So, to give a flavour of the night on September 2nd I'm gonna post up some records that remind me of the Casino but using their 'cover-up' names... feel free to post your choices. Starting with Don Varner

Cracking night at the Original Soul Promotions event at The Alhambra, Morecambe on Saturday. Busy from the off at 7pm right through till 3am. DJ’s in the main room kept the floor busy all night, with a great mix of music, 60’s and 70’s with a few 80’s thrown in for good measure, just like the original Morecambe nights, and the bigger, extended dancefloor worked a treat. I heard some great sounds in both room but gotta say the music in the back room was superb, with the DJ’s Dean Anderson, Carl Fortnum, Phil Dick, Simon Ingham and Roger Banks, who’s enthusiasm for the music still shines through in bucket loads, digging deep into their collections to air some cracking sounds, expanding my wants list just a little more For me, the night ticked all the boxes, great venue (actually a brilliant venue) good crowd, and hearing music I love, as well as a few ‘new to my ears’ tunes, makes it all worthwhile. Well done Shaun and Pete and the gang for all your hard work in putting these nights on

Thanks Pete, see you Saturday

Thanks Bob, yes that the idea of the night on Sept 2nd at Culcheth, to explore the heritage that the Casino has generated with some great records being played today and some still to have their day. I know you have championed some of those tracks in the past, today and hopefully in the future. One from the cover up list that I know you love to spin today is this from the Executive Four
-
One of the finest records ever to get played IMHO, never tire of hearing it and one i'll take great pleasure in playing on the 19th, hope to see you there
-
Or was it Lee Moore and the Resoursful Ones
-
Another for the main room on the 19th when James Mack and the Chicago Gangsters make a welocome return to Morecambe

Early years at the Casino carried the torch (pardon the pun) for the Northern scene, continuing where the clubs like the ‘Golden’ Torch and VaVa’s left off, but the later years at the Casino, for many, were when some of the records played on today’s rare and modern soul scene’s got their first airing. Take a look at this playlist from Richard Searling from 1980 and see how many you recognise…expect to hear sounds like this and many more at Culcheth on Sept 2nd

So, back at the Alhambra, Morecambe for the second instalment of this superb ‘Soul Promotions’ event. No one has been working harder than Shaun to make sure this next event on August 19th is a tremendous success, and I for one, know it will be. A great line up of original ‘Morecambe’ DJ’s together with a selection of well-known names and respected soul-spinners guarantee a great night out for anyone coming along. It’s not often a new venue comes along that’s REALLY this GOOD, a proper real deal Northern night! So, come on peeps, Let’s Be Avvin Ya!

Just wanted to take this opportunity to thank EVERYONE who came to CULCHETH on Saturday. The obvious concern was the F.A. Cup Final combining with perfect BBQ weather! But not to worry as the CULCHETH faithful turned out as well as some very much welcome first timers, who I genuinely hope enjoyed themselves. The music, the main reason for CULCHETH was great, Jordan Wilson , Kevin Murphy and Simon, ably assisted by our special guest Ted Massey , pulled out all the stops with a superb mix of rare, underplayed and floor–fillers thrown in for good measure, keeping the knowledgeable crowd very happy. The Modern Room buzzed to the latest new release vinyl selections from Pete Ratcliffe , early doors. Bill Wildman in full effect with some great 80’s steppers and rare grooves, Charlie Smith dropping his rarest of the rare 70’s and Mr Dependable, Steve Plumb as entertaining as always, especially when he dropped a total surprise and earworm over the past few days for me Lamont Dozier ‘You Ought To Be in Pictures’ Brilliant! If you like ‘Modern Soul’ you’ll love the across the board policy at CULCHETH I had chance to play in both rooms on Saturday, which was an absolute pleasure for me, I hope those who were there at the beginning and the end enjoyed it. Here’s my main room play list (in no particular order) and a few pics from the night, Thanks Angie Heap Wills x Culcheth Playlist June 2023 Barbara Jean Why Weren’t You There Fantastic Four Can’t Stop Looking For My Baby Vikki Styles The Tears Won’t Stop Falling Ike and Tina Turner Such a Fool For You Herb Ward Honest To Goodness Constellations I Didn’t Know How To Tony Middleton Spanish Maiden Barrett Strong I Better Run The Phonetics Pretty Girl Cal Green I’ll Give You Just a Little More Time The Montereys It Hurts Me So Much Cliff Nobles This Love Will Last CL and the Pictures Baby Not Now Larry Davis I’ve Been Hurt So Many Times Lee Bates Why Don’t You Write The Versatones Rollin’ Rollin’ Jesse Slaughter I Had a Dream Lee Shot Williams Love Now Pay later Johnny De’Vigne I Smell Trouble Jimmy Norman I’m Leaving Winfield Parker Mr Clean Joan Baker Everybody’s Talking Johnnie Mae Matthews My Destination Jackie Day Come On and Try Me The Artistics I’ll Come Running Ivy Joe Lonely Girl
