on the wrong sides!!! Bearing this in mind, the person who was responsible for these, recently offered me some at the bargain, wholesale price of £25 each, though I suppose they are "Mint". I still think there's a decimal point missing in that quote, but maybe this is a hot item, what do I know. Confused Des Parker
  17. Played by myself, Simon:- Chuck Cornish - Tribute To Mohammed Ali - White Cliffs Same backing as Senator Jones. In t'book for £40, but it isn't readily available, so if you see one at that price, snap it up!! Glad you enjoyed it Des Parker
  18. Out on Friday at "Solid Hit Soul", Saturday at "Go Go Children", Sunday at "Marrs Bar". All different in style, but similar in that they were ALL busy, and ALL brilliant in their own way - NO DOOM & GLOOM in my weekend (apart from only having 11 Hours sleep over the 3 nights) Des Parker
  19. Once you get over the fact that a large percentage of the Soul scene D.J.'s (or wants to D.J.) and therefore needs a sufficiant amount of venues to accomodate this, the varience of musical styles (1950's to last week!) the age group (from 16 to 60 plus) the "personal agendas" & "intolerances" of many of those "on the scene" , then we'll get a unified thing going on Des Parker
  20. I have yet another version of this on another Philly label by James T. Biggs, with yet another set of completely different words. Des Parker
  21. Sheila Ferguson? Des Parker
  22. Probably a "custom" record, with all the talent at his disposal, "Popcorn" would never have recorded ML, unless paid to.....or, as a favour!! Fantastic production, but she is not a brilliant singer (can we agree on that) , so when she went trotting away from the pressing plant with her 200 or 400 copies, "Popcorn" obviously felt no inclination to keep one or put it on his C.V. So, apart from the copies that she managed to give away to friends & family, the rest are probably in her loft, or landfill!! All speculation, I'm afraid, but a theory that could fit in nicely with the "Postman" information. Des Parker
  23. There's a version on the "Hit" label, as well, though no better/worst than Peggy's original. Des Parker
