  1. PM'd you re Joe Tex.
  2. With you on that - tooooo much on drugs and no scans of record labels. Last book I bought also. Well written and no typos if I recall. But for a drug-free soul-addict, dance-freak, vinyl-fiend like myself, just too much on pill-popping.
  3. What book was that Phil? Last couple I got were two of the best although Tim Brown's had a few spelling mistakes. Why can't Northern Soul book publishers edit out these annoying errors?
  4. Demo on eBay at present. Good luck.
  5. Thanks for the heads up - ordered it straight away. Remember him well from Wigan. Third in the First Anniversary Dance Competition. In Wigan's Chosen Few on Top of The Pops. All-round cool guy, slick-dresser, brilliant dancer... Really looking forward to reading the book.
  6. Seven good 70's sounds, mainly in mint minus condition, some in company sleeves. PM to reserve please. Payment via PayPal (f&f). Price includes free postage to UK address. Thanks for looking. 8. Right On Tricky. It's unprincipled to end an auction before time. Probably unprincipled to ask the auctioneer to end the auction early. Would be better for all to have a highest 'Buy It Now' price to avoid sharp practice but then we would never have any bargains.
  9. Hi Martyn. Each to his own. Great tune whether on the dancefloor or in the living room. Not all soul records are equally great so there's a time and place for listening to whatever suits. When I was at Tufnell Park over a year back at the Keb Darge charity do, it got me onto the floor pretty quickly. After that it went onto the wants list. I bid very high on the copy in Japan but was narrowly beaten: the auction winner failed to pay and was sent notification that the record was up for sale again. By now though, I'd blown the dosh on a People's Choice on Palmer plus a few other items... still feel pretty sick about this...
  10. Another copy on eBay at present in lesser condition but surely won't fetch half the price. Must dig mine out sometime to see if it is an issue or a demo.
  11. Hey, Special Limited Edition bootlegs now that's classy. Just like Dinky toys, artists' prints, Princess Diana plates etc they are trophies for poor, simple fools chuffed to bits they had a bargain. Tell buyers they are in very limited supply and they will pay double. Better to go without.
  12. Completely blown away. Not seen one for sale for ages and has been noted on several wants lists in recent times. Great record and one that has become very hard to obtain. Prices for classic oldies at present are going through the roof despite the poor exchange rate.
  13. No, sensible spending on a really good, very scarce record. As an early unknown sound a decade ago, £250 was a real bargain. Today, with demand greatly exceeding supply, whatever it takes to secure a copy is a wise outlay.
  14. £500 if you are lucky enough to find one. A recent one auctioned for $850 plus, went unclaimed, then sold again for a bit less.
  15. Nice tune. Nice price. Issues are pretty common but the DJ copy is seldom seen and evidently in very safe pairs of hands.
  16. Went past it today on the train. Looks like it's being demolished and converted to flats. My brother worked there in the 1980's and got me the Motown Hits albums 1-10, several of which were on coloured vinyl.
  17. Not seen this variation before. Got the red issue, a DJ copy and one, possibly two, white demos but not the one shown. Great track but never heard it played out as it's a very tricky tempo to dance to.
  18. OK, it sold for c7.5K, but the commission at 20% nets John almost £1,500. Will the seller be content with c6K? More to the point, what would the value in the next Price Guide go down as?
  19. Hi Nigel. You won't sell many records with that sales pitch. Maybe go on The Apprentice show to pick up a few tips...
  20. Ultimately, it is just another dance-craze record. Whereas a song like The Duck was recognised early on as a decent dance record, for US party goers and subsequently Northern followers, this offering by Don was overlooked by the pioneers as it lacked the classic ingredients. Nowadays, with a broader spectrum of acceptable sounds to meet the variety of tastes, Boogaloo fits into the category of poppy RnB that crosses over to all sorts of dancers.
  21. Hey Dude. Whet our appetites with a list. We like scans and MUST know the conditions of all discs. Many of us will have much of what you have to offer so there's no point in buying stuff we already own. Your best bet is to approach a major dealer like Manny, Pat, Tim, Darren et al and unload as a consignment. Alternatively, sell on here in small lots and build up interest. Most importantly, keep references to pressings out of the way when marketing originals as this causes confusion. Hope this helps.
  22. Not really spun big-time until Dave plugged it. Was just a tape-swapper's track prior to the RnB wave, widely known but not aired. Only seen styrene copies. Have sold a few mint unplayed copies out of Skippy White's Cambridge basement but most copies in circulation have been well played judging from the labels. Seems to crop up more in Chicago where residents evidently cared marginally better for their records than in Detroit but who wants VG-- anyway?
  23. Is it a mistake or an accurate update? Me, I'd rush out and buy anything with Popcorn Wylie's name on it.
  24. Not totally sure re this but Lana looks like a budget reissue label, maybe for the hits at the time. Curious to know as there are a variety of artists on the Lana label.
  25. I had just the one in the recent trickle. Whoever found the stash let them out subtly and sensibly - I was aware of a couple of others at auction but oblivious to a large find. So are we to believe that there were four 25 count boxes in a 100 count carton... At no time did it look like there were this number of mint records coming to market, but if deals for 5-6 copies were being done, that's hardly surprising. What were the sales prices in the bulk-buy deals fellas? Fantastic record by the way and still very hard to come by even now.
