  1. Karl Boddington posted on Facebook :_ 12h · Hi to all our soul family. Many of you are aware that Trudy had a slip on the dance floor at the Midland Band Social Club last April ( on slipperine) she fell so badly and has struggled since then and had to go private to try and sort her problem out. We went to see a consultant who told us the results today. Due to the bad fall it damaged her motor neurone nerves and its early stages of motor neurone disease. We are both devastated by this news. PLEASE don't put talc or slipperine on the dance floor it has ruined our lives. We have to go to Addenbrooks hospital Cambridge to a specialist motor neurone clinic for further treatment P.S think before you put this stuff on any dance floor at any soul event up and down the country on the Northern Soul scene. I'm a very angry person

  10. A very sweeping statment, I would'nt disagree, perhaps this qualifies it . I've been at venues where blinding 'uptempo' tunes, (not out and out NS by a along chalk but certainly a slower beat), have been mixed into a set and thourghly enjoyed it, BUT a full set of real 'smoochy' modern...no thanks. But then back in the day things like Fife Piper, Make me yours, Amen and even Ramseys Wade in the water were/are not exactly uptempo compared to alot tunes being played at the time.
  11. Read most of replys, me, a very new spinner, but play tunes I like n dance round living room to BUT I've not heard played at venues weve been to. Dislike modern, personally think its crap ( Mods IMHO). I've had an empty floor (BUT even so tunes have been acknowleged with a applause), I think if you play crap you'll get an empty floor, peeps do not need to know tunes to dance to them, if they are any good they'll dance. end of.
  12. Were a good night and that certainly does it justice Winnie, any chance can you post the last pictures up, you know the ones of the last people to leave , is 'redevelopment' a euphemism for demolishing the barn ?.
  13. Typical Gaurdianista crap !!!!!!. The rag is always publishing contentious articles......not read all the comments above BUT in 50 years on and off attending Northern, scratch that, and call it attending Soul venues, vinyl only and live shows by artists personally have never ever heard racist remarks directed at the minortiy groups also attending and enjoying their/our scene, what is Craig Charles's pedigree anyway, other than being a repoter for the Gaurdian?. Personally would'nt want my fish 'n chips served up in a page from the paper
  14. Brutes........probably
  15. Just revisited this thread, this and other posts have got me wetting me sen, were at last Life Lines and yeah some of the verbal...........

  17. Shure carts used to be the thing, do not know what u mean by a 'cell'?, unless you refer to a cartridge, I run a Rega RB300 arm with a Grado moving coil cartridge comes with stylus inc on an original Dunlop Systemdek. TD160 was original 'sprung suspension' remember buying one for £26 back in 1972, what do they go for now? a BLOODY lot I would think, expensive kit to play singles on, I'm a soul/rock fan (soul > to hippy > to soul) so I play a lot of heavy stuff, BUT Shure carts were always no.1 choice back in the day, pm me if you need more info re system/amps etc.
  18. BUT were'nt we all at the time, hard core nighter goers, but not very knowlegable music wise at the time, (other than tunes from Wilby/Kellmarsh/ Earls Barton) Cats, Torch, Mecca, Birds Nest , etc etc were event AND tunes yet to come, at least to me at the time .
  19. Was'nt what I meant, although rereading my post it does, DG quite innocently asked all B&S readers to tell him there favorite sounds, MY collection went a whole new direction when he started printing them in his column. What I meant was that a magazine had published details of sounds, entireley innocent of ulterior motive other than getting it across to a wider audiance, especiaslly the NS starved South of the UK, and the unscrupulous had a ready made data base of sounds that were on everybodies wish list at the time, and possibly factored it into their release policy.
  20. My apologys....TOTALLY unintentional typo/dyslexia moment, but more due to lack of zzzzzzzzzs over the weekend
  21. Legacy, you're right there, Soul Source bootlegs, the first mass produced bootlegs anyway, Dave Godin helped him by asking the masses to let him know their all time favourites, then publishing them in Blues & Soul....soon afterwards Selecta Disc in Nottingham started selling these 'Soul Source' imports' at 75p, personally had more or less a complete set, buggered if I know where they went but passed on after I obtained originals, the SS discs seem to be as collectable as the o/e discs these days . Just had a review of what others have said, yes it was general knowlege that the bloke was a grade A asshole, I heard stories, first time I've seen anything ion print to back up the hearsay though.
  22. THEY NEVER SOLD IT LAST TIME THEY PUT IT ON EBAY EITHER
  23. Forgot to mention Len doing Thorn, however I beg to differ, no one down south would consider the venues mentioned local, and, MORE TO THE POINT just as good as and probably better venues than any in a quote ''Northern Mill town'' unquote . (And I dont include Torch, Cats, Mecca, Steam Engine Va Va's, Mecca etc in Mill Town category)
  24. Just so happens I attend venues Len DJ's at and also promotes in and around Northampton, and while our musical tastes are opposite ends of the spectrum, I'm old school Northern and Uptempo modern, (deffo no fan of smoochie shite modern, sold Soul Carp a copy of Neo Experiance 'cause I did'nt like it) but Len has DJ'd at the 100 club several times, sure Ady will confirm, St.Ives All Nighters, Rugby All Nighter, Va VA Voom, The Pemberton and various others inc current venture Lenny's in Wellinbourgh so he does have some experience. In passing I've DJ'd for him on one occasion at the Pemberton, the first time I ever did it, DJ'd in public, not my living room played 4 tracks cleared the floor in seconds and gave it up as bad job, and the tracks were not obscurities either inc Pooking Hudson.
