One of the favourites at the moment, so I'm pretty sure it'll be getting a spin at some point in the evening... Great tune!

By way, not only as an alternative to the main room, but as a 'destination' in its own right, there was always a second room at Lowton. In the early days, it started as an extension of the fledgling 'crossover' scene and featured more underplayed 45's, with long-time collector and DJ, Ian Cunliffe, Bill Harrison and fellow 'Orwellian' Ste Connor, starting the ball rolling. Over time and due to popular demand the back room developed into one of the best and busiest Modern rooms in the country. Join us on Saturday 5th Feb and enjoy memories of the Lowton modern room and the best in Modern Soul sounds with Soul Sam, Steve Plumb and Baz M Lowton Modern Room (Some Old 'Faces' on there ) and Culcheth Modern Room Pics

I dont think Rob Haigh wil mind me 'nicking' his Social Media revue of last nights proceedings but just about sums it up IMHO...Thanks Rob Great night again!, its enforced absense from the calendar, like everything else over this past/almost two years, hasnt dulled the senses...so much so, id say its on everyone's to do list next year as well...expect tickets to fly out once on sale. The timing couldnt have been better either, in between two snow storms, the latter of which is occuring just now...back home safely thankyou!. So many familiar faces, all enjoying and soaking up the atmosphere, there were more djs watching, socializing, drinking and dancing than the lads who actually played! a sure sign this is a seriously premier event. Such a refreshing change from the norm, hearing tunes that arent instantly recognizable..or total unknowns anyway...In abundance for sure and culminating in the yearly sermon from the master of rare soul, Butch....2 hours on another planet or cloud, or higher plain. And top drawer crossover contributions from the guys who put it all together, Steve Plumb , Steve Connor, Brian Flanny Flanders and Tsop Manchester Baz Maleedy.....and a cracking sound system too!. Pardon the pun: By George.....the Orwell does it again! -

Hi Stuart, if you e mail info@soulmusic.co.uk or PM Steve Plumb either on here or Facebook, he will let you know the score, as of yesterday there was 9 tickets available, so I'm guessing there's probably a couple available...hope that helps -

DJ BUTCH at Haydock Park UPDATE Please be aware that the ticket allocation for the ‘Spirit of the Orwell’ event at the luxurious Haydock Park Golf Club has now SOLD. We ask that if you have made a verbal request to reserve tickets that you confirm verbal reservations with Steve Plumb or Baz Maleedy through normal channels, as these last tickets are now in-demand and due to managing the numbers to maintain a degree of COVID safety, it is likely admission will be by ticket only. -
Just wanted to say thank you to all the people who have passed on very positive comments about the decision to pull Culcheth on Saturday. It was not a decision that was taken lightly especially as there was a fantastic 'buzz' on the event but the health of the people involved on both sides of the decks must come first. The venue have been incredibly supportive and we will be announcing future dates as soon as the current climate of infections has passed and things are looking more safe and certain. Best to all, be careful out there

CULCHETH OKTOBER SOUL FEST CANCELLED After a succession of recent set-backs relating to COVID cases among DJ’s and customers directly involved in this event and after a great deal of consideration for the safety and well-being of all, it has been decided to cancel the event planned for this SATURDAY 30th OCTOBER. Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience this may cause and be assured, it is our intention to bring Culcheth Soul Nights back when the time is right.

Here's a post from the Golden Torch group on Facebook this week... Colin Curtis recently wrote... I was 16 years old it was 1968. My friend had pestered me to go to this club as they played the music I liked. I went alone as he was not available it was a wet wednesday night I was wearing a yellow jacket purple flared trousers and brown suede shoes ( Yes I was dedicated follower of fashion NOT ) . I went on the bus and then walked towards the club passed the busy chip shop and around the corner. THe throbbing of the muscal beat hit me straight away, i was soaked but didn't care the musical beat drew me in. I paid got a few funny looks and went to the downstairs bar, it wasnt busy but I didn't care. Chubby Checker Cum A La Be Stay, Flavor Sally Had A Party , Mitch Ryder Break Out , Billy Preston Billys Bag , Wynder K Frog Green Door, Sly & The Family Stone Dance To The Music , Homer Banks 60 Minutes Of Your Love , Charlie Rich Love Is After Me ,Bobby Wells Let's Copp A Groove , Arthur Conley Funky Street , Bill Cosby Little Ole Man etc I had entered the inside of my head ! I was already doing Soul nights at the local Mecca and Mobile gigs locally but this was different this was underground it was hidden it was dark. I got home to a roasting and grounding from my parents as I was late in with school the next day ! This didn't deter me I climbed out of the bedroom window to return the following night and walked the three and a half miles back to the club more appropriately dressed and I I turned in to Hose Street it was silent, I hadn't checked but soon realised that it was closed on a Thursday But I didn't care my friend Keith Minshull was right this place was special and it became even more so ! I had found my Soul Heaven !! It Was The Golden Torch !! Tunstall Stoke On Trent !!! What happened from then until 1973 is history now thanks to Keith Minshull & Chris Burton !! Join Colin as we pay homage to the sounds of The Torch on Saturday October 30th just a short trip up the M6 at the brilliant venue Culcheth Sports Club
