Start as we mean to go on, long time no play time, sounding sooo good in the main room...

And so to the ‘Serious Business’ of following the great night we had celebrating what would have been the LOWTON 25th ANNIVERSARY at CULCHETH SPORTS CLUB. For those who couldn’t make it, it was as close as we could get to a lock-out, with both rooms bouncing from the get-go until 2am. Great music in both the main room and the Modern Room, with all the DJ’s digging deep to entertain the expectant crowd, playing tunes from those great nights at Lowton Civic Hall, alongside some of today’s floor fillers and a nice selection of underplayed selections thrown in for good measure. SATURDAY MARCH 5th sees the return of the two room, RARE and MODERN SOUL NIGHTS at CULCHETH, now MONTHLY on the FIRST SATURDAY OF THE MONTH for 2022. And to celebrate, we bring together the ‘Old Firm’ team of BOB HINSLEY and ROBBO. Going back to the mid 80’s BOB and ROBBO where setting the standards at venues like THE RITZ MANCHESTER, KEELE ALL-NIGHTERS, as well as BRETBY, WINSFORD, WILTON BALLROOM and of course BURY TOWN HALL, with a real love of the scene and music, their enthusiasm shines through, making their sets something to look forward to anytime they spin. Joining BOB and ROBBO is one of the most popular DJ’s on the scene at the moment and CULCHETH resident JORDAN WILSON together with fellow residents North Manchester’s MICK HOWARD and South Manchester’s SIMON INGHAM, who between them have a fantastic selection of TOP QUALITY SOUL SOUNDS. Add to that, Warrington’s own KEV McCUE bringing his impeccable taste to the proceedings and you have the makings of a great night. One of the best parts of the ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL was the MODERN ROOM, hot and sweaty, as peeps danced to a fantastic selection of MODERN SOUL tunes from four decades. BAZ MALEEDY is joined by So Soulful 70’s ‘Main Man’ STEVE PLUMB, as well as SPECIAL GUEST from North West Modern Soul nights at CASSINELLIS, NEWTON CRICKET CLUB and more recently VYBE, BILL WILDMAN digging in the crates to bring a TOP selection of 80’s dance floor favourites, add to that PETE RATCLIFFE’s new release showcase and you have an unrivalled MONTHLY MODERN ROOM… Back Together Again for 2022!

Finally tracked the elusive Jordan Wilson down between his gallivanting around the country and got him to scribble down some of his current spins. As he's become known for featuring the old and the new, I was particularly please to see this wonderful, late Lowton featured spin in there...

By way, not only as an alternative to the main room, but as a 'destination' in its own right, there was always a second room at Lowton. In the early days, it started as an extension of the fledgling 'crossover' scene and featured more underplayed 45's, with long-time collector and DJ, Ian Cunliffe, Bill Harrison and fellow 'Orwellian' Ste Connor, starting the ball rolling. Over time and due to popular demand the back room developed into one of the best and busiest Modern rooms in the country. Join us on Saturday 5th Feb and enjoy memories of the Lowton modern room and the best in Modern Soul sounds with Soul Sam, Steve Plumb and Baz M Lowton Modern Room (Some Old 'Faces' on there ) and Culcheth Modern Room Pics

I dont think Rob Haigh wil mind me 'nicking' his Social Media revue of last nights proceedings but just about sums it up IMHO...Thanks Rob Great night again!, its enforced absense from the calendar, like everything else over this past/almost two years, hasnt dulled the senses...so much so, id say its on everyone's to do list next year as well...expect tickets to fly out once on sale. The timing couldnt have been better either, in between two snow storms, the latter of which is occuring just now...back home safely thankyou!. So many familiar faces, all enjoying and soaking up the atmosphere, there were more djs watching, socializing, drinking and dancing than the lads who actually played! a sure sign this is a seriously premier event. Such a refreshing change from the norm, hearing tunes that arent instantly recognizable..or total unknowns anyway...In abundance for sure and culminating in the yearly sermon from the master of rare soul, Butch....2 hours on another planet or cloud, or higher plain. And top drawer crossover contributions from the guys who put it all together, Steve Plumb , Steve Connor, Brian Flanny Flanders and Tsop Manchester Baz Maleedy.....and a cracking sound system too!. Pardon the pun: By George.....the Orwell does it again! -

Hi Stuart, if you e mail info@soulmusic.co.uk or PM Steve Plumb either on here or Facebook, he will let you know the score, as of yesterday there was 9 tickets available, so I'm guessing there's probably a couple available...hope that helps -

DJ BUTCH at Haydock Park UPDATE Please be aware that the ticket allocation for the ‘Spirit of the Orwell’ event at the luxurious Haydock Park Golf Club has now SOLD. We ask that if you have made a verbal request to reserve tickets that you confirm verbal reservations with Steve Plumb or Baz Maleedy through normal channels, as these last tickets are now in-demand and due to managing the numbers to maintain a degree of COVID safety, it is likely admission will be by ticket only. -
Just wanted to say thank you to all the people who have passed on very positive comments about the decision to pull Culcheth on Saturday. It was not a decision that was taken lightly especially as there was a fantastic 'buzz' on the event but the health of the people involved on both sides of the decks must come first. The venue have been incredibly supportive and we will be announcing future dates as soon as the current climate of infections has passed and things are looking more safe and certain. Best to all, be careful out there
